Celeb mums have been doing it for years but Kim Kardashian is the latest famous new mum to have her newborn baby's placenta made into a health supplement which she takes daily.
Kim gave birth to her second child, a son named Saint West, earlier this month.
The Daily Mail reports:
"But Kim Kardashian has revealed she has had newborn son Saint's placenta made into pills which she takes daily in a bid to ward off postpartum depression."
"Indeed, the reality star explained, she did the same after the birth of daughter North, and was thrilled with the results."
Now I'm all for anything that might help keep postnatal depression at bay but I can't say I've ever been tempted to tuck into the placenta in any way, shape or form following the birth of any of my babies.
Each to their own, though. Plenty of A-list mums swear by the health properties of placenta pills.
In a blog post entitled 'Eating My Placenta', Kim wrote:
"So, I'm really not this holistic person or someone who would have ever considered eating my placenta. And when I say 'eat my placenta,' I mean that I'm having it freeze-dried and made into a pill form—not actually fry it like a steak and eat it (which some people do, BTW)."
So, did you make use of your baby's placenta in this way, or is it something you'd consider doing if you thought your health and wellbeing might benefit? We'd love to hear your thoughts over on our Facebook page.
