Meccano: Build And Play Sidecar £6.49 @ Play
Every time I see the name meccano, I'm taken back about 30 years to my days at infants school (as it was called then - none of this reception, year one, year two stuff). There were plastic drawers full of meccano and that is where I'd beeline for when it was time to choose an afternoon activity, no rushing off to the wendyhouse to get custody of the doll in the pushchair for me!
Meccano back in the day was metal and the Health and Safety Exec' would probably have 40 fits if we let young kids loose with it today, but they needn't worry because these days the meccano for little hands is made of safe, soft plastic (well when I say soft plastic you know what I mean! And I couldn't resist posting this amusing piece of meccano advertising from way back-in-the-day....as if!).
My youngest would love to have this Build and Play sidecar as part of his collection - there are 74 separate parts inside the box (the trick is knowing where all 74 parts are for more than a week after you've bought it), you can build a sidecar, motorbike and a helicopter out of them (three toys for the price of one then I suppose) and it comes with all the tools you need to assemble them and will definitely teach little fingers the art of fine motor control.
Play have reduced this from £12.99 to £6.49 and because they're rather fabulous, delivery within the UK is free. This would make a great little filler pressie or a 'just-because' gift and will provide hours and hours of fun for your little mechanic.
