Breastfeeding On The Toilet Selfie Goes Viral

Breastfeeding on the toilet

I am almost afraid to bring this up because of the inevitable outpouring of, um, strongly-held opinion, but have you ever breastfed your baby whilst on the toilet? And if yes, did the thought ever occur to you to take a picture of yourself doing so to share online? Me neither.

But you can forget brelfies and all those other variations on the selfie theme, because it seems the latest 'thing' to tip the internet into a frenzy is taking a picture of yourself whilst breastfeeding your baby - on the toilet. Yes, you read that right.

American mum Elisha Wilson Beach appears to have started the craze when her husband snapped a picture of her on the loo when her little girl, aged 11 months, saw fit to join her for a quick snack. She shared the pic on Instagram and added the caption:

"This is motherhood and it ain't always pretty... #momtruth #motherhood #motherhoodaintpretty#tmi #confessionsofamom #ididthat #iamnotsorry"

The Daily Mail reports:

Originally posted on Instagram and then shared on the Facebook page of Life of Dad, which describes itself as 'the social network for dads', the picture has now been shared more than 25,000 times and has been liked on Facebook more than 211,000 times.

Alabama-born mom-of-two Elisha Wilson Beach, is pictured breastfeeding her daughter in the image. The picture has divided those who've seen it with many criticizing the mother for her unapologetic approach to multi-tasking.

Wilson Beach, who is married to the actor Michael Beach, says she shared the picture to show what her life is really like.

So, have you been there and done that? What's your view?

I have breastfed whilst on the loo, sometimes there's just no getting round it if your little one is screaming and you're desperate for the loo! I wouldn't take a photo though. Even now I sometimes have to go to the loo whilst holding my youngest (when she's poorly and feeling sorry for herself). I've even had my oldest trying to sit on my lap for a story whilst my youngest was in a baby carrier on me. Thankfully at 3.5 yrs and 18 months these should soon be problems of the past!
