Barbie Doll With Down Syndrome £12 @ Amazon

Barbie have launched their first ever doll with Down's syndrome, to help more children find a doll that represents them, and it's already a big success with stock flying out. More stock has just become available at Amazon, priced at £12 with free Prime delivery so if you want one I would grab it quickly while you can!

The doll is another first for Mattel, who said they wanted to bring out the doll to “enable all children to see themselves in Barbie”. They partnered with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in the US to develop the doll, and charities have welcomed the move.

Designed in consultation with the NDSS the doll has a new face and body shape to be more illustrative of women with Down’s syndrome. Her outfit incorporates symbols like butterflies which are a symbol of Down syndrome, the blue and yellow colour palette which represents Down syndrome awareness and her pink pendant necklace has three arrows to represent the third 21st chromosome that individuals with Down syndrome have.

Kandi Pickard, the NDSS president and chief executive said “It was an honour working with Barbie on the Barbie doll with Down’s syndrome. This means so much for our community, who for the first time can play with a Barbie doll that looks like them. This Barbie serves as a reminder that we should never underestimate the power of representation. It is a huge step forward for inclusion and a moment that we are celebrating.”

There's free delivery with Prime, or free standard delivery on orders of £25 or more for non-members, with charges applying on smaller orders.
