Discount Music CDs @ Reader’s Digest

Reader’s Digest is having a little bit of a sale on their music CDs this month and many of the titles have been reduced to as little as £3.99 each. There is enough variety here to tempt most people so take a peek and see if there is anything you like.

The CD sets that have been reduced to £3.99 are: The Very Best of Andy Williams (down from £29.99), Tunes of Glory (down from £34.99), Classic Willie Nelson, The Very Best of Kiri Te Kanawa, Great Band Dance Singers, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Songbook, New Year’s Day Concert, Chopin – A Celebration, and Elaine Paige – The Definitive Collection.

Among these low price CDs you’ll also find others that are down from their usual upper £20s to as little as £4.99 or £9.99, depending on the album and the sale. You should be able to find quite a few CDs to bolster your music collection or give as gifts, and you can get about 6 of them for half of what you would have paid for one of them before the sale!

My Favourite Nursery Rhymes And Tales £5.99 @ Reader’s Digest

My Favourite Nursery Rhymes And Tales £5.99 @ Reader’s Digest

Series of nursery rhyme books is available from Reader’s Digest for £5.99 reduced from £26.99.

Illustrated by Tony Ross, who has been illustrating books for adults and children for over 30 years, this three-volumed box set of classic nursesry rhymes and tales brings cherished favourites vividly to life for a new young audience.

According to Reader’s Digest, “The wonderful comic detail in his work makes this a collection that will never fail to enchant and amuse. Whether read aloud and shared, or enjoyed alone by budding readers, these are books that will be treasured for many years to come.

These stories and rhymes come with an accompanying CD which will help children recognise words as they relate them to pictures and sounds.

There’s no indication of what’s in these books, but the visible illustrations show Red Ridinghood, the dish and spoon running away together, a duck I can’t identify and the crows flying out the pie, so it’ll be your standard stories, retold and illustrated humorously, apparently!

The Pilates Bible £7.99 @ Reader’s Digest

I am a firm fan of Pilates. It really makes you work hard but the results are fantastic. It is one of the few exercise regimes that also is quite gentle on my bad arm which means I can get a solid workout for longer. Reader’s Digest has reduced the Pilates Bible down from £19.99 to only £7.99 so a perfect reason to try this exercise out.

Sesame Street Old School Series 1 & 2 £14.99 @ Reader’s Digest

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 28 March, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Sesame Street Old School Series 1 & 2 £14.99 @ Reader’s Digest

This is a pretty nifty little deal from Reader’s Digest. They’ve reduced the Sesame Street Old School Series 1 & 2 down from £34.99 to only £14.99. That’s a really cool discount of £20 off the original price. Nice.

This is a great kit for introducing your kids to the magic of Sesame Street and the discs are awesome. Each DVD has the EYES of one of the Sesame Street characters and will probably be as amusing as the shows themselves, for a while at least.

There are six DVDs in the set and includes all the unforgettable Sesame Street characters including Big Bird, The Cookie Monster and Kermit the Frog. It has a mixture of stories, games and cartoons and these programmes are a great way of bringing numbers and letters to life with your kids. Educational fun at its most memorable and, I think, its finest.

The Full Life Repair Kit Review

Have you ever looked at your face in the mirror and wondered where all the wrinkles have come from? Or stood up and groaned at the aches and pains that flare up as you rise? Well, we all hate growing old and we dislike the frailties that come with ageing even more. Enter the Full Life Repair Kit, a book dedicated to helping you undo the damage you have done to your body over the years.

When I got this book I was delighted. It was something I wanted to try out as I am tired of feeling flat and tired. The book starts off brilliantly with an intro that makes a lot of sense and flings out a ton of great facts and figures. It is an inspiring start.

The book doesn’t pull any punches though. Don’t expect to be told that 20 years of smoking and not exercising is going to vanish in a puff of healthy, erm, smoke. Do expect to be given solid advice that is grounded in plenty of research and that makes a lot of intellectual sense.

