Clinton's Valentine Range Review
If there's one shop that really stands out on the high street at this time of the year, it is Clintons. The very open store fronts that all their shops have virtually pulsate with pink around Valentine's Day. It's probably the first place you think of to buy a card or pick up a little sappy trinket for a loved one.
So when Clintons asked us if I'd like to see a little bit of the new additions to their Valentine's Day range I said heck yes! Read on to see what they sent us, and more importantly, what I thought.
This is big. Much bigger than I was expecting. The Confetti Hearts Giant Plush Rose (£19.99) is described on the website as measuring 90 x 50 x 50cm. But I'm useless with measurements and frankly that means nothing to me. Let's just say it makes a sizeable centrepiece in the middle of my dining room table.
I didn't really know what to expect as there's only a photo on the website, and very little in the way of description. The rose is made of material, and as the name suggests, it is plush - the petals are quite plump indeed.
What is unusual is that it has a sort of stand. This is also covered in the same plush material (but in green - it is the stalk) and is posable. There's a strong wire in there of some kind, and you can move it about. So you can have the rose standing as part of a display, or attached to something. Or you could probably even wear it. My son it convinced it is a costume. I think it would make a rather over sized corsage.
The stand sort of tilts the rose on one side, and you know what, surprisingly it looks really good. It would make a lovely decoration for the few days around this time of the year.
It was a big hit with the kids though. My friend's daughter fell in love with the rose, and had her dolls playing around it. My son made it into part of the dinosaur landscape he has set up.
And now for something really sweet and just simply lovely. The Me to You Wooden Plaque Love You (£2.99) is pretty much just that. A heart shaped plaque, that you can hang using the red ribbon that's attached to the top of the heart. On the front there's a lovely detail of roses around the edge, and the little Me to You bear shyly holding out a heart. It is inscribed with the words 'Love You'.
This is a fairly unisex gift, as far as these things can go. The plaque is more red than pink, for example.
It is just the right size to hold. And that's about it. There's also another Me to You wooden plaque on the site, this one is inscribed with 'Gorgeous'.
And Finally ...
The Confetti Hearts Giant Plush Rose isn't something I would pick out for myself but I'd prefer to get this than a bouquet of real roses. I do think it is expensive for what you get though, and I'd like to see a little bit more on the website to give an idea of how it might be best used. However, I certainly wouldn't be objecting if it arrived on one arm with a box of chocolates on the other!
Overall verdict: 6/10
The Me to You Wooden Plaque Love You is something I'd buy. The price is good for what you get, and frankly it is just the sort of soppy romantic thing my husband goes in for. I'd have preferred it if there was somewhere to write on the back though.
Overall verdict: 9/10
