Kadria Pregnancy And Baby Products Review

Kadria Pregnancy And Baby Products Review

Like most of us, I really enjoy pampering as much as possible. I specifically love that where ten years ago organic, natural products were expensive, exclusive and elite, today it’s easy to find decent products at completely acceptable prices – sometimes even cheaper than mainstream alternatives.

Kadria is a new product  - to me at least – and I’ve loved being lucky enough to test it.

The set consists of five products – Belly Balm, Balancing Face Oil, Baby Body Oil, Labour Oil and Baby Balm. I was sent four of the products – we didn’t get to try the labour oil – and have been using them religiously.

Body Shop Promotional Code: 50% Off Winter EssentialsUse this The Body Shop promotional code to get 50% off pots of pots of body butter. I remember seeing this code pop up around this time last year, or something like it. And I bagged about four tubs at a bargain price. With a lovely box, some tissue paper, and a few other items they made some really lovely and thoughtful presents for my friends.

  • Discount: 50%
  • Applies to: Winter Essentials
  • Promotional code: WINTER
  • Expires: 12th December 2011

To use this code, go to the Shopping Basket page and enter it in the Promotional Code box. It will be applied to your order automatically. I tested it out on the Almond Nail & Cuticle Oil, which cost £7. The code took this down to £3.50. Delivery is £3.99 on the site.

There are a large number of gorgeous sounding items in the Winter Essentials section. Something I've done for the last couple of years is to make up little gift baskets for some members of the family. I keep some of the packaging that comes through during the year - for example one item I bought around Mother's Day time came snuggled in pink shredded paper. Then I buy a few items when sales like this come up, and you can then put together a nice gift set much cheaper than you'd get in the shops (try covering little boxes in tissue paper and then wrap the whole lot up with cellophane).

There are a large number of gorgeous sounding butters on here. But. I like the smell of Cocoa butter one, and the fact that it seems to absorb quite well. I used it a lot during my pregnancy as I was rather addicted to the smell. I also quite like the whole experience of scooping it out of the pot on your finger tips too. There's something rather reassuringly old fashioned about that. And because you can skim it out on your finger tips, it is that little bit easier and faster to apply to your skin. At least, that's what I find anyway.

The Body Shop Promotional Code: 50% Off Vitamin E Moisture CreamUse this The Body Shop promotional code to get 50% off pots of Vitamin E Moisture Cream. There are times I look back and remember, vaguely, having time to do a whole beauty regime. Everyday. Now I feel like an old crone with cracking, creaking skin. Well I probably would. But when I get the time I dollop on some good old Body Shop Vitamin E cream. And it is about all the skincare time most other mums I know get too. The Vitamin E cream is our daily moisturiser, night cream, and anti-ageing all in one pot, and applied once a day if we're not so tired we just don't fall asleep with the kids fully clothed. In the middle of the bed time story.

Barbara Daly Skincare For Mums ReviewsWe got lots of lovely beauty products this week, thanks to a new range from Barbara Daly. Fact is, one thing that quickly goes out the window when you're a mum is skin care and make up. But those five minutes you might get to spend on yourself are precious, and can make a big difference to your day.

However, I only got to look longingly at them. The privilege of testing them out to see if they're really good value, or not, went to PlayPennies mum Helen.

Baby Freebies: QV Skincare Samples

by Sarah Macdonald in Freebies on 18 December, 2010 at 11:00 am

Baby Freebies: QV Skincare SamplesYou can’t beat getting something for nothing, so how do you fancy getting your hands on some FREE samples of QV Skincare?

Unless you’ve been down under to Oz, it’s unlikely you’ll have come across QV Skincare for babies before.

It’s the Aussie’s favourite moisturiser and is often recommended by dermatologists there, it was recently launched here and free samples of QV Skincare are up for grabs.

It’s was developed to help treat skin issues and maintain its health and, let’s face it, if it can do the job under the fierce glare of the Aussie sun and their climate then it’s going to have no trouble with our UK skin!

They product range includes bath oil – which is great stuff in general, if you’ve never used it before then definitely try some if it’s included in the free samples!

There’s also cream in a tube, or cream in a tub, skin lotion and body wash if you really don’t like the idea of the bath oil.

