WilkoPlay! Wilkinson's Toys Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 16 December, 2011 at 1:00 pm

WilkoPlay! Wilkinson's Toys ReviewWe were sent a box of toys from Wilkinson’s and I got to take them home for my daughter and I to unpack.  Some of the items were a bit big for her, so we roped in a friend’s son, but we had loads of fun pulling it all apart and having a go.

Here’s what we thought of the sample of toys we received from the WilkoPlay! range.

WilkoPlay! Wilkinson's Toys Review

First out the box was the Hungry Turtle  (£4.97) which is a 2 – 4 player game. It “promotes social interaction and communication” and is quite a fun game, although I think it has a limited life span. Basically you have four turtles on levers, and each time you press the lever down, the turtle moves backwards and forwards, lifting slightly to ‘grab’ a ball from the central area. It drags the ball down with it into a pit below the turtle, which empties out into a catchment area in front of the player.  The idea is to ‘eat’ as many balls as you can, and when they’re all gone you count the balls and the winner has the most balls.

Toys And Games 50% Off @ Wilkinsons

There’s up to 50% off toys and games at Wilkinson’s at the moment.

I guess it’s in preparation for the summer that there are suddenly loads off toys and games and other kids’ entertainments on sale. While it’s so tempting to just buy, buy, buy,  it remains true that it’s only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway! And with birthday season coming up for us, now’s definitely the time to stock up!

Wilkinson have 50% off the marked price of their items, bringing things down to a very reasonable price.

For example, there’s this Wilko Pop Up Tent for a very reasonable £9.97, 50% off its marked price.

For some active fun, this Space Hopper for £4.07 fits the bill, while getting little ones active in the garden is a breeze with this Peppa Pig Wheelbarrow set.

Postage is not cheap with Wilkinson’s and you’re looking at £4.95 with delivery within 3 days. You can also click and collect, however, which is free,  but you have to wait four days to collect from the store.

Huggies Pure Baby Wipes 87p @ Wilkinsons

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 January, 2011 at 8:00 am

Huggies Pure Baby Wipes 87p @ WilkinsonsWilkinsons are currently selling packs of Huggies Pure Baby Wipes for just 87p - if you were to buy the equivalent single packs in Tesco they would cost you £2.54.

Baby wipes are SO useful that even if you don't have babies, you should have some. Even with my eldest baby now 16 and my youngest four and a half, we still get through fair quantities of them.

There are baby wipes in the all the bathrooms, me and my daughter use them for taking make-up off, there are wipes in the kitchen and a couple of packs in the car.

As far as babies are concerned - these Huggies Pure wipes are designed to clean with the same level of gentleness as water and cotton wool, are approved by the British Skincare Foundation, are pH balanced and perfume and alcohol free.

There's no limit on how many packs of Huggies Baby Wipes you can buy and you can order both online, or buy in-store.

You can order online and arrange for in-store collection after four days of placing your order, or if you really are stuck you can pay £4.95 for home delivery...I'm not sure why on earth you'd do this, but I'm just the messenger and want to arm you with all your options.

4-Drawer Plastic Storage Unit £10 @ Wilkinsons

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 December, 2010 at 9:00 am

4-Drawer Plastic Storage Unit £10 @ WilkinsonsYou can never have too much storage! These plastic drawer storage solutions are great and have SO many uses!

In the kids bedroom for toys, in the bathroom for wet toys or bathroom bits,  in the utility room for all the junk that tends to accumulate there but for some reason mustn’t be thrown away.

Under worktops in the kitchen for extra pots and pan storage maybe, in the garage for all the things you keep in the garage that usually end up in a pile in the corner somewhere, like small garden toys, tennis balls, footballs etc.

If you have a very arty child then these plastic drawers are an ideal way of keeping pens, pencils, paper, rubbers, paints, paintbrushes and all the other arty-farty paraphernalia they accumulate in one place, and all neat and tidy.

Christmas time brings with it a while host of new toys that all need to be found homes, plastic drawers can help you out!

This four-drawer plastic storage unit from Wilkinsons was £20 but they're currently giving them away for £10 - I don't image they'll stay in stock for too long, so if you want one or two then I suggest you don't dawdle in placing your order.

You can collect your order from your local Wilkos or you can arrange to have them delivery your plastic drawers for £4.95.

Happy storing stuff!

Micro Loader M4 And Hat £35 @ Wilkinsons

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 26 October, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Micro Loader M4 And Hat £35 @ WilkinsonsThis battery powered Micro Loader M4 and Hat is on special offer at Wilkinsons for £35, marked down from £75. Delivery (within three days) costs £4.95. Or if you're happy to wait four days, you can reserve and collect in-store for free.

Now I'm posting this because a half price deal like this is always a great bargain, and it looks like a fabulous toy. It is also a sizeable toy at 38cm high and 25cm wide. The depth, by which I assume they mean the length, is 90cm.

But is it a ride-on? There's nothing to say that it is on the site, although it has been posted as a ride-on toy on our sister site HUKD. I would suggest that, if you're looking for a ride-on toy, you call Wilkinson's and confirm before buying.

Still, ride-on or toy, it has a digger for scooping and loading! And, two different engine sounds. Sounds pretty cool to me! It is not suitable for children under 3 years, due to small parts. The loader takes four 1.5v LR14 batteries, not included, and there is assembly required.

