Some six years on and I'm still head over heels in love with the Gro-Egg room thermometer! I can't tell you what it is about them that draws me to them, but when I was pregnant with my beloved youngest son and saw them, I knew I had to have one.
I like to be warm at the very least; if I can feel hot then so much the better! Give me HOT sunny beaches, give me HOT southern hemisphere summers, give me HOT rooms - I just don't do 'cold'.
Because of this I'm not really the best judge of appropriate room temperature for babies - what I think is chilly usually turns out to be okay; with overheating being a known risk factor in cot deaths, I am more than happy not to use my own judgement for once.
Yes you can get those cheapo colour-changing temperature sensitive strips in a little cardboard frame to tell you how warm or not a room is, but I've had those too and they're boring! These Gro-Egg room thermometers are much more awesome and will tell you at a glance what the ambient temperature is, in whichever room you place it in, by changing colour.
It really doesn't take a genius to figure out what it's telling you, but for the sake of clarity: BLUE is too cold, YELLOW is ideal, ORANGE is a bit warm and RED is TOO HOT!
It also displays the actual temperature too and because it's illuminated you don't need to turn the light on to read what it says, I also found it doubled-up nicely as a gentle night light too.
