There’s a properly heart-warming story in the paper this morning about a teenage boy who saved the life of a little girl.
The Daily Mail reports:
"A 13-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after saving a young girl from drowning on a family holiday. Jack Haines, from Kingstanding, Birmingham pulled seven-year-old Rosie Appleby from a Somerset river after she plunged into the water on her bicycle and became trapped underneath it. The schoolboy was on holiday at Warren Farm Holiday Centre in Brean with his father John, 52, his mother Sue, 49 and sister Megan, 15, when the drama unfolded earlier this week."
Jack was apparently heading off to go fishing when he spotted the little girl and leapt into heroic action. After holding a gate open for Rosie, Jack saw her skid on her bicycle and cycle into the river by accident.
Thanks to his quick-thinking response in pulling her out, Rosie wasn't hurt in the accident.
According to news site thisisthewestcountry.co.uk, Jack's father said:
“He scooped her straight out of the river – she wouldn’t have got out otherwise and nobody would have seen. She was fine afterwards, just covered in dirt. Jack is a fantastic boy and a life-saver.”
But get this. When Rosie's parents rewarded Jack with £10 as a thank you gesture for rescuing their little girl, he used the cash to buy a gift for Rosie instead, whose birthday was the next day.
In the light of all the sad stories circulating in the news, doesn't it just restore your faith in human nature to read a story like this?
