Celebaby: Health Fears For Heaton

16 August 2012

On the whole, I'm one of those (annoyingly) positive people who believe they can do anything, that challenges are FUN and simply serve to make us stronger bla bla bla.

That said, I can, on the odd occasion, wallow around in a bit of 'woe is me' and then I read or hear about someone who's facing 'stuff' really worth worrying about.

I'm not in one of those rare 'woe is me' moments, but reading about Michelle Heaton lately, the potential health problems she's facing along with some stark choices to make, have me in a philosophical mood.

She was admitted to hospital a few days ago with a heart scare; she was kept in, bloods were taken and tested and she's been fitted with a little gizmo that's going to record and measure her heart activity for the next three years.

On top of that, she's also been told she has the BRCA2 gene - this means she has an 80% of developing breast or ovarian cancer, ON TOP of the one-in-three risk that the rest of us already have!

That's scary stuff and she's seriously having to consider having a double mastectomy, along with having her ovaries removed, to reduce her risk.

Her daughter, Faith, is seven months old now and Michelle has spoken candidly about her fears for her...

"I'm afraid of leaving my child motherless. That's my biggest fear. I might pass away and I won't see my baby grow up. She might not have a mum around."

I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to face that sort of threat to your mortality, even more so when there are children to consider, regardless of how old or young they are.

I'm going to give the last word of today's Celebaby to Michelle...

"Being in hospital makes u realise life is too short...cherish your loved ones and make sure the life you lead is the life YOU want to lead."
