Yes definitely. My kids deputy head has really looked after my son this year, my daughter's teacher has made her transition to school seamless. The caretaker and lollipop lady have made it safe for my kids to get to school. A thank you gift is a small price to pay for all they've done for my kids x

I have 4 kids. The youngest is moving up to school from playgroup so yes i went in with collection to get gifts for her trachers. My 3 sons are at school and will all have the same teachers next term so no i haven't bought them a gift. When they move up and on to secondary then yes i will then get a gift. X

I always buy something little for my sons teacher and I also buy biscuits/sweets for the whole teaching staff.

This is the problem how can you say thankyou to them all when there is so many it’s difficult but also nice to show appreciation at the same time. X

As a teacher whilst it’s lovely to receive gifts, but to me it’s the comments in the card that make the long hours worth it. Some of my leaving year 11 have reduced me to tears with their appreciation. The joy of teaching comes from knowing you’ve made a difference to someone not a pile of stuff.

Yes I always buy something or chip in a class collection, it could be a small box of chocolates for £1 , it’s the thought that counts

  • Caterina B.

I agree with you - it's the comments in the cards that make it all worthwhile and that show you what a difference you have made throughout the year.

As a teachers husband i believe it’s better to receive gifts (chocolate and wine pls). Best when shared

As a teachers uncle, I think aforementioned teachers husband needs a new project to keep him off social media

As a teacher can I please say no no no!!!! It’s very very sweet but totally unnecessary. And I echo what another teacher said above- a message in a card means a hundred times more times more to me than the gifts. I actually feel really uncomfortable that students/parents feel like they have to spend money doing this.

Many parents don't 'feel like they have to' - it's something we want to do to show our appreciation even if it's a small gift  for a long time I've baked cupcakes or brownies as my son likes to help and loves to take a little present in on the last day x

I give a present at the end of every term for the teacher and TA. They do so much for our kids, they deserve it. We also do a collection amongst the parents and give them John Lewis vouchers.

What do you think?