I have no idea whether you’ll get a sample of everything or just some of the QV product,s but I’m pretty sure that they’re going to be up to the job of looking after and nourishing scrumptious delicate baby skin.

Forever Natural Eco Products Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 20 October, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Forever Natural Eco Products ReviewIf you're looking for a mix and match, pick-your-own gift set for any occasion, the eco-friendly range from Forever Natural might just tick all your boxes. Forever Natural have loads of products that can be combined into one gift, stocking fillers or even replace the toys in home- made Christmas crackers.

We asked PlayPennies mum Tammy to review a gift pack for us, and she has come back with loads of good things to say:

Eco Lips Organic Lip Balm (£3.99)

Forever Natural Eco Products ReviewTammy loves the organic lip balm. She says, “This stuff is brilliant. Not only do you get lush organic lip balm but it is designed with a caribineer lid! You can just hook it onto your belt, handbag, or keys and voila! Instant lip balm anywhere you want without having to scuffle through your handbag for hours.

The Eco Lips Organic Lip Balm comes in many flavours, including mint, lemon and lime and berry. All lip balms are free of petrolaturm, parabens, sulphates and are non GMO and cruelty free. Most are SPF15, apart from the sports stick which is SPF30 – which Tammy says, “along with the clip for ski jackets and keyrings, is brilliant for runners and skiers.

EO Hand Sanitiser (£2.95 for 10ml)

The plant based alternative to chemical sanitisers, these products are based on essential oils which means they contain no synthetic ingredients, no artificial colours (the selected herbs colour the formulations naturally) or dyes or fragrances, no parabens, no synthetics and no harsh chemicals.  All bottles are recycled PET collected and re-cast into their signature blue bottles - minimalising waste in our landfills.

Each tube comes with up to 100 sprays on the 10ml bottle. Small and compact, it will fit in all handbags and is brilliant for hygienic hands when water isn’t about or you have emergency nappy change and would like more than just wipes to clean your hands,” says Tammy. She goes on, “The spray smells scrummy – minty and fresh – but it does sort of sink in fast! Some of the chemical ones I’ve used feel like they are being rubbed around a bit first whereas you need 2-4 sprays to get this to really feel like it has penetrated all the nooks and crannies. You can also get it in Lavender (not my personal favourite though) and I have to say that I prefer this to the chemical variations. They also have a gel that comes in lavender or lemon so that may be more what I prefer (in terms of spreading over hands) than the spray. Still, short of taking skin samples and testing germs on my hands, this seems to work a treat and smells lovely.”

Urban Spa Manicure or Pedicure Kit (£7.00)

Oooohhh how I love a good manicure kit, I do. This one is just lush. You get an emery board, two toe separators, one double-sided foot file, two cuticle sticks and a nail brush. It is a quality set and the separators slip nicely into my toes. They are comfy and nice to the touch. The cuticle sticks are wood and great. I love this kit. I spent hours playing around with it and my feet look fantastic. Great value for money and just a nice stocking filler.

High praise for this kit from Tammy!

Forever Natural Bamboo Back Strap (£8.00)

Forever Natural Eco Products ReviewBamboo has been around for over 4000 years and it is the fastest growing plant on earth. Bamboo production leaves virtually no damage to the soil in which it is farmed and it is one of the most sustainable renewable resources available. All the products in this range are unbleached and sustained through ecological harvesting practises.

Our mum tester Tammy loves this product too.

I have ditched my old sponge and married this. While it takes a bit of getting used to, it is unbelievably good to use. The one side has a rough jute mesh and the other is made from bamboo. Use the jute side for an awesome back scrub and the bamboo side for all over body wash. The best thing is that you have to use far less soap than you usually do. With my sponge I had to use two to three squirts of my favourite Dove body wash. With this I only use one which I share between each side. Now that’s a money saver in itself. The bamboo side is sooft sooooft soooooft. The jute side isn’t harsh but juuuust scratchy enough to make my back giggle.”

The only negative Tammy raised for this product was that after only three weeks use, she realised that the bamboo side was fraying and coming apart.

Forever Natural Bamboo Hair Turban £10.00

Tammy kind of took the words out of our mouths on this one. She says, “this I did not know what to make of. A hair turban? What’s wrong with my towel? This dude is made from soft soft bamboo and comes with instructions on how to wrap it around your head. You have a button on it so you whip it around, hook the back onto the button and, voila, your hair is all snuggled up and toasty.”

