Octopus Energy are giving free electric blankets to the customers who need them most, and they’ve handed out more than 110,000 of them so far.
You have to be an Octopus customer, and it isn’t offered to everyone. They’re prioritising people with specific vulnerabilities and medical needs — so mobility problems, spending a lot of time sitting in one place, or a condition that means you feel the cold more or pick up illnesses easily. It’s one blanket per household.
The way in is to apply to Octo Assist, their £40 million customer help fund. You fill in their financial assistance tool, they assess what would help you most, and a blanket is one of the things they might offer. It could also be a grant or having your standing charges waived over the winter, so it’s worth doing even if a blanket isn’t what you come away with.
