Want Your Toddler To Dress Like Prince George? Get Knitting!

We all saw the gorgeous pictures of Prince George looking so cute in those official photos in his little woolly tank top with Royal Guardsmen on it. The original top was by Cath Kidston, but it sold out almost immediately, as did most other things in the range. At the time I did a search for knitting patterns to see if it could be recreated and came up with a blank. BUT as luck would have it my Nan managed to get a very similar pattern that was featured in the Daily Mail for free a few days ago!

The Cath Kidston Guards Tank Top is still listed for sale on their website, and at the reduced price of £16, but it is out of stock in all sizes. There are quite a few items in the Guards range featuring the same design, and many of them are in the Sale, but I am struggling to find anything at all that is in stock. That's what happens when you get the royal seal of approval!

So for the meantime unless you can design your own knitting patterns the only way you are going to get your toddler in an outfit like Prince George's is to knit the one in the free pattern. If you can't knit yourself, or are out of practice then you could always try asking someone who can.

The pattern calls for the designers own yarn and costs around £35 for everything you need (!) but there will be a much cheaper alternative knitting yarn that could be used to get a similar effect. I did try to work it out myself but just ended up getting very confused. If you ask someone who is capable of knitting the pattern the chances are they will know how to pick a suitable 2 ply yarn for a fraction of the price as well. Personally I haven't knitted anything more complicated than a scarf for quite some time, so I'll have to ask my Mum or my Nan if they could knit one for my toddler.

I've reverse engineered this pattern, stitch for stitch and it is available for free on http://www.ravelry.com. It is an exact replica of the pullover in the official photo! Just search for Prince George Christmas and it will come up.
