Doctor Who: Who-ology (Hardback) £3.59 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

Doctor Who: Who-ology (Hardback) £3.59 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are selling this Doctor Who: Who-ology, in hardback, for £3.59 when it's recommended list price is £12.99.

I love Doctor Who - although, I have to confess that I still haven't warmed to Matt Smith.  After all the episodes he's played the Doctor for now, I'm guessing I never will - BRING BACK DAVID TENNANT!

This Doctor Who: Who-ology is a must for any Doc fan and reveals all sorts of facts and trivia about everyone's favourite Time Lord, such as: Who are the members of the Doctor's family? What are the 20 best ways to define a Dalek? What are the galactic coordinates for Gallifrey?

Then there are the ins and outs of the Tardis to discover, and a complete listing of all the scary monters and bad guys that the Doctor has defended planets from, for the last 50 years.

You'll need to use a couple of codes: one, to bring the price down from £3.99, to £3.59 and another to bag yourself free delivery - they are MAYWEL and TENWIN - don't forget them, otherwise you'll end up paying more than you need to!

Big Book Of Drawing, Doodling And Colouring For Girls/Boys £4.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Big Book Of Drawing, Doodling And Colouring For Girls/Boys £4.99 @ The Book PeopleIf you head over to the Book People, you'll be able to pick up a copy of this Big Book of Drawing and Colouring for either boys or girls for just £4.99. The usual list price is £14.99.

If you want value for money then any kind of colouring and drawing book hits the spot as far as I'm concerned - they are an absolute must if you have children, of almost any age (well, perhaps not teenagers, but you know what I'm getting at).

I always adored colouring in pictures in colouring books when I was little - my nan kept a stash of them at her house; my grandma always had piles of blank paper and a huge tub of crayons on standby, and there were always colouring books at home too.

You could generally guarantee that something along the lines of a Big Book of Drawing, Doodling and Colouring would feature somewhere in the birthday and Christmas present haul as well.

For girls, the pages are full of birds, butterflies, fairies, fashion, rainbows and shooting stars, and all sorts of other pretty patterns and popular designs.  For the boys, there are cars, planes, aliens and other 'boy things' to enjoy.

Happy doodling, drawing and colouring!

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 6 May, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Bedtime Fun for Everyone Collection £9.99 @ The Book PeopleI'm never sure with the Book People whether anyone actually ever buys things at the rather exorbitant RRP prices, or whether those are just there to con wannabe savvy shoppers into thinking we're grabbing a huge bargain.

That's pretty much the case with the Bedtime Fun for Everyone Collection that's on offer today. They say the RRP on it is £60.50 but their price is £9.99 which is much mire like it! Add the code SIMPLE for free delivery too.

The Secret Seven Book Collection £15.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

The Secret Seven Book Collection £15.99 @ The Book PeopleIf you're looking for a new collection of bedtime stories to work through, then you could do worse than considering this Secret Seven book collection.  If you head over to the Book People, you'll be able to pick up a collection for £15.99 rather than the full list price of £74.85.

I have a confession to make: I've not read a single Secret Seven book! Not one.  Nor a Famous Five one.  I am, however, a huge Enid Blyton fan and know I can safely recommend this Secret Seven book collection without fear of it being rubbish.

I read all the Adventure books that she wrote, the first one was Mountain of Adventure - seriously, if you can get hold of those then DO! They are awesome stories, very similar to the Secret Seven and Famous Five, that grab you from the first few pages and refuse to let you go until you've read the every single word.

Single item delivery will cost you an additional £2.80, there were some free delivery codes floating around a while ago - try TULIP or MARWEL but don't hold your breath, they may well have expired.

Happy discovering the Secret Seven

Angry Birds Star Wars Ultimate Sticker Collection £3.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 25 April, 2013 at 10:00 am

Angry Birds Star Wars Ultimate Sticker Collection £3.99 @ The Book PeopleIf you head over to the Book People, you'll be able to pick up a copy of this Angry Birds Star Wars Ultimate Sticker Collection book for £3.99, rather than £7.99.

