these machines are a sanity saver if you bottle feed xx

      • Caroline M.

These will definitely be on the list ! Xx

      • Lorna J.

Iv got one of these and they are great xxx

        • Natalie W.

Highly recommend these I would have been lost without mine makes night feeds so much easier only gutted they were not around when I had my first two children

          • Eve P.

I had one of these but i actually find making milk and storing in fridge even easier and cheaper .

            • Julie G.

Yep agreed!i bought one of these too but like making them up in advance

              • Kate T.

                Me too!

                • Lisa K.

Me too :-) thank god everyone in the world hasnt forgotten how to make a bottle. I dont see how these machines are 100% safe your supposed to used cooled boiled water for bottles, this machine does not boil water at all. I make up 24 hrs of bottles at once (just with water) store them in a fridge and just add the milk and heat when needed. Much easier and less faffing than paying all that money out on machine you dont need. And before people jump on my back about how your not supposed to store them in the fridge, its alot healther that making bottles up with non boiled water, not only do I kill all bad bacteria in the water by boiling it, the bottles cant grow bacteria in the fridge because its too cold.

                • Kim F.

Love the colours and I loved my machine when I had it for my daughter. Although I've recently found out that they are not recommended and not safe.

                  • Danielle B.

Eeeh are they not recommended? Im currently using one for my little one xx

                    • Lindsay M.

Danielle Boak they are perfectly safe as long as used as instructed

                      • Toni W.

Supposedly not recommended because of the water temperature. When you use boiling water it kills off any lingering bacteria, whereas this machine doesn't use boiling water x

                        • Rachel S.

Watch the latest watchdog programme on them. More bacteria than using straight tap water :(

                          • Carly T.

But it does a hot shot of boiling water first to do this

                            • Gemma R.

It's the time between the 70 degree shot and the cold water that is the risk. I had one brand new and sold it for less than I paid, the research report is solid reason enough for me not to use one

                              • Jo C.

Only if using unlicensed filters. Watchdog would not provide tommee tippee with any findings either.

                                • Cheryl H.

Well my daughter is 13 months and I used it for her from birth and she is fine! Just use pre boiled kettle water to fill it and it's fine

                                  • Helen M.

Watchdog used Tommee tippee's filters. The problem was that an unsafe level of bacteria built up in the filter after the 3rd use. So bacteria from the formula is killed, but bacteria from the top up cold tap water isn't.

Makes you wonder just how children in third world countries in this day, and pre sterilisation in first world survived, with this heavily contaminated water we all drink....and has it ever been researched exactly how many children have died using this machine? ...just asking!

                                      • Tammy-jo H.

In Spain they don't sterilise at all. I used this machine n it's fab. N I had very prem baby. N he was fine. X

                                          Danielle Boak

                                          No they aren't recommended:

Department of Health guidance on formula feeding does not cover the use of formula making machines, however in some areas, for example Cambridgeshire Community NHS Trust and Lanarkshire NHS staff have been advised that these machines should not be recommended or promoted by staff since there is insufficient data available about their safety. Cambridgeshire Community NHS Trust state that:

"Due to the inability to have confidence in all of these machines to correctly prepare a bottle safely, staff must not recommend these and discuss with parents their danger."(Cambridge Community Services NHS Trust, 2014)

First Steps Nutrition Trust therefore believes that there remains insufficient evidence that these machines are safe in the preparation of powdered infant formula, and recommend that families and carers use cooled, boiled water at >70oC to make up powdered infant formula as currently recommended by the Department of Health.

                                          • Kim F.

I used one with my daughter before I read this and had no problem that I know of. Would I use it again? Probably not, even though she was fine (hate when people say that, 'my kid was fine so it's okay')

I guess it's up to the parent to do what they feel is right. When my eldest was born I'd make the bottles up (with the powder in) and leave them in the fridge, then heat them up when needed:see_no_evil:. Again he was fine, but at the time I thought what I was doing was right.

Honestly I still use it for Nya, total life saver lol aye it's a brill price :raised_hands_tone2::raised_hands_tone2: Defo worth it! :kissing_heart:

                                                    • Helen M.

I'm Suprised these are still being sold after they were on Watchdog

                                                      • Becky W.

                                                        My thoughts exactly!

                                                        • Paul D.

What were they on Watchdog for?

                                                          • Helen M.

The filter needs to be changed every 3 uses or it adds more bacteria than tap water alone making it unsafe.

                                                            • Karen H.

It was awful, I don't use them as my babies are bf but if they weren't then I probably would have brought one but I was horrified that they are still being allowed to sell them after the results on watchdog

                                                              • Leah K.

Oh wow, I didn't know about this, due April and have one incase I can't BF, oh dear, second thoughts now x

                                                                • Kara S.