Interesting, we thought, but what's the point?

Well, Tammy informs us the Hair Turban is supposed to suck the water out so your hair dries faster without the need for a hair dryer.

I have used it every time I’ve washed my hair and have left my hair sopping wet, towel dried and damp to test the product. It works really well. The bamboo seems to suck up the damp without becoming heavy and wet itself. It’s pretty awesome. I’ve even used it on my child. She looks ever so cute in it. But it means she gets to go to bed with slightly damp hair instead of really wet hair from time to time. This sells for £10 and, really, is an utter treat for the woman in your life. It is. Really.”

And Finally...

So the final verdict on Forever Natural? Well, it is eco-friendly, cost effective and good for you, so what's not to like? We've only shown you a few of the products on offer at Forever Natural, so head on over to their website and see what you could put together for your ideal gift pack. With products that get such great reviews from our mum-tester, it might just be time to treat myself too!

Simple Deals @ Lloyds Pharmacy

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 October, 2010 at 8:00 am

Simple Deals @ Lloyds PharmacyI've always loved the Simple skincare product range, and Lloyds Pharmacy have some great Simple deals on at the moment.

Did you know that Simple have been around for 50 years?! 50 years!!

They started out in 1960 with an unperfumed, uncoloured bar of soap which was recommended by doctors for sensitive skin.

Next came their three-step cleanse, tone and moisturise products and now, now we have a huge range of things to choose from: Simple Sun, Simple Baby, Simple Derma, Simple For Men, Simple Kind To Skin, Simple Regeneration, Simple Repair and Simple Radiance to name just a few!

Do you remember the Simple advert from y e a r s ago, it's the one that really stuck in my head, where a robot arm airbrush paint spray thing sprays a beautiful white cala lily hideous colours and then squirts it with perfume? I do.

Anyway, Lloyds Pharmacy - have five pages of Simple products; most are on offer, some are not. So if you're a Simple fan then this might be a good time to stock up, this sort of thing also makes for good stocking fillers too!

Baby Freebies: Sample Pack Of QV Baby Products

Baby Freebies: Sample Pack Of QV Baby Products

Quick post! QV products are a range of skin care items, and they are giving away a free sample of their QV products for your baby!

You have to email your postal details to the email address on the above page. This freebie was tweeted by the website owner on the 16th of April 2010, so should hopefully arrive soon! I had a quick google search to see if anyone had received this freebie yet, but couldn't find anyone.

Here's a bit of a blurb about the QV products:

Specifically developed to help treat skin issues and maintain skin health, QV is the no 1 moisturiser in Australia - a country known for having one of the harshest climates in the world. QV is the moisturiser most frequently recommened by dermatologists in Australia. QV is launching in the UK… share the secret…

UPDATE: I got a bounceback from my email, it appears her mailbox is full -will have to try again soon.

Free Salcura Samples

by Emma Kelly in Freebies on 10 April, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Free Salcura Samples

Salcura is a brand of natural skin care products, and they are offering free samples of their items, which apparently are great for psoriasis and dermatological conditions.

Here's what you will get:

  • 1 x Intensive Spray Sample
  • 1 x Gentle Spray Sample
  • 1 x Zeoderm Sachet
  • 1 x Body Hydrator Sachet
  • 1 x Hand Hydrator Sachet
  • 1 x Face Hydrator Sachet

I have just signed up for my freebies. It says that they may contact you again to see if you are satisified… they will probably offer to sell you some at that point! But you can unsubscribe at that stage if you want.

Some of the users in the older HUKD thread are a bit sceptical of this offer, with Mascherano saying, "Classic fake science snake oil product." But there were also a few people who have used this product and commented on favourable results, such as:

liannehardman: I have used it on my baby daughter who had bad eczema all over her face; the creams from the doctors were useless & full of chemicals!

lotusflower: i used to use this on my daughter who suffered with eczema, the results were amazing!

As a long-term psoriasis sufferer myself, I am willing to try anything especially when it is free, snake oil or not!

