Chocolate Bonbons From Your Surprise Review

Chocolate Bonbons From Your Surprise Review

There’s never a bad time for chocolate and if you’re thinking of breaking away from the eggs and going for something a little more special this Easter, Your Surprise have something absolutely perfect: Chocolate Bonbons.

Actually, the list of things these choccies are ideal for is endless: wedding favours, Christening or naming ceremony favours, presents, commemorations… you name it. There’s a way to include them.

Chocolate Bonbons in this instance are a box of 15 chocolates in a selection of shapes – flowers, squares, rectangles, hearts – and with options of white, dark and milk chocolate, filled with cream, caramel or praline, depending on the shapes you choose. You can then personalise the chocolate with an image of your choice, add a card and place your order.

We chose the heart shaped, cream filled, milk chocolate option, which I actually ordered for my husband for Valentine’s day and I put a picture of myself and my daughter on it for him.

These chocolate are really good. Yes, they cost more than something you’ll get at your local supermarket, but they also taste better and make a much nicer gift. The chocolate is really fantastic too. It’s Belgian, and smooth, rich and utterly delicious.

The only note of caution is to make sure the image you upload is clear. In the image above you can barely see my daughter’s face under a white hat against a white background, and on the chocolates you just see a bit of her face as the hat and background blur into one. A clearer outline or her without the hat would have made for a clearer impression of her on the chocolate. Still that’s not the chocolate’s fault!

If I have a party or a Christening or something in the near future, I think a Chocolate Bonbon in an organza baggy with a bit of ribbon and a thank you card would make a gorgeous token of the day for less than £1.50 per person, and as my guests bite into it, I’d be confident in the knowledge they’d think I paid a lot more.

Chocolate Card Review

Chocolate Card Review

You know you get those people that you just don’t know what to get? In the end you grab the most expensive box of chocolates you can find off the shelf in your local supermarket – or even a ribbon wrapped box of delicacies from the chocolatier? Well, now with the Chocolate Card from Your Surprise  you can give them something that says you did actually put timely thought into their gift.

I ordered a Chocolate Card for myself, as a tester before giving it to someone else, because it’s all fine and well the picture looks good, but you have to see the finished product, and I have to say that I am impressed.

Placing the order couldn’t be simpler: Choose whether you want a photo and text or text only, choose the design you want, if any, and edit your image (it can be colour, black and white or sepia). Add your text, view the end result and order.

Select how many copies you want, and choose your chocolate.

The top layer is always white chocolate and you can choose plain white, milk or dark, and I must admit, this concerned me as I would rather pass up having chocolate, than having white chocolate, but I hoped it would be a thin layer, for printing purposes.

You can add a free gift card too.

When my chocolate arrived, I was really surprised by it. I chose text only and design, and specifically chose what I thought would be an intricate design, and it was beautiful. I angled the text to make it ‘harder’ to do and used a Script font too. It was really finely and delicately done.

I was hesitant to taste it as the white chocolate layer was thicker than I’d have liked, but I couldn’t even tell it was white chocolate. It is rich, smooth, gorgeous Belgian Callebaut chocolate, and it took a lot of love for me to share it with my husband. I even hid it from my daughter.  It is described as a brand “well-known for its intense flavours and outstanding quality” and it really is.

I think this is a stunning idea for someone who ‘has everything’, and if you were after something to send to VIP clients, this would make a Christmas card that would stand out from the crowd. I’m even keeping this in the back of my mind as Christening favours for next year – one Chocolate Card per family will do nicely.

Your Surprise Personalised Story Book Review

Your Surprise Personalised Story Book Review

Last month we offered readers a 15% discount on items from Your Surprise, and I ordered a personalised book for my daughter. I’ve always wondered what they’re like and how they read, and since she is really into animals at the moment, we ordered her the Farm Animals Personalised Book.

There’s a great selection of personalised children's stories on the site, including a baby’s birth story, football and princess stories.

Getting the order done couldn’t be easier. Once you’ve chosen your book, you answer a set of questions such as ‘what is the leading figure’s first name, age, sex, and where do they live'. You can add additional information, like three of your child’s friends, family or favourite people, and then also a personal message.

The personalised book arrived less than a week later, nicely packaged and in a bag you really could use as gift wrapping, if you didn’t want to buy extra.

It is a hardback book, with a glossy cover and is what I consider good quality. It definitely can withstand a bit of playroom rough housing, but of course, the idea is that it is a special gift. On the inside page was the personalised message to my daughter, with the date.

The story itself is quite cute – all about a visit to and subsequent overnight stay on a farm. Her ‘friends’ are included in the text, such as ‘I only wish Dee, Abbi and Lindi could see me now’, or ‘Can’t wait to tell Dee, Abbi and Lindi all about my visit to the farm when I get back to London.’  So, it’s quite cute and my little girl was intrigued by her name coming up in the story.

The only thing that would make it better would be having an image of her included somehow, but still, not only is the book good quality, but the images are too. Actually, the artwork really impressed me.

So, all round, I think it's reasonably priced and am very happy with the quality, and I suspect it’s the kind of book my little one will enjoy more and more as she gets older and really understands the personalised story.
