Flip Top Flasks Themed £1.99 @ The Works

These flip top flasks from The Works have all been reduced to £1.99 and this includes free delivery thanks to the code below. You can choose from a range of different themes and they all look rather fabby for this price.

The flip top flasks come in the following flavours: Spongebob SquarePants, Disney Princess, Disney Cars, Dora the Explorer, and Minnie Mouse. Each flask costs £1.99 and the code to get free delivery is DELIVERY15 which is still working just fine as of right now.

These flip top flasks are utterly brilliant, if I do say so myself. The themed pattern is around the entire flask and it comes with a handy carry strap as well as a lid that can click shut to hold the juice/water/whatever.

Brilliant for taking on camping holidays, walks, trips or pretty much anything else (except planes), these flasks will always come in handy. If you buy three at this price you only pay £5.97, not bad at all!

Thomas The Tank Engine Centenary Library £31.99 @ The Works

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 7 May, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Thomas The Tank Engine Centenary Library £31.99 @ The Works

This deal is for the Thomas the Tank Engine Centenary Library by Rev. W. Awdry that includes twenty six of his books in one classic collection. Originally on sale for £150, this collection of books is down to £39.99 at The Works.

The Reverend W. Awdry is the much celebrated creator of The Railway series and he was born in 1911, to celebrate the centenary of his birth all twenty six of his books were collected into one gorgeous library for generations of children to enjoy.

You’ll find the Thomas the Tank Engine series in a gorgeous box that stores them neatly together and looks really pretty with original images across the sides and top. Thanks to the fact that this box set is over £30, your delivery is also free from the store, which is rather nice.

This would make a stunning gift for an expectant parent or as a birthday present to a train mad child.

Ten Favourite Books For Boys £9.99 @ The Works

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 15 April, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Ten Favourite Books For Boys £9.99 @ The Works

The Works has reduced the price of this ten book set from £46.90 to £9.99. There are a bunch of books that offer adventure, fun and plenty of excitement for a very, very low price. Only a few remain in stock so grab it while you can.

I object hugely to gender typing books. I don’t think books should be allocated a gender and that girls should think that this set of books is not for them. Titles such as Sir Gadabout Goes to School or Not Yeti, The Boy with Lightning Feet are as easily enjoyed by the feminine persuasion as by the masculine.

You will also find Horrid Henry’s Jolly Joke Book, The Empty Suit of Armour, The Bogey Men and the Trolls Next Door, and The Boy with the Magic Numbers as well as other fun titles to read and enjoy. You will also have to pay £2.99 for delivery I’m afraid.

Bargain Easter Basket Crafts

by Lynley Oram in Features on 19 March, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Bargain Easter Basket CraftsOne of the surest things about becoming a parent is that, sooner than you’d think, you’re up to your elbows in glue, scrunched up tissue paper, cut up magazines, and bits of old cereal boxes.

And as if to help parents out with ideas, just about every month there's something else happening that you can theme your crafts around. This month it is Easter.

There's lots of Easter crafts you can go for. Eggs, nests, bonnets, anything themed with chicks or bunnies. For this particular feature I'm focusing on Easter Baskets. And if you're not doing an Easter Egg hunt then I'd really recommend giving it a try. There's a little wood near us, and for the last couple of years a small number of us have got together and had a little Easter egg hunt for the kids. It is a huge amount of fun!

What you want to do is give the kids enough material to allow them to really go nuts with their imagination. And as it is Easter holidays, to give them an activity that will help keep them busy for a while.

All of which means one thing - you’re probably going to have to spend some money (ideally as little as possible)! To help you out, we’ve ferreted out some of the cheapest places we could find for the basic ingredients, or better yet, Easter basket making kits.

Wooden Puzzles £1.99 @ The Works

Wooden Puzzles £1.99 @ The Works

There are 3 different wooden puzzles for small children available at The Works at the moment, selling at £1.99 each. There’s no before price, so I’m  not sure what you’re saving, but still, £1.99 a piece isn’t a bad price as similar products with different names can cost as little as twice as much and more.

There aren’t massive amounts of stock left online, but you should still be able to grab a few nice pieces or even whole sets for under £6. Delivery will add £2.99 to your order or you can see what you find in your local store.

Available here and now are a Zoo puzzle with ten pieces – which is cute but does not accurately portray the animals, so you’ll be teaching shape matching and problem solving skills, but not real animal visuals.

The farm puzzle has nine pieces and much better colour representation, with the exception of the hen who finds herself an odd pink colour and the Construction set has 8-pieces with trucks and a workman.

I quite like that the boards on these sets are decorated according to the theme too. We have a few wooden puzzles and the boards give no indication of what set belongs in them, which makes it quite hard when your two year old has mixed all the pieces together!

The Gruffalo’s Child Activity Book £1.99 @ The Works

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 11 February, 2012 at 11:00 am

The Gruffalo’s Child Activity Book £1.99 @ The Works

The Gruffalo’s Child Activity Book is reduced from £3.99 to £1.99 at The Works which has a special offer on books at the moment. There aren’t many in stock on line, but hopefully you have a store near you where you can stock up on children’s books in their sale.

Did you know there’s a new Gruffalo DVD out this week too? The 13th of Feb sees the Gruffalo and his daughter grace our small screens, just in time for half term. Narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, the Gruffalo’s daughter ignores her father’s warning and tiptoes out into the snow in search of the legendary Big Bad Mouse. She meets Owl, Fox and Snake on her journey and promises to be as enchanting a film as its predecessor.

So, why not make a Gruffalo day of it? This activity pack is based on the original story – I’m sure there’ll be  updates out soon enough -  and is ‘bursting’ with games, puzzles, drawings, colouring pages and over 40 reusable stickers.

It sounds like a perfect opportunity for a snowball fight, a cuddle on the sofa with the new DVD and then an afternoon’s activities with The Gruffalo’s Child Activity Book this half term!

Horrid Henry 3 In 1 Books £1.99 @ The Works

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 14 August, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Horrid Henry 3 In 1 Books £1.99 @ The WorksHorrid Henry is a hugely popular CiTV television programme, and it is now also a movie. But before all that were the books. These books have an RRP of £8.99 and are available at The Works for £1.99 each.

Now, I understand from other parents that Horrid Henry isn't exactly their favourite, but the children can't get enough of him. And if it gets them reading books, can't be all bad right?

Each book is three books in one volume. For example, A Giant Slice of Horrid Henry is made up of

  • Horrid Henry Meets the Queen
  • Horrid Henry's Underpants
  • Horrid Henry's Stink Bomb

According to the blurb, horrid Henry's evil plans so often go awry - and every child in the country loves hearing about them. Small wonder really that these books are so popular. I'm not entirely sure of the point of the stories though. Are they meant to be a warning to children? It sounds more to me like they're just providing them with ideas!

The three books in this collection include stories in which he's given some embarrassingly pink underpants, the one in which he devises a cunning plan to get out of doing chores, and the one in which he shows Perfect Peter how to bow to the Queen, with disastrous results.