Review: Dr Bronner's

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Reviews on 6 April, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Review: Dr Bronner's

Dr Bronner’s Magic Soap is the USA’s No. 1 selling natural soap brand and a leader in organic and fair trade skincare. Famous fans reportedly include Drew Barrymore, Sandra Bullock and Eminem, and make-up artist Bobbi Brown championed the brand on The Oprah Show, saying: “It’s probably the finest soap in the universe. I’m obsessed with it. I cannot get enough of it!”

Now Dr Bronner's is lathering its way into British homes and hearts. So what's so special about it? The magic of Dr. Bronner’s is its affordability and versatility, with 18 uses from 1 bottle of liquid soap at £4.99 per 236ml bottle. Best used with a cloth, towel, loofah or sponge you can use it to clean your body, your mouth & teeth, your fruit & vegetables, your bathroom and kitchen, your clothes and even your pets!

It's available in 8 main varieties, the original being the famous tingly peppermint - Review: Dr Bronner's “nature's own unsurpassed fragrant Deodorant!” - followed by Lavender, Eucalyptus, Citrus, Almond, Rose, unscented Baby Mild and Tea Tree which can even be used to treat minor cuts.

The soaps are most popular for at-home washing, but are also the soap of choice for many campers and hikers. They contain no synthetic foaming agents, thickeners, preservatives, fragrances, dyes or whiteners and use 100% post consumer recycled (PCR) cylinder bottles and paper labels. Completely biodegradable, the soaps are made with certified Fair Trade and organic ingredients sourced from India, Ghana, Palestine, Israel, and Sri Lanka.

Dr Bronner’s tell us that they take their organic credentials very seriously unlike many “natural” body care companies who masquerade their synthetically derived ingredients by using floral water as the main natural ingredient, while the functional ingredients are petrochemical derived and thus non-sustainable.

The 100% Pure Castile Soap recipe used in Dr. Bronner’s soap is a simple, ecological, vegetable based formulation, named after the Castile region of Spain where olive oil soaps where invented long ago. The high foaming lather of the soap is from its high coconut oil content, which makes a more luxurious and rich lather compared to any detergent formulation commonly found even in “natural stores.”

Review: Dr Bronner's Dr. Bronner’s superfat their soaps with organic hemp and jojoba oils for a milder, smoother lather and use natural plant-derived vitamin E and citric acid to protect freshness. Apart from flavouring organic essential oils such peppermint, the base soap ingredients are Water, Saponified Organic Coconut, Organic Palm and Organic Olive Oils, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Essential Oils, Citric Acid, Vitamin E.

So what did our reviewer think? The first item we passed their way was Dr Bronner's Organic Baby Balm. Here's what they had to say:

"Loved the packaging.  The sliding lid is fantastic for taking around in the nappy bag.  The product dosen't feel greasy and absorbs very quickly.  Perfect for our baby's dry skin.  Even I have used this as a moisturiser on my elbows and they feel great now!"

Our reviewer loved this item and although they thought it was a little on the expensive side at £3.95, they  felt the price was justified because of the organic nature of the item.

The second item we reviewed was liquid soap from Dr Bronner's. Our reviewer felt Review: Dr Bronner's the travel size of the packaging made it perfect for an overnight bag. But how did it work?

"I couldn't bear to use it as a toothpaste replacer - too soapy.  I used it as a shower gel using a sponge.  Bottle was not flexible enough to squirt it out like a shower gel, so I would have liked to see a product that was more suited to a shower gel application. At £5 for 236ml I felt this was expensive for an item that I do not really use except for in the shower.  I did try some in the bath for bathing my daughter and it seemed OK."

Finally, the pure castile soap. Our reviewer, a Dad, reckoned this feels really good for cleaning the face. He even tried it out for shaving:

"Had a shave with the pure castile soap and a shave brush and found my face was very clean although I had to moisturise afterwards as my skin had dried out.  The foam was softer than a traditional shave foam but thought it was a good alternative.  My face felt a lot cleaner aswell."

At £3.50 for a 140g bar our reviewer felt this was reasonably priced, albeit more expensive than their usual brand.

Review: Dr Bronner's "I would normally buy a brand which is about a third of the price but the Dr Bronner bar does not break down like my usual brand. I would be happy to pay for a better product like Dr Bronner's that is natural and organic, and I feel safe that this is a safer product to be bathing my child in."

With each of the soaps, our Daddy reviewer would have preferred a scent but did acknowledge that they seemed like very good quality soaps, despite the lack of scent.