The machines tell you that the filter needs to be changed every 3 months a warning light comes up to warn you anyway! So it's not like ur gonna harm your child ignore it! I found this a absolute dream! Well easy no messing cooling warming water for 20mins.

                                                                  • Clair D.

I've used mine with George since he was 3 months old, as long as you run a clean cycle once a week and change the filter when it says it's fine, I use it up up stairs, it makes things easier. Im sure they would have had to remove them from sale by now if they weren't safe, it's all down to common sense! Hope your doing ok? Xxx

                                                                    • Sarah P.

I agree with Kara girls he from breast to bottle with my little one and I use this machine all the time now best thing over ever bought makes life so much easier!!

                                                                      • Sarah A.

Great machine! u just buy new filters don't panic. Light comes on when need a new one. They are a god send! Charlotte is fine. I have lots of friends who use these and there children are fine! That's the problem with watchdog they like to scare people. As u can see from the majority of people who have commented they use these and there children are fine! People who haven't used these and have no intention of using then are too quick to comment. During the night feeds these are brilliant! Unless u have time to wait 30 mins for your kettle to cool down. If u want to and can breathe feed then great go for it! But not everyone can or chooses too. U have this as a back up option x

                                                                        • Sarah A.

                                                                          Breastfeed not breathe lol

                                                                          • Helen M.

It's not a suggestion or an opinion though. They were tested by a scientist in a lab using several of these machines. They were all found to have an unsafe level of bacteria after the third use. Babies have around 6 bottles a day so you would have to change the filter twice daily to remain within the safe limit.

                                                                            • Leah K.

6 months pregnant......not fair to bring me into a debate like this :joy: warning, there MAY be tears ha xx

                                                                              • Sarah A.

U do what's right for u leah as I said Charlotte is 11 weeks and absolutely fine and lots of women use it

                                                                                • Debbie P.

I have one and my wee biy is now 9 mths it has been the best thing ever , you do a clean cucle once a week and change filter every 3 mths there is a warning light that comes on to tell you

                                                                                  • Cecilia F.

My baby's not been ill since I stopped using the machine a month ago, worst thing I brought. My older two had boiled kettle water and were never sick, was not surprised the watchdog report was bad for the machines

                                                                                    • Karen H.

it was full of bacteria after just 3 uses not 3 months of use, I wouldn't like to imagine what it was like after that long

                                                                                      • Emma K.

Also, don't actually kill bacteria with their "hot shot" of water :/

                                                                                        • Claire C.

Used one for my son who is 2 tomorrow. Happily, he did not become ill or die from drinking formula made with it!! I would use one again if need be!!

                                                                                          • Nikki M.

The watchdog program was a load of crap.. their scientists injected "huge amounts of bacteria into the filter" when on earth will your water have "huge amounts" of bacteria in it ! Considering it took 3 uses for that huge amount of bacteria to actually come through the filter was a positive sign for me, and when Tommie tippee replied and gave a statement the watchdog team wouldn't supply them with the reports from their so called scientists.. and wouldn't comment on what Tommie tippee had actually said! The first time I've watched that programme and thought what a load of bollocks and a waste of my time, haven't watched it since. This was just a sad attempt of scaremongering emotional, vulnerable women who have started a family and opted into using this machine. I've bought one myself for our first baby due in April

                                                                                            • Charlotte F.

The conclusion from that programme was that the levels of bacteria (although high) were unlikely to cause harm to healthy babies... x

                                                                                              • Hayley P.

I have one. Never had any problems. My daughter has never been ill. You just change the filter when it says . Wouldn't be without it

                                                                                                • Chris C.

Wonder how watchdog get away with flawed science to scaremonger??! It verging on outright lies.

Water harvested and incubated contains more bacteria than tapwater? well how about incubating the tap water in the same warm incubater first to make it a fair test (year7 science). And also considering tap water has chlorine and flourides added to kill stuff. And with millions spent by water companies i hope its not containing much!!

As for adding huge amounts of bacteria to a filter then claiming a few uses later traces show up? Its the equivelant of leaving a chicken to fester for three weeks then claiming cooking didnt make it safe to eat?!

Finally, watchdog wouldnt provide any lab data to tommee tippee... Wonder why. Quantifiable data maybe?!! Or lack there off?!

My baby is 5 months and isn't sick at all used this since day 5. No issues changed the filter once and I expect the filter will be changed early next year. Love love love my machine!

                                                                                                    • Katie M.

I didn't see the watchdog episode but was it in about the water sitting in the machine? If this is the case I don't believe that water would sit there long enough we have to refuel a lot.

                                                                                                      • Tasher B.

                                                                                                                    • Emma R.
