Mama Or Dada: Which Word Was First?

Mama Or Dada: Which Word Was First?

Did you compete with your other half over whether your baby's first word would be 'Mama' or 'Dada'?!

It seems Kim and Kanye did when it comes to baby Saint West's first word. Kim told People magazine:

"He said 'Dada' today, three times and I was like: 'What?' Kanye was so excited. He was like 'I told him to say that. I was like, 'I just really wanted him to say Momma first'."

Now in general I try not to dwell on the West / Kardashian clan when it comes to parenting stories but this did make me smile because I remember pretending to jostle with my husband over whether our babies would say 'Mama' or 'Dada' first - and even which of us they'd take their first steps towards.

It's all good-natured silliness, of course. In truth my heart probably melted more when I watched my babies ask for their Dada than it did when they uttered my 'name' - but nonetheless nothing quite beats the buzz of hearing your baby utter their all-important first words, does it?

As I recall, my firstborn's first word turned out to be 'BOGGIES' anyway - uttered when we got locked out of the in-laws' house and the dogs inside started barking like crazy with happiness over our arrival.

So yeah, both 'Mama' and 'Dada' took a backseat in the end over the family pets. I tried not to take it personally.

So what what was your baby's first word, and did you vie with your other half to get your baby to say your 'name' first?! Or did your other half resort to dirty tricks - Kanye-style - like urging your little one to say 'Dada' while your back was turned?

We'd love to hear your stories of competing to be the focus of your baby's first words - leave us a comment below or join the conversation over on our Facebook page... and tell us all about which of you 'won'.