The moment anything Angry Birds is released, my youngest son and I download it and rush to see which of us can get the furthest the quickest! It doesn't do my gaming self esteem any good to have to confess to you that he is, invariably, much more skilled at all things Angry Birds than me.

I put it down to the fact that he has more time to play than I do; he says that's rubbish and it's purely because he has, and I quote, "SKILLS!" and I don't.

Anyway, I digress!  This Angry Birds Star Wars Ultimate Sticker Collection is packed with more than 1000 reusable stickers featuring all the best characters from Star Wars Angry Birds. The pages also feature games, activities and puzzles to complete too.

I reckon I can stick stickers into the book straighter than Edward can!  Come on, I have to be able to beat him at something - he thrashes me in Wii Tennis too, but that's a whole other story!

If you spend over £25 with the Book People then delivery is free, otherwise single item delivery is £2.80. There've been a few free delivery codes floating around - I'm not sure if they're still valid, I haven't seen any comments that suggest otherwise - TULIP and MARWEL are two them.  Give them a bash and if it works then awesome; if they don't, then so be it - nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that!

Happy Angry Birds sticking!

Just Imagine Story Book £3.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 April, 2013 at 9:00 am

Just Imagine Story Book £3.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are selling this incredibly popular Just Imagine book, in hardback format, for £3.99 - it's recommended list price is £10.99.

I'm very excited by this book and may point my mum in its direction - this is the sort of thing she loves giving as presents, and my youngest niece has such a fabulous little imagination that I'm sure she'd adore Just Imagine for her birthday at the end of this month.

Thirty two pages of illustrations encourages kids to make up their own stories from the images they choose - how awesome is that?!  They'll be able to imagine what it's like to plough fields in a big red tractor - perhaps there's a scarecrow in the field who comes to life - if that's where their imagination takes them.  Or what it would be like to fly in a hot air balloon, be invisible, or be able to cast spells like a witch or wizard - no story will ever be the same twice, unless they want it to be.

Plenty of other people adore this book already, and its 'prequel' You Choose, so please don't wait too long to order your copy (if you think you might want one) as I'm sure it'll go out of stock pretty quickly.

Single item delivery usually costs £2.80, but you can bag it for free if you enter MARWEL into the promotion code/discount box in your basket.

Happy imagining!

  • Click HERE to take a look at the We're Going on a Bear Hunt jigsaw puzzle book *

"We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a BIG one!" OHHHH I LOVE THIS BOOK!  Ok, I love ALL books but this one definitely falls into the 'most favourite' category!

The words of this story are almost as familiar to me as my own name - from having it read to me as a child ("Wow mum, can you remember that far back?" "Yes, and YES we had electricity in those days!"), to marching through woods singing it when I was in the Brownies (ok, stop laughing) and then reading it to my own children - all of them have loved it and the numerous copies we possess are well-worn.

This particular version tells the original tale, in all its glory, but it also comes with seven 12-piece jigsaw puzzles to complete along the way.

Single item delivery usually costs £2.80 - however, if you use either the MARWEL or TULIP delivery codes (enter it into the promotions code box in your basket) then delivery will be freeeee.

Michael Morpurgo Book Collection £16.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 March, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Michael Morpurgo Book Collection £16.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are selling this Michael Morpurgo book collection for £16.99 rather than its list price of £91.84.

Why The Whales Came was my first introduction to Michael Morpurgo when my daughter brought the book home from school, it told a story about the magical Narwahl whale and it's mysterious horn and was utterly enchanting.

Micheal Morpurgo is widely regarded as one of the best children's writers around and with good reason, his stories are compelling and once they have hold of you they'll never let you go.

He writes about all sorts of things from retired greyhounds, adventurous cats or soldiers and horses in the trenches, if you read a Michael Morpurgo story you're guaranteed a magical and wonderful read.