Some of the facts and figures are scary. Like the fact that in your 40s you are more likely to die of cancer than from an accident. And that a lack of exercise means a shorter life. However, the book is filled with positive reinforcement, clever ideas, great tools and clever input to keep you going.

I have found this to be an invaluable resource on my road to great health and I am definitely going to recommend this to anyone who wants to reinvigorate their lives and their bodies. It would make a lovely Mother’s Day present or a treat for yourself.

The book is on sale at Reader’s Digest for £5.99 instead of the usual £26.99 which is a fab deal!

Mother’s Day Ideas And Deals @ Reader’s Digest

Mother’s Day Ideas And Deals @ Reader’s Digest

Reader’s Digest has a shop and this shop has lots of discounts that I really enjoy. I had no idea that they did this until recently and now I visit it all the time. Yesterday I uncovered a bunch of ace cooking deals and today I am listing the products that I think would make lovely Mother’s Day presents.

The one thing I tend to find very irritating about Mother’s Day is the tendency of most stores to suddenly put things like vacuum cleaners and cook books and cooking utensils in window displays and somehow pawn these off as presents we would like. Does this mean that a mother wants to be stuck in the kitchen on Mother’s Day? I think not…

Well, this sentiment excludes being left alone for happy hours while baking something fabulous for fun, obviously…

Anyway, so I hunted for deals that were about mum relaxing or learning or having fun. The first is the Russell Hobbs filter coffee maker down to £24.99 instead of £69.99. Who doesn’t need a scrummy cup of coffee in the morning? Then there is the book Furthermore by Judi Dench for reading with the coffee or a three DVD set with Pride & Prejudice/Atonement/Sense & Sensibility included. Lovely stuff.

Corking Cookery Deals @ Reader’s Digest

I discovered some pretty awesome cooking deals at Reader’s Digest today so if you love to bake, cook and make, then these should spark your interest somewhat! I have listed all the stand out deals below, so take a peek and let me know!

The first deal is a stainless steel pan set that’s down from £99.99 to only £69.99 – it’s still costly but the price reduction is impressive! The Spin ‘n Store is a web exclusive deal which has reduced this funky salad spinner and storer from £12.99 to £9.99.

You can also get a three piece oven bake and grill set for £8.99 instead of £31.99 – this is a fab deal – and an ace cupcake tray which is down from £19.99 to £12.99. A 14cm saucepan with a glass lid is down to £19.99 from £39.99, and the fab book Cookbook For Children (I have this and I love it), is down to £8.99.

And if you fancy some cooking ideas, then the James Martin: The Collection cookbook should inspire you for only £14.00, or you can get Just Like Mother Used To Make for only £8.99. Happy cooking!

The Tales Of Beatrix Potter £16.99 @ Reader’s Digest

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 15 February, 2012 at 3:00 pm

The Tales Of Beatrix Potter £16.99 @ Reader’s Digest

Oh man, this is a stunning little set where you get all the Beatrix Potter tales on three DVDs for only £16.99 instead of the usual £34.99. The Tales of Beatrix Potter are carefully put together to create a fantastic journey for little ones and a trip down memory lane for their parents.

Children’s stories may come and go but the Tales of Beatrix Potter continue to be firm favourites with children and parents alike. Remember Tabitha Twitchett? Or Jemima Puddleduck? My favourite is definitely the “soporific effect” that the cabbages had on the “leetle bunny rabbits”.

These three DVDs are beautifully animated with popular actor’s voices such as Derek Jacobi, Prunella Scales, Richard Wilson, Sue Pollard and Niamh Cusack. Apparently the DVDs are interwoven with visits to the Lake District to meet Beatrix herself although, um, I am not quite sure how they managed that!

These would make a lovely gift for a friend expecting a baby or for your children and the saving is rather nice too.

Zumba Home Fitness Kit £39.99 @ Reader’s Digest

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 19 January, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Zumba Home Fitness Kit £39.99 @ Reader’s Digest

This is a pretty topical deal as everything seems to be about Zumba at the moment. Everywhere I turn there’s a Zumba going on, even a tribe of them roaming the streets last Saturday while I was doing my shopping. This Zumba Home Fitness kit has been marked down from £49.99 to £39.99 in the Reader’s Digest sale.

