Role Play Toys

Little Tikes Stage Two Play Kitchen £55.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 February, 2013 at 11:00 am

Little Tikes Stage Two Play Kitchen £55.99 @ ArgosIf you're in the market for a play kitchen then you should take a look at this Little Tikes Stage Two play kitchen - Argos are selling it for £55.99, rather than the full £99.99.

I still have a loathing for play kitchens that aren't gender neutral; they still make me want to poke the play forks in my eyes, but I haven't written about one for a while and this one looks like a pretty good deal, as it will grow with your child as they grow - unusual for a play kitchen.

This Little Tikes Stage Two play kitchen is suitable for little ones ages 18 months and older, and features an oven, a fridge, a microwave, a sink and a shape-sorting saucepan - I love the inclusion of a shape-sorting toy!

It  features electronic cooking sounds and can be reconfigured when your child gets to around two'ish: Stage 1 is just the right height for pre-schoolers, and Stage 2 provides your growing youngster with a little bit 'more' in the kitchen role play department.

Two AA batteries are required, which aren't included, and the Little Tikes Stage 2 play kitchen measures approximately:  H103 x W66 x D31cm.

If your local Argos store doesn't have any stock, use www.icheckstock.co.uk to help you track some down - it's far less of a task using their search facility, than the one directly on the Argos item page.

Wonderland Magical Garden £20 @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 11 February, 2013 at 10:00 am

Wonderland Magical Garden £20 @ MothercareMothercare are selling this Wonderland Magical Garden for £20, rather than £40, until 25 February.

Well here's something I've not seen before - I'm a little bit behind with my fairy play things knowledge: my 17-year-old daughter isn't into that sort of thing any more, strangely enough, and as for almost seven-year-old Edward is more into Bewilderwood stories than girly fairy things.

If you've got a little girly-girl then the Wonderland Magical Garden will definitely appeal to them: there's a flower table for the fairies to sit at, on toadstool stools, a slide they can slide down and a hammock for relaxing in at the end of a hard fairy day.

The Wonderland Magical Garden is made from wood (hurrah, I like wooden toys) and is going to be just great for imaginative play - the only downside is there aren't any fairies included, you're going to have to buy those separately, sorry about that.

Collection from your local Mothercare store is free, or you can choose the home delivery option which will cost you an additional £2.95.

Barbie Tea Set £5.91 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 8 February, 2013 at 11:00 am

Barbie Tea Set £5.91 @ AmazonIf you're in the market for a little Barbie tea set then you should head over to Amazon - they're selling this one for £5.91 instead of £13.99.

Oooh I always find it so hard to write about things like this Barbie tea set - not only do I loathe all things Barbie, but I always much preferred making tea with real tea sets...pretending just seemed like such a waste of time, AND didn't earn you any brownie points either!

This Barbie tea set features a tray, a tea pot and cups with saucers (I'm glad about that as it wouldn't be much of a tea set without those things!), along with spoons, a milk jug and a sugar bowl.

There are a couple of reviews, which have this to say about the Barbie tea set:

My wee girl plays with this for ages along with her toy kitchen great role play toy she thinks she is all grown up

My grand-daughter has lots of fun with this, not very big but ideal for a 5 year old. Would recommend

All of the usual Amazon delivery options apply here: free delivery with the SuperSaver option, if you're happy to wait a few days, or a few extra of your hard-earned Great British pounds if you're not!

Wooden Dolls House With 50 Pieces £29.99 @ Toys R Us

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 December, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Wooden Dolls House With 50 Pieces £29.99 @ Toys R UsThis wooden doll's house has to be one of my bargains of the year:  it was originally £99.99, then reduced down to £49.99 and then down further to £29.99.

I've written about wooden doll's houses plenty of times before and even though I'm not a fan of anything 'dolly', I really think you should take a look at this one - it would make a lovely Christmas present for a little girl who is into playing house.

It features four stories, has a hinged front and removable roof.  It comes with 50 bits and pieces too, ranging from chairs to tables, bunk beds, shelves and chest of drawers, along with dolls to go with it - well you can't have a doll's house without dolls to live in it can you!

In case you're wondering whether or not you'll have space for this in your home, the dimensions of it are: 55 (w) x 70 (h) x 20 (d) cm.

You can arrange to collect your wooden doll's house in-store for free, or you can pay an additional £4.95 and have it delivered to your full size home.

Happy doll housing!

Chad Valley Colour In Playhouse £9.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 14 November, 2012 at 9:00 am

Chad Valley Colour In Playhouse £9.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Chad Valley Colour In Playhouse for half price - £9.99 instead of £19.99.

