Dr Seuss is a bit of a Marmite author for parents: you either love him or hate him.
I'm a Dr Seuss fan and always had such fun reading Green Eggs and Ham, Are You My Mother? and The Cat In The Hat to my children; my cousin, on the other hand, would rather have poked forks in her eyes than read a Dr Seuss story to her children (they were so deprived!).
(Are You My Mother? is the story of a little bird who hatches whilst his mother is away from the nest; he goes off to look for her but has no clue what she looks like, so he asks all sorts of everyone, and everything - including a big red steam shovel, whether or not they're his mother; it's a brilliant story - if you can get hold of a copy these days, then DO)