The Zumba Home Fitness kit is aimed at everyone from beginners to pros and included are six workouts including: Zumba basics, 20 minute express routine, cardio party, sculpt and tone, flat abs, and Zumba Live.

The entire Zumba Home Fitness pack comes with toning sticks too so you can add some extra weight to your wriggle as you boogie your way through those Latin rhythyms. The advantage of this kind of set, of course, is that you can wave your arms and your bum about without anybody else seeing you.

This is helpful if you are starting out and (like me) tend to be about four moves behind the instructor. The price is quite good for this kit that also has a Total Body Transformation Guide included. And if this doesn't do it for you, take a peek at the other deals they have. I am SO eyeballing that AB Circle Pro...

Christmas Cupcakes And Decorated Gingerbread Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 14 December, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Christmas Cupcakes And Decorated Gingerbread Review

I have gone Christmas baking mad this year and have already made no less than six Christmas cakes already. These are presents, obviously so stop staring. I then decided that I definitely wanted to make my own Christmas decorations with gingerbread men and styles, as well as some cute cupcakes for those Christmas get togethers at home.

So I took up the awesome deal on Reader’s Digest for both books – Christmas Cupcakes and Decorated Gingerbread – for £9.99 instead of £19.99. Nice saving of £10 off the original price there. Then I started on the gingerbread book. I am still afraid of cupcakes, I am just rubbish at them…

There are two very specific gingerbread recipes in the book – one classic and one chocolate. The chocolate gingerbread adds in some ground almonds, treacle and cocoa to deliver a rich flavour. I made my first batch copying the instructions exactly but without a food processor. I don’t have one as there is no space in my current kitchen.

The final dough was  crumbly so I had to add 1/4tsp of water to get the right consistency. Once that was done, the gingerbread men I made were perfect. And this was my first time ever. Honestly fabulous. The ideas in the book are really just that, though. You get two basic gingerbread recipes and the rest of the book is clever ideas on how to ice them. Incredibly useful for people who aren’t that artistic, like me.

The Christmas Cupcakes book had me drooling. There are some designs in there that are utterly delectable and that, on a brave day, I am going to try. Unfortunately I never had time to make the cupcakes before this review went live but I can assure you that the ideas for decorating and the different flavours on offer, are really diverse.

We recently got this ace exclusive PlayPennies discount from Reader’s Digest, just in time for Christmas, and this isn’t the only one either, we have two other lovely discounts waiting for you tomorrow and in December. This book, the Cookbook for Children, has been reduced by Reader’s Digest to only £8.99 instead of the usual £19.99.

The recipes come with simple and illustrated instructions that go step-by-step through each process.

The Cookbook for Children also has helpful tips so that even first time cooks will find it easy to get cooking and they will learn how to do things like boil an egg and decorate a cake. Recipes included are Salmon Fishcakes (yum!), Ratatouille with Butter Bean Mash, Strawberry Shortcake, and Chocolate Fudge Brownies. Sounds yummy.

We got this deal because Reader's Digest asked us to choose what we wanted them to reduce for us and they gave us a hefty 50% off on this ace cookbook. We chose, they reduced, everybody won!

My Numbers, My Alphabet, My Farmyard Giant Floor Puzzle £5.99 @ Reader’s Digest

I must admit that I am still struggling with the idea that Reader’s Digest has its own online store, I always equate it with magazines found lying about my parent’s house as a kid. Well, regardless, Reader’s Digest have a special on giant floor puzzles that they are selling for a mere £5.99.

Keep the kids occupied with this set of three giant floor puzzles, each one with a different theme to inspire young minds. You have maths and numbers, the alphabet and the farmyard to enjoy, each with 28 chunky jigsaw pieces that are easy for little hands to use.

The giant floor puzzles come in a box with a handy carry handle and are ideal for helping kids improve hand-eye co-ordination, develop problem solving skills, imagination and storytelling. For a tasty £5.99 rather than the usual £26.99, these are a giant bargain.
