Trying to cut back on single-use plastic? Charging for single-use carrier bags has lead to a big drop in usage in the UK, and now stores are taking new steps to reduce it even more.

This week Shop Disney* have stopped selling any single-use plastic or paper carrier bags in all of their stores across Europe. Instead customers have the option to buy Disney branded reusable tote bags in a choice of four sizes with prices from just 25p.

This is part of the Disney Company's commitment to reduce single use plastic items and environmental footprint across all of their business areas. It also helps to support their partnered charities, with 5p per tote bag sold in the UK going to Together For Short Lives and In Kind Direct.

The bags are smart blue fabric totes with the Shop Disney logo on, and although they cost more than the previous plastic bags these are designed to be reusable so the per use cost should be lower.

What do you think of this initiative, and should more stores follow suit?