Interactive Drawing Desk £30 @ Wilkinsons

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 19 October, 2010 at 9:00 am

Interactive Drawing Desk £30 @ WilkinsonsWilkinsons have slashed the cost of this interactive creativity desk in half, bringing it down to £30.

This interactive creativity desk is cute!

It's a bit of a different take on the usual drawing desks you can get for kids as it's a trace and draw projector.

There's a projector lamp above the desk surface which will project things down on to it.

The desk comes with six image slides (each slide has six images on it) which you slot in to the projector; put a piece of paper underneath and your child can trace over the image cast down from above.

There are also all the letters of the alphabet to copy and 26 example words to get to grips with and learn how to spell.

This interactive creativity desk also comes with it's own little stool and is suitable for kiddies between the ages of three and eight years.

You choose to go and collect this from your nearest Wilkinsons - but you have to wait for four days after you place your order - or you can pay £4.95 and have it delivered to your home.

Wooden Hammering Bench £1.47 @ Wilkinsons

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 September, 2010 at 8:00 am

Wooden Hammering Bench £1.47 @ Wilkinsons If you're looking for a cheap toddler toy that will give hours of fun, then look no further than this wooden hammering bench.

Kids love to bang things for various reasons

  1. it makes noise
  2. to see what happens
  3. it makes NOISE!

For such a simple toy - I mean, you're just hammering pegs in one side until they come out the other, then you flip it over and repeat - your little one will actually be learning a lot whilst playing with it.

  1. it  makes noise
  2. cause and effect - when you bang it makes noise, but the pegs move too
  3. motor skills and coordination - it takes control and accuracy to bash those pegs!

I love classic wooden toys like this and I'd go for wood over gawdy hideous plastic things every time (I don't, of course, include Lego Star Wars in that statement - my four-year-old would never forgive me!).

No batteries, no flashing lights, no beeping, no buzzing, just HAMMERING!

Such a brilliant little toy and Wilkinsons have reduced it from £3.49 down to £1.47.

Now I'll tell you the delivery charge (it's £4.95) but come on, there's a 'Wilcos' on almost every corner so skip down to your nearest one and pick this up for FREEEE (OR get someone else to do it when they're next in town if you're not going any time soon).

Childrens Hammock £15.00 @ Wilkinsons

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 August, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Childrens Hammock £15.00 @ Wilkinsons I know the summer hasn't, and isn't going to be, a scorching one to remember but sitting outside in the garden is still an option

Garden furniture for kids is becoming more and more popular. Popular with kids because it means they have something of their own, and popular with grown ups because it means we're not getting clambered all over when we don't want to be.

This children's hammock will definitely be a big hit with the small people of the family and a big hit with you as it's only £15.

The children's hammock is suitable for little people aged between three and six and has a maximum weight limit of 30kgs. The dimensions are 108cm (h) x 115cm (w) x 82 (d) and self-assembly skills will need to be employed before any swinging takes place.

If you're worried about safety it even comes with seatbelts - I think that's a bit over the top, but at least it's an available feature for those who want to use it.

Delivery to your house will cost £4.95 or you can collect it in-store for free four days after you placed your order.

Twin Glider Seat £35 @ Wilkinsons

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 August, 2010 at 11:00 am

Twin Glider Seat £35 @ WilkinsonsThis twin glider seat for your garden, from Wilkinsons, has been reduced from £60 to £35 which makes it a bit of a swinging deal in my book.

When it comes to garden seating that isn't static, you're either a glider seat fan or a swinging hammock fan.

When I was a kid my friends' parents used to have swings and I always thought they were cool, until my mum and dad bucked the, then, trend and bought a glider seat. It was lovely to be able to move backwards and forwards rather than swing in the usual arc.

The other thing that was GREAT about their glider seat (like this one from Wilko's) was the absence of the usual fru-fru-flowery big padded cushions. There was no more dashing out to get them all in from the garden when it started to rain unexpectedly, or the nightly ritual of packing them all away in the garage.

This glider seat will cost £4.95 for home delivery or you can collect it yourself, for free, from your local Wilko's store four days after you place your order online.

Happy gliding!

Koo-Di Seat Harness @ Wilkinsons

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 15 May, 2010 at 10:00 am

Koo-Di Seat Harness @ WilkinsonsI loved the seat harness I got for my son. In fact, I still have it, even though at five years old he’s hardly going to need one! I can’t over state really just how useful it was to have one, especially when travelling. A reader at HUKD, elle2901, has seen a Koo-Di Seat Harness on half price sale at Wilkinsons, and received a further surprise when she got to the check out and found it reduced by 75%. In all, she paid just £1.99 for one of these. I am gutted – mine was a cloth one like the Koo-Di but a different brand, and I paid nearly £15!

Koo-Di Seat Harness @ WilkinsonsI used my seat harness on a variety of dining chairs, and on one occasion a patio chair made of ornate metal work. Baby clips in to the harness, and is held fairly securely. My son nearly died of happiness when he realised that he was sitting in a big chair like everyone else. It was hard to get him to sit in a high chair again. The harness does get covered in food if you’re using it to feed your child. And this can be a problem if you’re about to hit the road or jump on an airplane. I found I ended up washing it in the sink every day, but this was quite easy to do. Plus for quick fixes, a wipe down does do the trick even if it isn’t as hygienic as you’d like. It gets the excess off, so you can clean it properly later.