If you've already got kids of a certain age you'll know how the lure of playing with/in a cardboard box can trump even the most expensive toy - it's such a strange phenomenon but one that must be programmed into our DNA somehow.

I loved playing in huge cardboard boxes when I small; my daughter had lots of fun pretending massive boxes were either dream houses or boats and my youngest son, Edward, always requested cardboard box rockets to sit in.

This Chad Valley Colour In Playhouse takes cardboard box play to a new level - it features pre-printed butterflies, flowers, windows and doors and your young cardboard box fan can colour in their playhouse with the 12 jumbo marker pens that come with it.

The Chad Valley Colour In Playhouse measures 88cm x 88cm x 72cm when it's all folded up and put together and is suitable for youngsters three years and older.

Happy playhouse colouring!

Small Picnic Tea Play Set £8 @ John Lewis

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 8 October, 2012 at 10:00 am

Small Picnic Tea Play Set £8 @ John LewisIf you're in the market for a small tea picnic play set, you should head over to John Lewis - they're selling a very cute one for just £8.

I had a tea set when I was little - it was plastic and I used to pack it into the little back carrier, pannier type thing on the back of my little bike and would ride off on great adventures, stopping off for 'tea and cake' along the way.  'Along the way' was actually only around the little cul-de-sac we lived in, but according to my imagination I'd ridden miles!

This little picnic tea play set features a little wicker picnic basket and red ceramic accessories, decorated with white polka dots - there's a tea pot, milk pot, sugar bowl, cups, saucers and spoons.

If you live locally to a John Lewis store you can pop in and collect your small picnic tea play set for free, the day after you order it; failing that, standard home deliver will cost you an additional £3 and take up to five working days arrive.

My First Kitchen £6 @ Amazon/The Entertainer

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 5 October, 2012 at 11:00 am

My First Kitchen £6 @ Amazon/The EntertainerAre you in the market for a play kitchen?  If you are, you can pick up a My First Kitchen, via Amazon, from The Entertainer (or directly from them) for £6 instead of its usual £20.

Now (for all those who loathe play kitchens as much as I do) forks, to poke in your eyes, at the ready; here we go...

This Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen is pink (what else!), stands at 60cms tall and features a hob, toaster, sink and an an oven complete with opening door - well, it would be a pretty useless oven without one!

It also comes with 14 accessories: two plates, two cups, salt and pepper shakers, two knives, two forks (ooooh goody, where are my eyes!), two spoons, a spatular and a frying pan.

For all my gender-stereotyping-hatred of play kitchens, at least this one attempts to redress the balance by mentioning dads in the cooking equation, and I quote, "Little ones who love copying mum and dad will cook up a storm in My First Kitchen."

The price of this My First Kitchen is exactly the same whether you decide to order one via Amazon, or directly from The Entertainer - £6 plus an additional £2.99 for delivery.

However, if you order directly from The Entertainer, and live close to an Entertainer/The Toy Shop store (I wish they had a single identity!), you'll have the option to collect it for free.

Little Tikes Cozy Petrol Pump £13.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 October, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Little Tikes Cozy Petrol Pump £13.99 @ AmazonFive days ago I told you how you could get a GREAT price on a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe using Mothercare's 'Price Match Promise' - Amazon were selling Cozy Coupes for £34.99, Mothercare will match that price and take off an additional 20%.

Just to give you a quick heads up, before I tell you about this Little Tikes Cozy Pumper, Amazon are now selling the Cozy Coupe for £29.99 which means you'll be able to pick one up from Mothercare for just £24 - the full 'how to take advantage of Mothercare's 'Price Match Promise'' is HERE (don't forget the Amazon price is lower now).

SO, about the Little Tikes Cozy Petrol Pump - well, Amazon are selling it for £13.99 instead of its full price of £19.99.

I don't know what it is about putting petrol in cars that appeals to kids, but it does! When I was little I always wanted to help my mum put the petrol in the car; when my teenagers were young they wanted to too, and as soon as they were old enough at 16, they did - then they found out it isn't always easy not to end up with something pounds and a penny to pay.

If your little one is already the proud owner of a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe, they're going to love this Little Tikes Cozy Petrol Pump to go with it - instead of pretending to pull up to the pump to put fuel in their coupe, they'll be able to do it for 'real'.

With the help of  two AAA batteries (which are not included) the Little Tikes Cozy Petrol Pump makes car noises - glugging, beeping car horn and engine sounds - and also features a petrol nozzle and hose, cut-out credit card and a place to swipe it - well you can't have petrol and not pay for it, much as we'd all love that!

Happy petrol pumping!