Dr. Bronner’s is available UK nationwide including Liberty, select Waitrose stores and leading health shops including Fresh & Wild, Planet Organic and Whole Foods. To find your nearest stockist call 0845 072 5825 or visit www.kinetic4health.co.uk

Review: Wild Yam & Soya Cream

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Reviews on 19 February, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Review: Wild Yam & Soya Cream

Yin Yang is a chemical-free personal skincare range. Their products are fragranced with subtle essential oils and use paraben and colourant-free all-natural formulations to make them a gentle alternative to modern, chemical-based well-being remedies. The Yin Yang range includes products to relieve aching joints, sooth sensitive scalps and ease hormonal fluctuations.

Review: Wild Yam & Soya CreamYin Yang Skincare was 'born' in 1973 when founder Katie May formulated a range of pure plant-based products. Katie lives on a beautiful Oxfordshire farm and develops her products from her 1.5 acre herb garden. She is especially passionate about natural care and keeping the pH balance of the body gently in line.

Yin Yang are celebrating 36 years as Britain’s original green wellbeing brand.  Launched at Cranks iconic "green" store and restaurant on Carnaby Street, London in 1973, Yin Yang Skincare is a favourite natural skin care range among early advocates of chemical-free botanical products.

For products to help whilst pregnant, Katie's Wild Yam & Soya Cream (£15.00 for 50ml) contains gentle fermented soya protein which form the same amino acids as natural progesterone, supposedly helping to balance the mood and prevent stretch marks.

Review: Wild Yam & Soya CreamYin Yang Wild Yam and Soya Cream is recommended for use by women during hormonal fluctuations, PMT, post-natal depression and during and after the menopause. It uses gently fermented soya protein, rich in 20 of the amino acids important to cellular regeneration, and contains energy-boosting extracts of wild yam fortified with essential oils of carrot. The cream is fragranced with essential oil of geranium, a traditional remedy used by women to ease the symptoms of hormonal fluctuations. To use you simply massage into the skin twice daily, particularly around the abdomen and at pulse points.

Review: Wild Yam & Soya CreamI'm going to admit I was little bit dubious when my sample of Wild Yam and Soya Cream arrived. Apart from the fact that it sounds like something I might be more inclined to eat than put on my skin, the hint of geranium in the scent, though subtle, put me off just a little. It's not that it's unpleasant, it's just not a scent I naturally associate with skincare. But cccording to the packaging this product can help boost energy levels and improve your mood, which is how I came to find myself liberally smothered in the stuff on a particularly grey and sluggish Monday morning.

All I can really say is Wow. I'm a total convert. I love this stuff. So much so that it's actually replaced my (much more expensive) daily face cream. I'm not even sure that you're really supposed to use it on the face but there is something about this cream that's deliciously addictive. The texture is particularly appealing. It's thicker and more luxuriant than my usual face cream but it absorbs really well with absolutely no hint of a greasy residue. (I often find I feel the need to wash my hands when I've applied face cream but with this I happily used any leftover cream to smooth into my hands and soothe over my pulse points.)

I think I was partly dubious about the idea that a cream could improve my mood Review: Wild Yam & Soya Creamand perhaps it's just the placebo effect but all the same, there was something supremely comforting about this product. Applying it in the morning became something an indulgent ritual for me and I loved taking a few moments to let it work its magic. This little pot is a pick-me-up that I will be sad to part with.

Other products in the Yin Yang skincare range include Joint Cream (£16.50 for 50ml) which is scented with the essential oil of limes and intended to help ease tired or over-worked joints and muscles. It sounds like just the thing to indulge in after a run or a session in the gym. I also love the sound of the Rich Skin Food (£19.50 for 50ml) which is light enough to be used as a daily moisturiser but has natural restorative properties, as its name suggests.

Review: Wild Yam & Soya CreamThe Yin Yang range definitely isn't the cheapest skincare line out there  but if you're looking for something a little bit different to give as a special gift to a new or expectant Mum, I think the Wild Yam and Soya Cream is ideal.  Just be prepared to hand over details of stockists too, as your recipient may well find herself addicted. It's the closest thing I know to happiness in a pot.

For stockists please call 01993 822 800 or visit www.yinyangskincare.co.uk.
