Autism Friendly & Additional Needs Shopping Event @ Toys R Us On November 30th

Autism Friendly & Additional Needs Shopping Event @ Toys R Us On November 30th

train

This is a heads up for anyone with kids with autism or additional needs that on November 30th every Toys R Us store in the UK will be holding an autism friendly and additional needs exclusive shopping event.

To make this as comfortable as possible TRU promises “reduced fluorescent lighting, no loud music or tannoy announcements.”  Additionally all staff will have been provided with some parent led autism awareness training.

This does look like a great chance to enjoy some Christmas shopping with your children as the event is exclusively for parents with additional needs children.

The stores will be open 9.am till 11am with tills opening at 11am (due to Sunday trading restrictions) and staff will make sure there is quick efficient access to tills for payment or offer to hold trolleys till an appropriate time if you wish to pop out and return to pay.

Toys R Us go on to add,  “Of course everyone is welcome to come along just browse and play!”

Know anyone that might find this useful? Let them know!

Thanks Stace!

This will be great for my daughter and me as I'll be able to see what she would like for Christmas. I find myself having to guess what she would like for her birthday and Christmas. I will give this a go but I do still see tantrums happening as with any other child who wants something and is told no. It is also a great oppertunity to possibley meet some local parents. As we all know at one point we have all thought that we were alone in this but we most certainly are not alone So let's get sharing as much as we can!!!

How do we provide evidence? It says this event is exclusive to parents with additional needs children. I hope I'm not expected to provide proof?

Well done T.R.U, it's nice to see a bit of forward thinking in the large business sector, Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Not happy with the timimg. 2 hours is not a big enough window to shop in. Also many children and young adults with additional needs are not patient enough to wait for the tills to open nor is it possible for parents/carers to return.

This was a idea that was made a reality by the founder of autism friendly UK, victoria, Just to answer a question above if you need to leave you can have your shopping saved and come bk to pay for it if you child is having a meltdown of some kind, the staff in all of the TRU stores have had a full input in what can happen so they will know what to do in this situation, there is no need for proof that your child has any special needs, if anyone needs any specific answers then join the AF UK fb page and send the question to Victoria Helen Holdsworth or contact you local store

It says they will hold trollies so you can return and pay later.