If you're new to the literary world of Michael Mopurgo then it's probably due to the movie adaptation of War Horse - the story of a horse being taken from his boy owner to serve as a war horse on the front line during World War I.

I've seen it; I sobbed, and it's one of the few books I've felt compelled to buy after watching the movie - the Life of Pi is the other one, but that's for a whole other post!

You 16 Michael Morpurgo books won't be sent out until Wednesday, so if you needed something before then, then I'm sorry about that. Delivery will cost an additional £2.80 too - free delivery codes that are valid for more than 12 or 24 hours are a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

Shakespeare Story Collection (16 Books) £9.99 @ The Book Peopele

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 March, 2013 at 9:00 am

Shakespeare Story Collection (16 Books) £9.99 @ The Book PeopeleTo buy, or not to buy shouldn't be your question when it comes to this Shakespeare Story Collection - 16 of William Shakespeare's most famous plays and stories have been rewritten especially for kids and you can have them all for just £9.99, instead of £79.84.

If you switch off when you hear the name Shakespeare because you had to read one of his plays during English Lit' at school, now's your chance to find out what the plays were REALLY about.

I remember everyone groaning when it was announced, in my English class, that we'd be reading A Midsummer Night's Dream and we'd each have to read some of it out loud - no one wanted to and everyone hated it.

Perhaps if we'd read the books that make up this Shakespeare story collection we'd have all enjoyed it a little more - you see, all of Shakespeare's stories are rather awesome and it's a real shame that lots of people end up missing out because they're not always the most light reading friendly!

Single item delivery will set you back and additional £2.80, but that's hardly bank account busting stuff.

Happy getting to grips with Shakespeare!

Little Miss Complete Book Collection £20 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 March, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Little Miss Complete Book Collection £20 @ The Book PeopleThis complete Little Miss book collection is something else I've written about a couple of times before (three, actually, if you want to be really precise) and it's back to being the cheapest I've seen it for - £20 instead of the full recommended price of £90.

As PlayPennies' resident book obsessive, it would be remiss of me not to tell you about this great Little Miss book collection again, and don't be fooled into thinking these stories are just for girls, they're not: Edward, my nearly seven-year-old son, has a copy of Little Miss Star and she is one of his most favourite stories, still!

Thirty six books make up the Little Miss book collection which, with a bit of Year One maths, works out at 50 pence a book - an absolute bargain as far as I'm concerned (I was going to say 'in my book' but that's a pun too far, even for me!). The books also come in a lovely presentation box so you can keep them all together.

Little Miss Neat adore the presentation box and thinks  it is a lovely idea.  Little Miss Tidy is tempted to put money on your kids NOT putting the books back in the box (let alone the right order!), Little Miss Contrary says they might...but then again perhaps not, and as for Little Miss I Told You So, well, I'm sure you can guess what she says!

Now, here's a little 'Brucey bonus' for you: enter MYGIFT at the checkout and the Book People will send you a free gift (I don't know what it will be)

My Naughty Little Puppy Book Collection £6.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 March, 2013 at 11:00 am

My Naughty Little Puppy Book Collection £6.99 @ The Book PeopleIf you're after some new books to add to your child's library, take a look at this My Naughty Little Puppy book collection. The stories look rather fun and the six books that make up the collection are yours for £6.99, rather than £29.94.

Puppies! They really can be naughty and the jack russell puppy in these stories is no exception!  Ellie adopts him and calls him Rascal - a name to which he most certainly lives up to.

He and Ellie are soon embroiled in all sorts of mischief and adventures. They get sent to dog training classes (I can see those going well, can't you!), they enjoy a school sports day - with a difference, the official blurb says and unless you've already read the story, your guess as to what the difference is as good as mine.

They also host a sleepover and go Christmas carol singing to fund-raise for charity - perhaps you can whip that particular story out and save it for Christmas time!

Single item delivery will set you back and additional £2.80, unless you're up for spending more money, taking your order over £25 and qualifying for free delivery.

