The Very Hungry Caterpillar Gift Set £5.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 November, 2011 at 12:00 pm

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Gift Set £5.99 @ AmazonStumble across a Very Hungry Caterpillar deal and I have a very hard time not telling you about it - this Very Hungry Caterpillar gift set would make a lovely little stocking filler pressie for someone who's not yet been introduced to one of the best childrens' stories of all time.

I can promise you faithfully that this Very Hungry Caterpillar gift set is just lovely as I bought it for Tamsin's daughter for her fourth birthday and she loved (loves) him.

The book is a little hardback version of the original Very Hungry Caterpillar book, but all the holes are still in the right places, he still eats watermelon and still munches on salami.

The normal retail price for a Very Hungry Caterpillar gift set is £10.99 but Amazon will let you have him for just £5.99 - don't muse for too long over whether to buy this though, Amazon have a habit of putting their prices up whenever I write about something totally awesome!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet Book £3.99 @ Red House Books

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 22 November, 2011 at 9:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet Book £3.99 @ Red House BooksThe folks over at Red House Books are selling this AWESOME The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet Book for £3.99 instead of £9.99; fabulous.

Did you know that The Very Hungry Caterpillar was first published in 1969?  His story is stuff of legend and I don't know anyone who didn't enjoy reading about his cake, salami and watermelon munching antics when they were a child.

I've not heard of anyone who poked their fingers through the holes in the pages, put the book down after the Very Hungry Caterpillar had emerged as a beautiful butterfly and said, "actually...that was a bit rubbish, I don't think I'll bother reading that again."

I think it should be passed as law that every child in the country, no - let's make it the WORLD - has at least one Very Hungry Caterpillar something from as early on in their lives as possible.

This The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet version of the original is the same in every way but with a bit of a twist!  There's a wriggly, green Very Hungry Caterpillar finger puppet to play with and add an extra dimension to the whole wonderful story.

Here's what The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet book is selling for with the rest of the usual gang:

  • Amazon.co.uk £5.19
  • John Lewis £8.90
  • Zavvi.com £6.78
  • Base.com £6.78
  • Early Learning Centre £11.34

Not ONLY is the Red House Books price the best, you'll also get free delivery if you use one of these codes: FREERED or 117FREE.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Fleece Blanket £3.99 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 14 November, 2011 at 11:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Fleece Blanket £3.99 @ PlayOhhh I wish I had a child young enough to appreciate this Very Hungry Caterpillar fleece blanket! It's the Teenagers' birthdays on Thursday and, somehow, I don't think they'd be jumping for joy if I gave them a Very Hungry Caterpillar fleece to commemorate their late teen milestones.

The usual retail price for this Very Hungry Caterpillar fleece blanket is £9.99; if you pop over to Play now, you'll be able to pick one up for £3.99 which I think is a real bargain for ANY fleece blanket, let alone a Very Hungry Caterpillar one.

You really can't beat fleece blankets, they're a far cry from the heavy, musty-smelling, ribbon-edged blanket my nan used to have to keep us warm at her house when we were little. I wouldn't be without them and used to keep a couple in the car when the Teenagers were small to keep them warm in the car on chilly mornings.

This Very Hungry Caterpillar fleece blanket measures 150cm x 120cm, can be washed at 40C and then tumble dried; if you've got radiators in your house though (and I'm assuming you've switched the heating back on now) then I find throwing fleece blankets over them sees them dry in less than 20 minutes.

As always, there aren't any charges for UK mainland delivery so £3.99 is the total price for this Very Hungry Caterpillar fleece blanket.

Bumper Box For Bookworms DVD Box Set £5.95 @ The Hut

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 October, 2011 at 10:00 am

Bumper Box For Bookworms DVD Box Set £5.95 @ The HutThere are several places selling this Bumper Box for Bookworms DVD box set at the moment, and all of them are around the same price.  The recommended price is £14.79, The Hut have decided they'd rather let you have it for £5.95 instead.

I've written about this Bumper Box for Bookworms DVD box set before - I liked the look of it then and I still like the look of it now. It contains four discs of classic childhood stories such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things are and some others that I've never heard of.

The not-heard-of-by-me 'classics' are: Rosie's Walk, In the Night Kitchen (I wonder if that's where Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle cook their meals!) and Prince Cinders, to name just some.

