JoJo Bows? Cool As Or No-No?

JoJo Bows? Cool As Or No-No?

Has JoJo Bow mania swept through your child's school yet?

I thought it had yet to catch on where I live in Ireland. But my tween son is sitting next to me and just muttered 'Oh, it's a JoJo bow,' when he saw me reading about them online whilst writing this. So evidently JoJo bows are a thing – even here in the back of beyond.

But now they're going so mainstream, they're worthy of a feature in the Times Educational Supplement. Up for discussion? Whether JoJo bows should be allowed under school uniform policies.

The TES reports:

'JoJo bows are actually nothing new. Similar styles, usually called 'cheer bows' or 'dance bows' have been around for years, worn by competitive dancers, gymnasts and cheerleaders. However, the current trend is being driven by a 13-year-old dancer called JoJo Siwa – hence the new name.'

Apparently JoJo Siwa starred in a reality dance show on US television, and now has an accessories line – including the oversized bows she's fond of wearing – which is available from Claire's Accessories.

They're not cheap, at between £8 and £10 a pop, but if your little girl isn't already begging for one, she apparently soon will.

So. How would you feel if your child's school banned JoJo bows? What's with schools always wanting to clamp down on any bit of self-expression kids happen to seize on?

I'm no fan of JoJo bows – I think they look a bit weird, truth be told. But if my daughter asked for one, I'd be hot-footing it to Claire's Accessories with the best of 'em. Cos isn't that what mums do?

And if, having forked out a tenner for a garish, giant bow for my daughter's hair, I'd be pretty miffed if my child's school tried to tell her she couldn't wear it.

But what's your view on the JoJo bow craze? Have your say by leaving a comment below or come and join the debate over on our Facebook page.

I've bought a couple of jojo bows for my daughter's. I think that they look adorable. However we have been notified by the school today that they are now banned!! Apparently they sometimes cause a distraction in class!

As a teacher, some of these comments from parents are really frustrating. We have to enforce the uniform policy (which you agree to when you send your child to school). It really doesn't help our position when you are not supporting this and we have to waste valuable lesson time sorting out uniform issues. Children do not come to school to express themselves or wear the latest fashions, they are there to learn. if you want to buy these bows (which are fairly hideous in my opinion) then please don't send your child to school wearing one.

I think they look ridiculous and am glad they have been banned at my kids school. A uniform is to make all kids equal and these accessories are unnecessary.

they are so tacky and oversized.  Definitely shouldn't have them for school.

I think my bows are perfect for the envirnment of school! :)

As I am a 13 year old, my school could care less about that weird JoJo siwa girl. I honestly though that she was 10. Also do not by those bows. I know someone who has had to have her replaced 4 times because they are just cheaply made.
