Lego City All Aboard Activity Book With Lego Minifigure £2.99 @ WH Smith

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 3 January, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Lego City All Aboard Activity Book With Lego Minifigure £2.99 @ WH Smith

This is a good price for anything to do with Lego actually, especially when you consider how much these books usually go for. The Lego City All Aboard activity book is down from £5.99 to only £2.99 at WH Smith and you can arrange for free delivery instore to save on delivery charges.

The Lego City All Aboard activity book is perfect for kids aged 5 to 7 years old and lets them create their own action packed adventures on the railway. You can build your very own Lego city train driver minifigure while you go too.

The book has stories and puzzles for kids to complete as they go and is great for keeping them busy on these cold and wet winter afternoons. I know I was wishing for something a bit more activity related the other day when we hit our third day of rain and no sign of it stopping!

The Gruffalo's Child and Monkey Puzzle Board Book Boxed Set £5 @ WH Smith

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 19 November, 2011 at 4:00 pm

The Gruffalo's Child and Monkey Puzzle Board Book Boxed Set £5 @ WH SmithI love the Gruffalo's child. It has a nice pace, and a lovely setting. You can almost hear the shush of the snow in the woods. And also I like that it is a cautionary tale without being preachy. Always best to stay at home with mum and dad kids! If you're looking for a Christmas gift to give to a young child then this could help. It is the Gruffalo's Child and Monkey Puzzle board books in a boxed set that includes a free height chart. If you can collect instore it will only cost £5 at WH Smith. It normally costs £11.98.

The two books come in a slip-cover style box. They're hard books, so more suited to younger children who are a bit rough with paper pages. Slightly older pre-schoolers may find it babyish though.

I'm not so familiar with the Monkey Puzzle book, also written by Julia Donaldson with the same fabulous illustrations from artist Axel Scheffler. The story follows Monkey as, with the (not so) helpful blue butterfly tries to find his mum.

I think that it also contains the words and the music for the Monkey Puzzle song, although I'm not 100% sure that's in all versions of the book.

WH Smith Clearance Sale On Toys And Stationery

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 6 September, 2011 at 3:00 pm

WH Smith Clearance Sale On Toys And Stationery

Unlike my apparently catastrophic Tesco Clearance Sale deal post yesterday which yabbered on about instore bargains, this WH Smith clearance sale is totally, utterly and completely online. It is packed with bargains and discounts on toys and stationery with savings up to 72% off.

I really like how WH Smith has structured their site and the sale. If you go to the landing page and click on Clearance Items, you can then select your category and then do your shopping. The link above takes you to Gifts, Games and Toys so if you fancy anything else just follow that route and you’ll see what else is on offer.

You’ll find personalised story CDs, Toy Story 3 Lego games and activities, Ben and Holly toys, Barbie doodads and even FurReal Friends on sale. The latter are down from £20.99 to only £10.49 which is a rather good saving of half price.

There are loads of items in the sale and many of them reduced to excellently low prices. I’m already using this to nab all the Christmas presents for little nieces and nephews and friends.

Pac Man Alarm Clock £7.19 @ WH Smith

Wake up with Pac Man! You know you want to! Why leave the 80s behind? Why abandon Pac Man to the dingy café arcades of the past when you can wake up with his happy little face right beside you, maw agape, ready to eat any ghosts that attempt to carry you off in the night! Pac Man is down to £7.19 from £11.99 saving you £4.80.

Arcade junkies and kids from the 80s will love this fantabulous Pac Man alarm clock that will sit comfortably on his stand and display the time inside his famous mouth. Yes, you can tell the time by reading his mouth. Life is sweet.

The Pac Man alarm clock has a snooze button (thank goodness) and a handy back light so if you want to know the time at 4am, you can! He comes with the authentic Pac Man sounds too and you can switch off the alarm features and use him as just a standard clock. He needs two AA batteries and WH Smith will charge for postage, still that doesn’t mean you can’t just go and fetch Pac Man from your nearest store.

Rough Guides Up To 50% Off @ WH Smith

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 9 April, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Rough Guides Up To 50% Off @ WH Smith

If you're planning a holiday abroad for this summer, you might be interested in the Rough Guides available at WH Smith right now for up to 50% off.