I know that some parents are reluctant to let their kids watch TV but for something nice and innocent to watch, and which can encourage reluctant youngsters to sit and read the book versions, you could do worse than this Bumper Box for Bookworms DVD box set.

UK delivery is free with The Hut, so £5.95 is all you're going to pay.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Card Game £2.19 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 12 March, 2011 at 8:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Card Game £2.19 @ AmazonThere's no better way to start a Saturday that with  something Very Hungry Caterpillar, like this The Very Hungry Caterpillar Card Game

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Card Game is part of the collection in the ‘game drawer’ in my youngest’s classroom and all the kids love playing it.

You follow the Very Hungry Caterpillar through cards as he makes his way to becoming a beautiful butterfly, but you must be careful because too many party foods will slow down your progress!

There’s something about the story of this very hungry fellow just doing what he needs to do to NOT be hungry and then turning into a butterfly that was absolutely captivating to me as a child.

My heart jumps with delight and warm fuzzy childhood memories whenever I see the Very Hungry Caterpillar. He was first published in 1969 – did you know that? – and not only is he an iconic story from MY childhood but in almost every childhood since.

I’ve yet to see, or hear of, a child who’s read The Very Hungry Caterpillar story, not poked their fingers through the holes and giggled at all the things he eats, then puts the book down and says, “I didn’t like that story, it’s a bit rubbish!”

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Card Game is a great little game that will only cost you £2.19 from Amazon instead of £3.99.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Deals @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 November, 2010 at 11:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Deals @ AmazonAmazon have some rather nice little Very Hungry Caterpillar deals at the moment!

Just because you and I know about the Very Hungry Caterpillar that doesn’t mean that EVERYONE does, and I feel it’s my social responsibility to make sure that no one slips through the net!

I can, hand on heart, tell you that the Very Hungry Caterpillar book and toy gift set is lovely - I bought it for Tamsin's daughter back in July and she LOVED it! All 17 reviewers have given it five star glory.

I have my very own copy of the Very Hungry Caterpillar Colouring Book; I actually bought it for myself after my mum bought one for my youngest a couple of Christmasses ago.

It broke my heart seeing the pictures coloured-in toddler style, so I got one and felt much better seeing them all beautifully shaded with no colour outside the lines.

There are anniversary edition pop-up books, My Little Library Very Hungry Caterpillar books and even the book with an audio CD.

If you adore the tale of the Very Hungry Caterpillar as much as I do, then you'll be like a kid in a sweet shop (or a caterpillar in a cabbage field) looking through all the different Very Hungry Caterpillar things up for grabs!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Colour Me Soft Book £6.49 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 October, 2010 at 9:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Colour Me Soft Book £6.49 @ Play

This Very Hungry Caterpillar 'Colour Me' soft book is a really lovely idea and something I haven't come across before, which is saying something when it comes to anything Very Hungry Caterpillar!

I've loved the Very Hungry Caterpillar ever since I first met him at infants school (as it was called then, none of this Reception malarky).

The Teenagers loved him as kids and love him now; my youngest loved him and whilst Ben 10 is currently the BIG thing in his life, he still comes back to the Very Hungry Caterpillar now and again.

My mum bought him a Very Hungry Caterpillar colouring book a couple of Christmases ago, I ended up buying one for me as I wanted to colour one in for myself - properly, inside the lines and everything!

With The Very Hungry Caterpillar 'Colour Me' soft book, you don't get to colour in the pictures once - it comes with machine washable pens so you can colour in the pages, put the soft book in the wash which then comes out clean ready to be coloured in all over again!

I think this is genius!  Great for kids who love to do the same thing over and over, or those who have perfectionist streaks and get frustrated if their attempts aren't as great as they want them to be.

The rrp for this Very Hungry Caterpillar 'Colour Me' soft book is £12.99, you can get it from Play for £6.49 with no delivery costs to pay.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book and Toy Gift Set £5.96 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 August, 2010 at 11:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book and Toy Gift Set £5.96 @ Amazon I couldn't resist - I don't mind single-handedly leading a PlayPennies Very Hungry Caterpillar revolution!

