Giving this Natural History Museum Monocular as a little Christmas pressie appeals to me, but it has to be given to the right sort of child: the one who's been brought up to be inquisitive, or the one who's always harassing their parents to borrow their binoculars to look at garden birds at the far end of the garden, for example.
I think it would be a bit random if you gave one to a child who's never shown any inclination this way at all - mind you, having said that...I suppose you could always buy a little bird spotting book to go with it, to encourage a bit of 'the world around you' exploration.
Of course, you don't have to buy it for a child at all: if there's an adult in your family who'd enjoy having a little 5x magnifying monocular, small enough to fit in their pocket, then buy it for them instead.
Either way and whomever it's for, it's a little magnifying bargain as far as I'm concerned.
