Orchard Toys Insey Winsey Spider £4.99 @ Amazon
Christmas is over, and unless you've a birthday on the horizon, the focus right now will probably be on those pesky educational toys. I say pesky because for preschoolers you're never sure if you're getting something that they'll actually learn from. Nursery rhyme themes usually work, especially if it is one that they like. Insey Winsey Spider was a favourite for my neice and my son. This one has a very friendly, jolly looking spider on it so not scary! Plus, Amazon is selling the Orchard Toys Insey Winsey Spider set for £4.99; that's 45% off the RRP of £9.99.
This game aims to help children learn about counting and shapes. The goal is to be the first to move the spider up the drainpipe before it starts to rain. There's not a lot else in the product information - it says that it now includes two games in one for even better value but doesn't say what the other game is.
All except one of the 11 customer reviews give it a four or five star rating. Here's one customer's description of the game: "This game taught him [2 and a half year old son] the fundamentals of turn-taking. It's also great because it has both a spinner and a dice and seems less linear than other toddler games - fate decides who wins, and that takes the bite out of losing. What's more, unlike the many other games with card systems that teach kids basic counting, this game has lovable little spider characters that travel up and down the boards."
For 2 - 4 players, aged 3 - 6 years.