You see, just because you and I know about the Very Hungry Caterpillar that doesn't mean that EVERYONE does, and I feel it's my social responsibility to make sure that no one slips through the net!

I can, hand on heart, tell you that this Very Hungry Caterpillar book and toy gift set is lovely.

I bought it as a birthday pressie last month for Tamsin's daughter and I think I got more joy out of watching her discover the VHC for the first time (and fall in love with him, I might add) than she did from opening a belated present (I gave it to her in person, rather than sending it in the post).

The book is a little hardback version but it still has all the holes in the right pages and the Very Hungry Caterpillar still eats a big slice of watermelon.

The little Very Hungry Caterpillar toy is just too cute for words and if there was a big one I'd definitely buy him for myself!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book and Toy Gift Set £5.96 @ Amazon The normal retail price for this is £10.99 (shhhh don't tell Tamsin!) but Amazon will let you have him for just £5.96 - be quick though as they have a habit of putting their prices up whenever I write about something awesome!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Ring Rattle £3.99 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 August, 2010 at 8:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Ring Rattle £3.99 @ PlayHow can you not fall in love with this Very Hungry Caterpillar ring rattle?!

I adore the Very Hungry Caterpillar! He's like my own childhood Gruffalo - I would read the book over and over and over, I loved to just look at the pictures and I never ever got tired of him...I'm still not.

Every childhood should include the VHC, as far as I'm concerned, and the earlier the better and this Very Hungry Caterpillar ring rattle is just the thing for an early introduction.

The ring is clear and perfect for tiny grabbing hands to grab hold of, inside there are coloured beads which will rattle gently, and catch the attention of young eyes, when they shake it for all they're worth.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Ring Rattle £3.99 @ PlayAnd sitting on the top of the ring is...the Very Hungry Caterpillar!  He's soft and colourful and I have yet to come across anyone, adult, child or baby, who doesn't love him.  The usual price for this Very Hungry Caterpillar ring rattle is £7.99 but Play are giving him away for £3.99.

There is just one thing I'm disappointed about though - I don't know anyone in the market for something along these lines, so I have absoultey NO excuse to buy one.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Magnetic Adventures £2.99 @ Play.com

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 June, 2010 at 8:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Magnetic Adventures £2.99 @ Play.comMy heart jumps with delight and warm fuzzy childhood memories whenever I see the Very Hungry Caterpillar

There's something about the story of this very hungry fellow just doing what he needs to do to NOT be hungry and then turning into a butterfly that was absolutely captivating to me as a child.

And as a grown up (allegedly anyway) I still find him incredibly endearing - perhaps I should get this Very Hungry Caterpillar magnetic adventures set for myself!  I could create VHC adventures on my fridge whilst I was cooking dinner, I wonder if that would make it more fun..? I can only hope!

It's all pretty self-explantory really, you create Very Hungry Caterpillar magnetic adventures with shapes from the story - the VHC himself (obviously, otherwise it would just be 'Magnetic Adventures'), leaves, the tree and so on.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Magnetic Adventures £2.99 @ Play.comYou can do this on the fridge (one of the great playing and art gallery spaces of the modern age), on the tin that the pieces come in - which makes it great for taking out and about - or any other suface that the pieces will stick to.

Play.com are selling Very Hungry Caterpillar magnetic adventures for £2.99 instead of the £5.99 rrp and there's no delivery to pay either.

Hurrah for Play.com and hurrah for the Very Hungry Caterpillar!

Hungry Caterpillar Mug And Book £10.12 @ DebenhamsI can resist most things, but anything Hungry Caterpillar and all my resolve goes right out of the window!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar was one of those books that I could read over and over and over again as a kid; I loved everything about the story, the holes in the pictures and the way each of the food pages were different sizes.

I'm still entranced by it today in fact, so much so that when my youngest was given a Very Hungry Caterpillar colouring book I had to buy one for myself for ME to colour in!

So when I saw this book and mug set my heart soared and before I knew it I'd bought it!  There are three copies of the book in this house (one for each child as they were growing up) and now I have one ALL of my very own AND a mug too!!

It's the mug that swung it for me really - early morning coffee in a Very Hungry Caterpillar mug appeals to me greatly.  Sorry?  What do you mean it's supposed to be a children's gift..?