Roald Dahl Book Collection £15.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 9 March, 2013 at 9:00 am

Roald Dahl Book Collection £15.99 @ The Book PeopleI have lots of favourite story books and authors from my childhood and Road Dahl is one of them. This will be my sixth time of telling you about the Roald Dahl book collection (that doesn't sound so bad when I remember the previous five times have been spread out over three years!) and each time it flies out of stock pretty quickly.

I adore books; I loved them as a child and I love them as an adult.  Enid Blyton was the first author I remember but Roald Dahl HAS to be my most, and enduring, favourite of them all - so I'm seriously tempted to buy this book collection just ME.

I have very fond memories reading Fantastic Mr Fox - Foxy was just so cunning and clever and Badger, lovely and cuddly; Danny Champion of the World was utterly gripping and subsequently turned into a fantastic film.

The Twits were just a gross pair of, if memory serves me correctly, 'grizzly gorgons' and who can forget George's Marvellous Medicine and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The full list price for this 15-book Roald Dahl collection is £85.85, you can have them all for a mere £15.99, which is an absolute bargain...in my book (sorry!)

Try this free delivery code - FWELLB - I'm not sure whether it's a single-use or first-order code (which, if it is, and this will be your first order, or the first time you use it then hurrah for you!) so if you're a regular over at the Book People you may need to pay the £2.80 single item delivery fee.

The LEGO Ideas Book £2.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 8 March, 2013 at 10:00 am

The LEGO Ideas Book £2.99 @ The Book PeopleI've written about this LEGO Ideas book a couple of times before, but not for a while - I think it's that good that I'm going to tell you about it again, ESPECIALLY as I've not seen it cheaper than this before: £2.99 instead of £16.99 - the usual discounted price we see it for is around the £4.99 mark.

The Easter holidays are looming and if the weather's naff then this book and a box of LEGO might just save your sanity.  It features over 500 different model ideas and tips from expert LEGO builders on how to make your jet planes even more supersonic, create fabulous fortresses and all sorts - rather than step-by-step instructions.

My youngest has a ton of LEGO bits and pieces and already makes up his own models so this is something that he'd probably like, due to his not wanting to always follow the LEGO 'rules' set out by the model designer.

Opinion is divided among existing owners as to whether this book is rubbish or great: some think it's great as it allows you to be creative, with a little bit of help from the pros, and make your own models.  Others think it's rubbish because there aren't any specific instructions, and find that frustrating.

So if you have a LEGO free spirit then this is the book for you; if you don't, then it's probably not - you'll need to decide, but for £2.99, it's not going to be a financial train smash to find out.

Give this free delivery code a bash: FWELLB - I don't know if it's first time, or single use, only.  If it works then GREAT, if it doesn't then you'll need to pay an additional £2.80 - unless you have other things to buy and your order goes over £25, delivery is free after that.

Sweet - Levi Roots Cook book £4.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 7 March, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Sweet - Levi Roots Cook book £4.99 @ The Book PeopleIf you're a dessert and cakes person, and would like to add a new recipe book to your collection (or start one, even!) then you should take a look at Sweet by Levi Roots.  It looks rather good, as does the price: £4.99 instead of £18.99 - it's in hardback and Amazon keep selling out with it priced at £12.15!

I'm not usually a dessert person - I'm quite happy with an apple sliced into some fat free Bulgarian yoghurt (if you haven't come across Bulgarian yoghurt before, track some down, it's the best!) BUT, a couple of weeks ago I badly injured myself whilst training and am feeling VERY sorry for myself!

I was (well, still am, as much as I can) training for a competition and have torn the ligaments in my left ankle, there'll be no lower body resistance training for me for at least another four weeks, no spinning, no running, in fact - walking in anything that's not flat is a complete no-no, and stairs are a challenge.  I'm NOT HAPPY!

