This is another hilarious and moving novel from David Walliams, number one bestseller and fastest growing children's author in the country. A story of prejudice and acceptance, funny lists and silly words, this new book has all the hallmarks of David's previous bestsellers.

Our hero Ben is bored beyond belief after he is made to stay at his grandma's house. She's the most boring grandma ever: all she wants to do is to play Scrabble, and eat cabbage soup. But there are two things Ben doesn't know about his grandma. 1) She was once an international jewel thief. 2) All her life, she has been plotting to steal the Crown Jewels, and now she needs Ben's help…

Gangsta Granny sounds brilliant, might even give it a read myself.

Gruffalo Apron £2.75 @ Waterstones

Gruffalo Apron £2.75 @ Waterstones

Waterstones have on offer a Gruffalo apron for £2.75 instead of £5.50 and they also have free UK delivery.

Deals like this are the reason I love sites like HUKD and PlayPennies. With a little bit of planning, you can be prepared for Christmas and every birthday throughout the year, and be an absolutely fantastic gift giver without it breaking the bank at all. I recently saw a Dr Seuss bib that was so cheap it was almost criminal not to buy it, so I did, and then found out that my daughter's best 'friend' (at playschool) is a Dr Seuss fan. Well, that's Christmas for her wrapped up, and it cost me next to nothing!

This Gruffalo apron would make an ideal stocking filler, or added to one of the many children's baking sets we see floating about these parts, could be a lovely gift too - perfect for wintery apple pie.

This is a cotton apron,  appropriate for children aged 3 - 5 years and size 44cm x 33cm.

First In Series Books £1 @Waterstones

First In Series Books £1 @Waterstones

Waterstons are offering the first book from five series for £1, with free delivery.

This deal was actually posted on HUKD a few weeks ago (thanks verlaque76), but was reposted today, which is where I saw it for the first time.

The idea behind this offer, I guess is to get children hooked on a new series, which is great, really! I loved all the mystery books as a child – The Hardy Boys, Famous Five and Nancy Drew – and would live myself into the series. It was wonderful!

The books on offer here are:

  • Horrid Henry, who tries to be perfect for one day; he learns to dance, quarrels with his arch-enemy Moody Margaret and goes on holiday.
  • Hiccup: How to Train Your Dragon, which is apparently a must read before seeing the film, and is the first in Hiccup's How to Train Your Dragon memoirs.
  • Skulduggery Pleasant is for the slightly older 9- 12 year old readers, as is…
  • … the series on the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history, Artemis Fowl.
  • Lord Loss is the first in the Demonta series for teens, and reading the synopsis, I kind of long for the innocent days of the Famous Five! I’m not into fictional demons and darkness, but the reviewers give it pretty high ratings.

Waterstones Buy One Get One Free Book Deals

I'm in book mode today!  There are currently Buy One Get One Free book deals to be had at Waterstones (on selected titles).

Click HERE to BOGOF over to Waterstones

Do you remember a life without Waterstones? Miserable wasn't it!

I love bookshops; in fact, I just love anything to do with books full stop.

It's just so fantastic to be able to lose yourself in the pages and story of a book and go on different adventures; no batteries required, no flashing lights, no TV necessary...just a great book and a big dollop of imagination!

Titles include a fair few of the, apparently, VERY popular Percy Jackson series.

I don't know anything about Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief other than my teenage daughter keeps going on about it, and was miffed that it was an inflight movie on my long haul trip and not her short haul one.

But having jsut read the synposis of it, it sounds quite cool:

"Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God. I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until, I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. That's when things started really going wrong"

OOPS!

Included are also books by the wonderful Michael Morpurgo, some Horrid Henry books too and prices range between £4.18 to £6.99.

You can check for instore availability online or order online and pay NOTHING for delivery, as Waterstones are currently offering free delivery - how many MORE free things can one ask for (apart from everything, of course!)?

You want MORE? OK - spend over £20 before midday on Monday 25 October, apply this code to your basket - HC8375 - and you'll get 10% off your order too; how's that?!

BOGOF On Selected Books @ WaterstonesFancy nabbing your kids some fabulous books at the Waterstones Buy One Get One Free event? Well they have quite an impressive range on offer for some popular series that are bound to make you and your kids very happy.

I do love the term BOGOF, it sounds a little rude and yet it’s all about getting lovely things for discounted prices. Anyway, let’s take a look at what books are included in this offer shall we?

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a childhood classic, is available in about ten different formats and you’ll find lots of Club Penguin books like Waddle Lot of Laughs and Secret Agent Handbook. You will also find WBOGOF On Selected Books @ Waterstoneshere’s Wally (who has been everywhere!), Peppa Pig and Ben 10.

The range is really for each of these different series’, with several in the Peppa Pig group and the Ben 10 group. There are lots of Where’s Wally titles and a few from the Club Penguin range. So this won’t be a brilliant sale for anyone who doesn’t like these franchises but it will be for those who know some Peppa Pig or Ben 10 fans.

One Get One Free On Children’s Books @ Waterstones

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 12 February, 2010 at 3:00 pm

One Get One Free On Children’s Books @ WaterstonesHow very scrummy, a BOGOF on children’s books at Waterstones!  Yes, this means you get some stunning books at lovely low prices but beware, the adverts say that this is on Kids’ Bestsellers so the range may be slightly limited.

You’ll Francesca Simon’s series, including Moody Margaret and Horrid Henry, Charlie and Lola, Julia Donaldson and plenty more. In fact, even though the limit seems to be on bestsellers, there are tons of fab books to choose from.

Personally I’m a huge fan of the Sir Charlie Stinky Socks series too. I discovered these at our local libOne Get One Free On Children’s Books @ Waterstonesrary and adored the illustrations and light humour. The writer and artist, Kristina Stephenson, put so much effort into creating each illustration its unreal.

For those of you sporting moody teens in your home, there are books here for you too. The Kristin Cast series, Twilight and other such notables are also lurking in the sale. Perhaps, like me, you sneakily read some of these yourself so why not nab a new series and then pretend that it’s a gift for someone else.

Works for me!
