Parents Report Finding Mould In Cow & Gate Baby Food

Parents are reporting finding mould inside pots of Cow & Gate baby food, according to the Daily Mail.

The paper reports:

'Parents have bombarded a baby food company with angry messages after finding mould and lumpy objects inside pots of yoghurt.'

'Mothers and fathers buying Cow and Gate fruit pots, as well as yoghurts and some formula powders, have been finding 'disgusting' green mould despite the pots being in date.'

Cow & Gate's social media team have been responding to the messages on their Facebook team and referring them, where appropriate, to the Quality Specialist Team.

The Sun newspaper exclusively reported that a mum found lumps of mould in a pot of in-date Cow & Gate Banana Peach and Strawberry Fruit Pot which she was feeding to her nine-month-old son. There have even been reports of parents finding maggots in Cow & Gate products.

Writing on their Facebook page today, Cow & Gate said they were "really concerned" to see comments about their fruit pots and added that the "quality and safety of our products is our top priority" and that their factories "maintain strict internationally-recognised hygiene and production standards".

They added:

'We produce around 18,000 pots every day. It's true that there will always be some instances where products don't meet the high standards parents have come to expect. Occasionally this originates in our factory, but there may also be problems as products are transported and stored. Each product that we have received these complaints about comes from a different batch and/or factory, and our records show there have been no incidents during production.'

'We will, of course, continue to investigate each individual complaint thoroughly, as we always do. Of the pots we have investigated most appear to have been accidentally damaged in transit or storage, for example, in some cases we can see puncture holes in the foil lid – this damage to the pot or lid has allowed air to get in and therefore mould has formed on the natural fruit contents inside.'

'But we are very sorry, we want our foods to reach parents in the best condition and we continue to investigate every complaint. We have explained what we are doing to the parents who have contacted us.'