In times like this I turn to mooching through recipe books full of scrummy things - and I look at the pictures, that's all. I'll have to leave the actual baking and eating of all the scrummy cakes and treats in Sweet by Levi Roots, otherwise my coach would have some very choice things to say to me.

There are recipes for ice cream, some seriously amazing sounding desserts, a Maltesers Milkshake recipe, along with Butter Maple Popcorn and Apple Crisps <----- YUM!!

There aren't any reviews on the Book People site, but there are a few on Amazon, here's what one person has said about Sweet:

I have made several recipes from this book and, as with all Levi Roots recipes, they turned out well. I love this book and would recommend it to everyone. The photographs are bright and the recipe instructions are clear and, although it sounds daft, this book makes me feel full of sunshine and joy!

Try this free delivery code when you checkout - FWELLB - I don't know whether it's single-use, or first time orders, only but give it a bash; if it doesn't work then postage for a single item is only another £2.80.

Quentin Blake Book Collection £9.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 March, 2013 at 11:00 am

Quentin Blake Book Collection £9.99 @ The Book PeopleI've written about this Quentin Blake book collection once before when it was on offer at The Book People - I was tempted to buy it for my youngest book worm son then, but didn't, so I'm really tempted to buy it now!  The full list price is £59.90, but you can pick them up from The Book People for £9.99 - HURRAH!

If you're of a similar age to me, and loved reading when you were a kid, then you'll probably be awash with the same feelings of nostalgia every time you see Quentin Blake illustrations - they're just SO recognisable!  In fact, they cannot possibly be mistaken for anyone else's work.

Ten books make up this Quentin Blake Picture Book collection and each one is bound to become a firm bedtime story favourite - the downside of that is not having to read the entire collection every night...you know how it goes with favourite stories I'm sure!

There is a free delivery code floating around - it's FWELLB, but I'm not sure whether or not it applies to first time orders only (I suppose you could always sign up with a new email address, if you can be bothered - and I did NOT tell you to do that!).  If it is a one-time use only code, and you've already used it, then you'll need to pay the £2.80 single item delivery charge.

Big Maze Book £2.70 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 22 February, 2013 at 10:00 am

Big Maze Book £2.70 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are selling this Big Maze Book for £2.99 rather than its full list price of £7.99 - with a couple of codes, you'll be able to pick one up for £2.70 and get free delivery too.

I know the kids have only just gone back to school after half term, but it's time to get planning for the school Easter holiday as it's early this year.  I always loved doing maze puzzles when I was little; in fact, I still love doing them now - there's something so incredibly satisfying about finding the right path through the maze and getting to the end.

There are 50 completely different mazes to work through, the challenges get gradually more difficult as they help children develop both problem solving and visual recognition skills.

The art work is bright and colourful - so the mazes aren't just your bog standard black lines on a page which require navigating through; there are extra puzzles to solve, and challenges to complete too.

Now, about those codes:  just remember to enter WHAM and FWELLB at the checkout to get an extra 10% off and free delivery (thanks to basil3, Andius and wishihadadonkey at HUKD for the codes)

Happy Mazing!

Baby's First Christmas Buggy Buddy And Teether Pack £2.99 @ The Book People

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 15 November, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Baby's First Christmas Buggy Buddy And Teether Pack £2.99 @ The Book People

What a lovely stocking filler for baby's first Christmas is this Buggy Buddy and Teether Pack at The Book People, selling for £2.99 instead of £6.99! It's currently £4.99 at Amazon, and £5.30 at WHSmith. If you're ordering just this, then the £2.80 postage means it's cheaper to get it at Amazon, but if you're aiming at spending over £25 and getting free delivery, then it's a great price!

Baby's First Christmas Buggy Buddy and Teether Pack is a book that comes with a buggy clip so it can be attached to a car seat, pram or anything else. The star-shaped teether doesn't come with a clip, sadly, but looks like quite the chew-toy.

The colours in the book are apparently bold and bright and eye-catching, and would make a lovely gift, perfect for this time of year.
