Halloween is Saturday, and every year I do the same thing of deciding the house looks fine and then wishing I'd decorated more! Matalan have 50% off lots of items in their Halloween shop at the moment, and the reductions are already off the prices.
The costumes are the reason to look now rather than in a fortnight. The girls' black cat dress up is here for £7.50*, down from £15, and it's a sweatshirt-style top with a layered mesh skirt rather than a scratchy nylon outfit, so it survives a party and a disco. The boys' pumpkin hoodie is here for £8*, down from £16, and that one gets worn to school on the Friday and then again all winter, so it's the better buy of the two.
For the bedroom, the purple ghost duvet set is here for £7.50*, down from £15, with little purple ghosts with pink bows and a reversible design, so it's two looks in one. The grey monster print duvet set is here from £6*, down from £12, and that's the single, with the double at £7.50 down from £15.
The living room is where the cheap bits do the work. The grey monsters throw is here for £3.50*, down from £7, and it's soft enough to be the blanket that lives on the sofa all autumn. The cream and lilac ghost cushion is here for £4*, down from £8, and the pom pom ghost bunting is here for £2.25*, down from £4.50, which is the cheapest way to make a room look like you've made an effort. The lilac ghost mug is here for £3*, down from £6, and it's ceramic rather than novelty plastic, so it'll go through the dishwasher.
If you've got children to keep busy over half term, the paint your own haunted house is here for £3*, down from £6, and it comes with the paints and a brush included, which is the bit that makes it worth having. There are paint your own ghost canvases, monster paint books and a monster countdown at the same sort of money, all £2 to £3 each.
Five pounds spent on the bunting, the mug and the throw is enough to make the house look like somebody tried, and that's about my limit for a Saturday!
Standard delivery is £3.99, or free on orders over £49.99, and click and collect is 99p, or free over £19.99. A basket this small is under £20, so it's worth checking whether you're near a store.
