Anyone For A Napercise Class?

Anyone For A Napercise Class?

Every now and then, a news story comes along which goes straight to the top spot on my list of my all-time favourite parenting tales. I just got a new number one.

According to various newspaper reports, you can now take a gym class in napping.

Metro reports:

Parents basically sign away their right to a lie in until their children reach high school.

Which is why one gym is offering knackered mums and dads the chance to sleep in a room with a load of other zombified parents for 45 minutes.

David Lloyd Clubs have just set up Napercise.

Yes, a gym is offering beleaguered, sleep-deprived mums and dads the chance to rest their eyes in between working their abs.

The class lasts for an hour and involves 45 minutes of napping between brief periods of stretching at the beginning and end. You even get armed with the essential kit for Napercise – a bed, a blanket and an eye mask.

The Telegraph reports:

Starting and finishing with a series of tension-releasing stretches, the aim of the wellbeing class is to help reduce stress levels. Impressively, you could even burn a few calories too, as the studio will be set to the optimal temperature.

Love.It.

The gym's website states:

The frantic nature of modern life means that few of us seem to get enough sleep, and if you're a parent, a good night's rest becomes even more of a luxury. So we're created a new group class - group napping classes for exhausted mums and dads to help boost their mental and physical wellbeing.

Our mid-afternoon studio sleep sessions is 45-minutes long and is designed to reinvigorate the mind, the body and even burn the odd calorie.

What a genius way to grab column inches – and a whole raft of new gym devotees. I can certainly think of a fair few mums who would become overnight gym bunnies if this were on offer.

But what do you make of the story? Would you be signing up for Napercise if you had the chance? Or do you resent the thought of paying cold, hard cash to nap anywhere but in the comfort of your nice, warm bed?