While you can find most information, probably more up to date on line, trying to find an internet cafe or racing up the data costs on your mobile phone while you're abroad, having a printed book on hand can be sweet relief when your feet are aching.

The Rough Guides to … pretty much anywhere... start at £6.99 (was £13.99) for the guides to Croatia, Dubai, New York, Cyprus and Cape Town, the Winelands and the Garden Route and go up to £11.39 for The Rough Guide to China (was £18.99, so a 40% saving.)

If a holiday abroad is not on the cards for you, there's also a The Rough Guide to Britain (£10.19), which takes a detailed look at Britain's history, literature, politics and cultural life with increased coverage of outdoor activities and expert background on everything from King Arthur to the Edinburgh festival.

And if Britain's still too big, there's even a guide to London (£6.99). Even if you're a Londoner, it's a good book to own as there's so much to see and do in London, it's easy to miss out on good things and this could just give you the boost you need to get out and discover the city.

There's free shipping for orders over £15 too, so buy a couple, and happy holiday planning!

Lego Large Brick Box £18.99 @ WH Smith

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 26 February, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Lego Large Brick Box £18.99 @ WH Smith

There seems to be a box of Lego on sale every other week recently – or maybe I'm just noticing it more now – and today it's WH Smith's turn to put there Lego offerings forward. They have for sale a large Lego brick box for £18.99, which is apparently a 50% saving off the original price.

I guess I'm noticing Lego more now as my little girl is becoming of (Lego) age. She's sixteen months but already has three Duplo sets – none of which she plays with as intended, but she does love the 'Daddy' figurines, and her latest set has a little girl too. So now she has two daddies and a boy and girl and a zoo's worth of animals and flowers. Almost.

This storage box has a transparent lid, and contains a minifigure, a 16x16 stud green building plate, a great mix of standard bricks in various colours, and house and wheels elements.

There's no indication of how many bricks are included, but judging by the comments there aren't many, so don't be disappointed that the box isn't in any way full.

The box also contains an idea book with instructions and inspirations for things to build.

Delivery is free as this is over £15.00.

Large Gruffalo £13.20 @ WH Smith

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 8 January, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Large Gruffalo £13.20 @ WH SmithThey're hideous with orange eyes, terrible tusks, and turned out knees and poisonous warts. But kids love them. Gruffalo's that is. I think I could recite both the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's Child from memory. This large 16" soft toy version of the Gruffalo is available at the moment at WH Smith for £13.50.

This is a saving of 60% on the RRP of £32.99, however WH Smith has had it on sale previously for £14.50. This large Gruffalo soft toy doesn't seem to be on sale anywhere else. The next cheapest I could find it was £17.99 at Amazon, so this looks like a fairly solid bargain.

Delivery is free if you can collect at a store, or if you spend over £15 (so you may want to throw in a magazine or something else you would buy anyway to take the total up). The toy sits at 16" high. The manufacturer's recommended age is 3 years and upwards.

Of the eleven customer reviews on Amazon, 9 give it a four or five star rating. One reviewer comments that "this is a perfect size for my kids and looks more like the gruffalo should." One reviewer found the stitching poor on the Gruffalo they bought, and the other reviewer who gave it three stars found that after watching the video her son was too scared of the Gruffalo to play with it!

Charlie & Lola Craft Suitcase Kit £4.50 @ WH Smiths

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 1 January, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Charlie & Lola Craft Suitcase Kit £4.50 @ WH SmithsHere's one I've already ordered myself for the present drawer! My first purchase for 2011. It's a fabulous bargain if you can use the collect for free option from a store. WH Smith have reduced this lovely Charlie & Lola Craft Suitcase Kit from £14.99 to £4.50. That's a 70% saving.

There's not much, unfortunately, on the website about what you get in the suitcase. It simply says "this kit contains lots of fun things to make crafty flowers. Contains: Card shapes Scissors Pipe Cleaners Tissue paper Ribbon Glitter glue".

It is aimed at girls, with pictures on the front of Lola and her best friend Lotta. I wouldn't be able to give this to a little boy - they're all at that age where they can be a bit funny about these things.

