National Cinema Weekend falls on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September this year. Vue, Odeon, Showcase and Cineworld are all taking part with tickets from £4, but what that £4 gets you isn't the same at each of them, so it's worth knowing before you book.
Vue. £4 on all films and all seats, and the good bit is that the £4 already includes their 90p online booking fee, so there's nothing added on at the end. It doesn't cover their Big Screen Events though, which is the live and recorded strand, so opera, theatre, sport, music, comedy, documentaries and re-releases are all out, and neither does it cover IMAX 70mm at Manchester Printworks. You can't stack it with another offer or pay with cinema ticket vouchers, and 3D glasses are extra.
Odeon. £4 on all films, all screens and all seating types, and it's the same £4 whether you book online or buy at the desk. That includes the big format screens, so IMAX, iSense, Dolby and XL, and the Premier and Recliner seat upgrades are in it too. Odeon haven't published any exclusions at all, which makes this the most generous of the four.
Showcase. £4 on every film, every showtime and every screen, with four things left out: Shaun the Sheep: The Movie, the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hunger Games marathon and a Dirty Dancing party screening. Worth knowing too that the Gallery extras, the popcorn, welcome drinks and bento boxes, aren't being given out that weekend.
Cineworld. £4 covers 2D, 3D, 4DX, Superscreen, ScreenX and the recliner seats, but IMAX is the exception and comes in at £6. Event cinema screenings aren't part of it, and Dublin is left out of the whole thing. Unlimited members pay no uplift on the special formats and £2 for IMAX.
If you're picking between them and you want the biggest screen, Odeon is the one to go for, because they're the only one putting IMAX in at £4.