Rosebud Village Tree House £20 @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 September, 2012 at 11:00 am

Rosebud Village Tree House £20 @ MothercareMothercare are selling this Rosebud Village Tree House for half price, £20 instead of £40.

Despite not being the sort of girl who ever wanted to play with dolls or dolls in their houses, this Rosebud Village Tree House looks quite lovely.

It's made from wood (always guaranteed to win brownie points with me) and is a very pretty pastel pink colour with dainty flowers painted on it.  The roof is a very pale green, again decorated with a flower design, and is in the shape of flower petals.

There's a slide, a see-saw (I still love playing on see-saws!) and there's also a flower-shaped table and two stools for the two wooden doll residents to sit at and have tea, with an additional couple of stools for guests.

The living quarters of the house are accessible via a rope ladder and there's a swing too, for swinging away during long, lazy evenings after dinner.

Delivery within the UK is free, as is in-store collection and there's even an international delivery option if you happen to be a visiting us whilst overseas - I have no idea how much it costs, but it's a service that's there if you need it.

Disney Princess Ultimate Play Kitchen £64.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 August, 2012 at 10:00 am

Disney Princess Ultimate Play Kitchen £64.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Disney Princess Ultimate Play Kitchen for less than half price - £64.99 instead of its whopping £199.99 full price.

Play kitchens are usually enough to make me want to run, screaming, for the hills whilst simultaneously sticking their plastic forks in my eyes - they trigger every gender stereotype fighting instinct when me when they're fluffy, pink and overtly girly.

This Disney Princess Ultimate Play Kitchen is fluffy, pink and nothing less than 100% girly BUT it's a beast of a play kitchen and I'm sure there are plenty of little girlies out there who would love to own one; it's the sort of 'big' item that would be a main birthday or Christmas pressie.

It features realistic cooking sounds and a 'talking play phone' so your little chef can chat whilst she cooks (someone please save me!).  There's a musical cook book and lots of Disney character accessories such as a Mrs Potts tea pot - I loved Mrs Potts from Beauty and the Beast.

You can choose to collect your Disney Princess Ultimate Play Kitchen, for free, from your nearest Argos store that has it in stock OR, you can pay £4.95 for home delivery.

Zanussi Play Kitchen £29.99 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 June, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Zanussi Play Kitchen £29.99 @ TescoI was going to tell you about the Hello Kitty Play Kitchen that's on sale at Tesco for £15, instead of £45, but I think I might actually lose the will to live if I write about the pink plastic-fantastic monstrosity again.

I don't have anything against play kitchens, per say, just the ones with subtle (or not so subtle) undertones of 'kitchens are for girls and must learn their place in them from the earliest age possible!'

So to redress the balance and to let the boys get in on some play kitchen action - my youngest son loved playing at being a chef when he was a little bit younger than he is now - I'm going to highlight this very masculine-not-a-hint-of-pink-to-be-seen Zanussi play kitchen instead.

If I was going to buy a play kitchen then this one would be it - it's very stainless steel looking, rather like my own grown up kitchen, and has everything a play kitchen should:

  • A sink with mixer tap
  • A fridge with water dispenser in the door (I don't think it really dispenses water)
  • An oven and grill
  • A hob and hot plate with extractor hood above
  • A toaster, complete with toast
  • Storage shelves and various cooking utensils and kitchen paraphernalia too

It makes realistic sounds, which require 3 AA batteries to actually work, and is suitable for budding chefs aged three years and over.

Happy playing in a not-pink play kitchen; hurrah!

Graco Doll Playset £10 @ Littlewoods

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 June, 2012 at 9:00 am

Graco Doll Playset £10 @ LittlewoodsIf you have a girly-girl who loves nothing more than playing 'mum' then you might want to pop over to Littlewoods and take a look at the Graco Doll Playset they have on sale - its original full price was £31, it's now available for just £10.

I was never a dolly person, preferring to play with cars and Star Wars figures, so I always find it very difficult to write about deals like this Graco Doll Playset - I'd rather poke my eyes out than watch little girls playing at being mummy.

My little great-niece has lots of doll things and is very girly; a couple of Christmases ago she got a Baby Born something or other and asked me to help her change her baby's nappy - everyone else was MOST amused to see my squirm through every second of it!

Anyway, that's enough of that: what do  you get for your £10?

Well you get a stroller that folds flat, a travel bag and a changing mat, a baby gym, a potty, a baby monitor and various other little bits of baby paraphernalia - you don't get a doll with it though.

The Graco Doll Playset is suitable for little girls aged three or older and standard 48-hour delivery is free.

