Celebaby: From One Extreme To The Other
Baby-faced-not-even-eighteen-yet Justin Bieber has declared his desire to be a dad by the time he's 25.
Speaking to a fashion website he said, "I want to be a young dad. By 25 or 26 I want to see myself, like, married or start looking for a family."
I caught a documentary about young Mr Bieber last month and, off the back of that, I'm not surprised by his statement of intent at all.
Family is very important to him and he has a close knit one; his mum is firmly in control and despite all the trappings of success and the vast quantities of money Justin has at his disposal, she's keeping his head very much out of the clouds.
One thing's for sure, there's many a teenage girl out there willing to take on the role of Mrs Bieber!
At the other end of the male celebrity spectrum we have the legend that is Des O'Connor.
I must confess, the Des and Mel show (or whatever it was called) was, for a while back in the day, a guilty pleasure of mine.
I rather like Des - don't ask me why, but I do - and the father of four is rather pragmatic when asked whether his baby days are over.
"I don’t want to start again, but who knows?" is Des' most recent answer on the subject of fifth-time fatherhood.
"My wife has mentioned having another baby. But it would be a bit selfish of me at my age, even though I’m in reasonably good nick."
Des will be 80 in January and was lambasted by the press, when Adam was born seven years ago, for being selfish. Des has his own views on this...
"Jodie wanted a baby and if I’d said: “I’ve got four children, but you can’t have one” that would have been selfish.
And if I live as long as my own father — he died at 95 — I should be around to see Adam get married. I do get concerned that one day he’ll realise his dad is older than the other fathers, but I can’t do anything about that.
We have a lot of fun together. I still play football with him, and for his birthday I’ll be going with him to Legoland with a minibus full of his mates."
Good for you Des!
