FREE 'The Highway Rat' Activity Trails & Forest Feasts

If you have been on The Gruffalo Trail or the Stick Man Trail before with the kids then we have great news for you - this year you can take part in The Highway Rat Trail, and it's free!

Like previous years this is a free event being held by The Forestry Commission in various forest locations around England. Click the link above and you can find your nearest location, where you can join the Highway Rat on his forest adventure, completing fun activities and spotting characters from the story as you go.

You follow the trail and search for 10 Highway Rat-themed panels, each with fun facts and activities to try. As you go, look out for characters from the story, complete four rubbings, and you could even snap your picture with a life-sized Highway Rat ‘Wanted’ poster!

If you want even more fun there are Highway Rat Activity Packs on sale in the visitor centres at each location, at a price of £3. They include stickers, puzzles, and activities to keep the kids entertained.

You can also download free Highway Rat activity and colouring sheets to use at home as well.

If you want even more adventure there are also new Highway Rat Forest Feast events being held this summer too! Either download the free activity pack and picnic templates and make your own Forest Feast, or head to an organised event where you could learn fencing from the experts! You'll need to book online for the fencing, and you can do that here.

All these events are run by the Forestry Commission England, so they're not in the rest of the UK, but you can find events held by Forestry Commission Scotland here.

The Highway Rat Activity Trail looks like tons of fun for families, so get yourself to the forest (and watch out for that naughty rat...)