Wooden Dolls House With 100 Pieces £49.99 @ Toys R Us

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 June, 2012 at 10:00 am

Wooden Dolls House With 100 Pieces £49.99 @ Toys R UsToys R Us are selling this Wooden Doll's House with 100 pieces for half price - £49.99 rather than £99.99.

I was never a doll or doll's house sort of girl - but if yours is, then this dolls house with its 100 pieces could just make her day.

My friend used to have a doll's house.  I was always fascinated with it but never wanted one - I seem to remember it had little table lamps that worked, but I'm hauling memories out of my brain from over 35 years ago so I might just be imaging a lot of it.

This Wooden Doll's House has four storeys, a hinged front and a removable roof; you're going to have to do a bit of self-building before the new owner can move all the furniture and bits and pieces in, but it shouldn't be anything too taxing or require a diploma from the guild of Master Builders.

Now, free delivery only kicks in at £50 so Toys R Us have been rather sneaky keeping this Wooden Doll's House just a penny below that - if you can't arrange to collect it from your nearest store then add something super cheap to your order to bring it over £50, or you can just pay the additional £4.95 and be done with it.

Dream Town Gasketts Garage And Workshop £14.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 June, 2012 at 10:00 am

Dream Town Gasketts Garage And Workshop £14.99 @ Home Bargains

I've written about this Dream Town Gaskett's Garage and Workshop - it's on sale at Home Bargains for £14.99 instead of £29.99.

If you have a little one who loves role play games, loves riding on their ride-on toys then I think they're going to love this - it's the sort of thing I would have spent hours playing with as a child.

Don't go near the gender stereotype thing, show me a child who doesn't want to be like their parents driving around, going to the petrol station, putting petrol in etc.

OR maybe it's just me and my, now, teenagers - for years they longed to be able to put petrol in the car and the moment they were old enough they were out of the car, on the forecourt, petrol pump in hand...shame they still aren't so keen to pay for it too!

But I digress - I've always had a thing about playing with cars, winning races on little ride-on toys and going on to make a four-wheeler go-kart from bits and pieces salvaged from the rubbish dump (back in the day when it was cool to do that sort of thing) with my dad.

Imagination is wonderful thing and it's amazing what you can dream up as a child but, you know, a REAL garage like this Dream Town Gaskett's Garage and Workshop would have been the icing on the proverbial role-play cake.

If you have a Home Bargains local to you then you can arrange to collect your Dream Town Gaskett's Garage and Workshop for free, otherwise you'll pay up to £2.99 for delivery to your home.

Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword Play Set £9.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 May, 2012 at 9:00 am

Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword Play Set £9.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword play set for half price, £9.99 instead of £19.99.

It's amused me, greatly, that someone felt the need to make it clear that the sword included in the Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword play set is indeed a FOAM sword - you can imagine the board meeting discussion can't you...

"I really think we need to make it clear the sword is foam.  You know, just in case someone misunderstands, expects to receive a real sword and then complains in the comments!"  The same concerns clearly didn't extend to the Knight's Castle element - so just to clarify, you're not getting a REAL castle either *grin*

What you'll get is a play tent castle that features a fold down door and peep through windows, along with a foam sword for slaying (presumably) pretend dragons.  It's suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and wannabe knights aged three years or older.

You can arrange to collect your Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword play set in-store for free (if your nearest Argos shops have stock) or you can pay £5.95 for next day home delivery.

Little Tikes Baby Born Cookin' Around Sounds Kitchen £29.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 April, 2012 at 11:00 am

Little Tikes Baby Born Cookin' Around Sounds Kitchen £29.99 @ Home BargainsHome Bargains are selling this Little Tikes Baby Born Cookin' Around Sounds Kitchen for £29.99 rather than £79.99.

If you're a regular PlayPennies reader you might have gathered I'm not a fan of play kitchens - it comes from the fact they're usually pink and aimed at girls and, quite frankly, get the men in the kitchen I say! - and would rather stick forks in my eyes than write about another one.

BUT this one looks pretty cool, if you're into the whole play kitchen thing.

It's round, so more than one young chef can play at the same time, and it features various electronic cooking sounds.  When you put a pot or pan on the hob you'll hear boiling sounds, frying sounds, popcorn popping sounds, along with a timer ticking and the bell to let you know you're food is done.

It also comes with eight accessories: an attachable baby seat (you'll have to provide your own baby doll), table area, microwave cooking centre, sink, refrigerator and lots of storage.

You can arrange to collect your Little Tikes Baby Born Cookin' Around Sounds Kitchen in-store, or you can have it delivered to your home for around a fiver.

Happy play cooking!