Which is a shame as it would only take having a Charlie character on the box to make this unisex. Little boys do like making flowers too. Or butterflies as I found out the other day (although they did spend a lot of time getting chased and eaten by the toy dinosaurs, but still!).

I do wish that toy manufacturers wouldn't decide for us quite so much what is a boy's toy and what is for girls. It took the Peppa Pig merchandising folks quite a while to work out that boys love the show just as much as girls. When my son was a toddler all he wanted was a Peppa Pig backpack, but I couldn't find any that weren't all pink (and his dad wouldn't let me buy that!). Now you can get backpacks with Peppa and George that are mostly blue and red instead of pink. I'll get off my soap box now!

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 26 September, 2010 at 6:00 pm

In The Night Garden Character Hats £5.99 @ WH SmithThis looks like a really lovely crafty product, at a pretty good price. The Night Garden has appeal for boys and girls alike, and seems to be a winner with any preschoolers I know. WH Smith has reduced its Pack of 3 In The Night Garden Character Hats by 60%, down from £14.97 to £5.99.

Hama Rally 4000 Piece Midi Set £5.99 @ WH Smith

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 24 September, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Hama Rally 4000 Piece Midi Set £5.99 @ WH SmithThis is a 60% saving, so you might need to be quick. While stocks last and all that. WH Smith has reduced the price of the Hama Rally 4000 Piece Midi Set from £14.99 to £5.99. However, to get the best saving you'll need to be able to collect for free instore. Otherwise the lowest cost delivery is Saver, at £2.24.

I'm really intrigued by these bead sets. They look like a lot of fun to do, especially for children like my son who doesn't get into any sort of craft work that involves drawing or colouring in. WH Smith doesn't say what you get in the box; the site simply describes it as a "colourful arts and crafts game will have the kids amused for hours. Choose from one of the many car designs and get to work with your beads to create your very own."

Hama Rally 4000 Piece Midi Set £5.99 @ WH SmithHowever I did find some information elsewhere on the web. Apparantly this set comes with 4000 midi beads, two interlocking square boards, stands, ironing paper, designs and instructions. Do keep in mind that this is not stated on the WH Smith site. It is recommended for ages 5 and up.

WH Smith Printable Vouchers: £5 Off

  • Discount: £5
  • Applies To: Books, stationery and kids stuff
  • Voucher: Printable click on the link above
  • Expires: 26th September 2010

Click on the link above to be taken to a PDF page with four vouchers. You can get £5 off when you spend £10 or more on a book; £15 on books, cards and stationery; and £12 on kids games, books and toys. Also, there's a voucher to get £5 off a £20 spend in the store. This last one exludes mobile phones, games, DVDs, CDs and consoles however.

Personally I'm  not ever going to buy a book from WH Smiths, not when it is so much cheaper to buy them online or from a discount book store. And actually, most of my books these days come from charity stores and the second hand book stall run at my son's primary school every parent evening! But for getting stationery for back to school, especially for secondary school, it is a handy place to shop. So that alone makes this a nice little saving.

Up To 75% Off Back To School @ WH Smith

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 23 August, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Up To 75% Off Back To School @ WH SmithWH Smith haven’t sidled onto the back to school wagon, they’ve jumped on and started blowing horns. They are offering up to 75% off selected back to school goodies that include electronics, filing, arts and crafts, stationary and more.

Don’t worry if the site seems to take ages to load, I had some issues with it but eventually it started working. There are quite a few really useful things in the back to school sale, and some things that just make me go, “What?”. For example, I wouldn’t spend £18 on a pen for a school kid.

Still, things like coloured paper, notebooks and washable markers are down to less than £5, backpacks are going for £2.50 (yeah, that’s really good!), and then designer notebooks are all under £10.

Up To 75% Off Back To School @ WH SmithI am confused by the presence of video replacement cases (Video? Seriously? What?) and a paper cutter (yes, let me give my Reception aged child a paper cutter!) but if you have the patience to wade through some of the weirder options you’ll find some great deals.

My not-so-secret addiction is to stationary. I have a pile of notebooks that I couldn’t resist, and more thingies than you can shake a stick at. So this back to school sale may well be my little treat for the month. Yum, stationary.