Hello Kitty Kitchen With Kettle And Toaster £24.00 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 7 April, 2012 at 8:00 am

Hello Kitty Kitchen With Kettle And Toaster £24.00 @ TescoTesco are selling this Hello Kitty Kitchen, with kettle and toaster, for £24 instead of its full-priced £60.

Play kitchens - I know kids love them but they just make me want to poke forks in my eyes, especially plastic-fantastic pink ones like this Hello Kitty kitchen.  But you can't argue that £24 rather than £60 isn't a good deal if you're in the market for a play kitchen.

The Hello Kitty kitchen has a pink Hello Kitty cooker, a white worktop above and a sink for the dishes.  There's a shelf for pots and pans, hooks to hang utensils on and a drawer under the oven for extra storage.

The Hello Kitty kitchen is suitable for little girls (I can't imagine anyone buying this for their son, no matter how much we try to abandon gender stereotypes) aged three years and older and requires 3AA batteries - this is so the toast actually pops up out of the toaster (ooooh, I fancy toast now!) and allows the hob to make sizzling pan sounds.

You can arrange to collect your Hello Kitty kitchen, not forgetting the kettle and toaster, in-store for free OR you can now pay just £3 for standard delivery.  HURRAH!!  Well done Tesco, it's about time there were more options other than the £5 next-day!

Kids Tool Carrycase £5.97 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 14 February, 2012 at 8:00 am

Kids Tool Carrycase £5.97 @ AmazonIf you have a budding DIYer in your family then might I suggest you pay Amazon a quick visit and take a look at this kid's Tool Carrycase - it's currently on sale for £5.97 rather than £8.99.

Even though I'm a girl, I do have a bit of a 'thing' for tools generally considered the domain of men; the prospect of a new drill with lots of shiny drill bits just does something for me - strange, but true!

Perhaps it comes from my childhood days gone by when I loved helping out with DIY 'stuff'; I'm pretty sure I wasn't actually much help, but I thoroughly enjoyed banging nails into things and generally being 'handy'.

This Tool Carrycase would have been a great gift for me as a child - it would have kept me out of the grown-up tool box but totally satisfied my love of building, banging and putting things together.

Thirteen pieces are crammed into this Tool Carrycase (I'm not entirely sure how they've managed that!) and includes: a workbench top and legs, a saw, one set square ruler, a wrench, hammer and screwdriver, along with two nuts, bolts and pegs; awesome.

There won't be any additional delivery charges to pay on your kid's Tool Carrycase if you choose the SuperSaver delivery option, which usually takes around three to five working days.

Pintoy Doll's Buggy £29.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Pintoy Doll's Buggy £29.99 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this Pintoy doll's buggy for £29.99, rather than its full £37.99 retail price - it's also an Amazon Deal of the Week so this price is guaranteed until 11.59pm tomorrow night; marvellous!

If I lapse into calling the Pintoy doll's buggy a Pintoy doll's 'pram', it's because it looks like a pram to me - a buggy is a pushchair or stroller in my language.

Anyway, whether you call it a buggy or a pram, it looks SO much nicer than the cheap plastic tat versions you can get for pushing dolls around in.

I'm not, and have never been, a fan of playing with dolls and I tend to shy away buying anything 'dolly' for any of the little girls in my life BUT, you know, I'd actually consider this Pintoy dolls buggy!

It's elegant and has a touch of class about it; it's made from wood and rubber that come from replenishable sources and also comes with a pillow and blanket for keeping 'dolly' warm and cosy.

Your Pintoy doll's buggy doesn't require any self assembly, so you can put your Allen keys away, and is suitable for little girls aged three years and older.

Happy dolly pushing!

Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen £5 @ The Entertainer

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 10:00 am

Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen £5 @ The EntertainerThe Entertainer are selling this Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen for a staggeringly cheap £5, rather than its full retail price of £20.

Even though it's 'poke forks in my eyes' time again - I really do loathe pink plastic play kitchens, wooden ones in non gender specific colours I can just about 'do' - this is THE cheapest I've ever seen this Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen so I feel it would be remiss of me, and against the PlayPennies principles, for me not to tell you about it.

So (deep breath) here we go...

The Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen features a hob, a toaster, a sink for doing the washing up (make the most of your little ones wanting to do that, even if it is just pretend, because when they hit 14 they won't want to do it anymore!) and an oven complete with opening door.

I'm glad about the opening door because an oven with a door that doesn't open is a pretty useless oven, in my opinion.  The Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen also comes with 14 kitchen accessories.

If you have an Entertainer local to you then you can collect your Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen for free, otherwise standard home delivery is going to cost you an addition £3.95 - even with postage this is still a GREAT deal for a little play kitchen.
