Ravensburger 2011 Christmas Limited Edition Which Way Santa Puzzle £9.99 @ Amazon

Ravensburger have brought out a limited edition Christmas puzzle for 2011. It's called Which Way Santa and is a perfect build-up to Christmas puzzle – no pun intended – to set the mood for the big day, I think. It's reduced by 23% from £12.99 to £9.99 including postage, so could make a lovely family project for Boxing Day too.

Which Way Santa is a 1000 piece puzzles with richly detailed, sturdy puzzle pieces made from strong premium grade cardboard, with linen finish print to minimise glare on puzzle image. It was illustrated by British artist Roy Trower, and is probably quite complex with all it's small details, which is why it's suitable from ages 12 and up.

Once built the puzzle measures a respectible 70 x 50 cm, so you'll need a nice working surface to start off with.

I never know what to actually do with puzzles once they're built. It seems like such an anticlimax to just break them up again, but you can't exactly frame every puzzle you ever build... unless you have storage space and can rotate them? Either way, puzzles are great for seeing a project come to fruition, and apparently good for developing logic and so on. And then there's the fact that they're good, interactive family fun, and this gorgeous Which Way Santa is sure to set the mood.

Toy Story 3: 3 In A Box Puzzle £3.49 @ Play.com

Toy Story 3: 3 In A Box Puzzle £3.49 @ Play.com
Play.com are selling the Toy Story 3: 3 in a box 49 piece jigsaw puzzle for £3.49, with free delivery. The RRP is usually £4.00, so it's a 30% saving – or £1.50 in cold hard cash terms.

The three puzzles, suitable for ages 5 and over feature characters from the movie. Each puzzle is cut into 49 pieces and the reverse of each has different patterns so they can be readily sorted out before assembly.

The first puzzle has Jessie, Woody, Lotso, (who, honestly, was a very surprising character. I still don't get how he could be so mean with a name like that!) Slinky, Bullseye and Mr. Potato Head doing an excited looking little jig.

The second features Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and both Potato Heads, while the third has the boys, or rather, Buzz, Woody, Hamm and Rex and a few army men posing for their viewers.

If puzzles are, as Play claims, an “excellent way to encourage your child's observation, imagination and communication skills”, then this is a brilliantly priced way of doing so!

Ravensburger Toy Story 3 Giant Floor Jigsaw Puzzle £3.99 @ Play.com

This lovely Ravensburger Toy Story 3 Giant Floor Jigsaw Puzzle is down to £3.99 from £8.99, a lovely £5.00 saving.

I love puzzles, and it's one of the best things about cold and rainy days. I have lovely memories of my family sitting together building puzzles as the rain pounds the window panes. You can join Woody, Buzz, Jessie and all their friends on this bright and colourful Toy Story 3 giant floor puzzle.

It is made from thick and strong recycled board and the puzzle is cut into 60 pieces. The finished puzzle is around 70 x 50 cm, which is large for a puzzle but not so giant that it will take up all of the floor space.

According to a reviewer on the Play.com site, this is a great puzzle for young kids. “The picture is a lot of fun and the pieces are nice and big making the puzzle fairly easy to complete.

Giant Toy Story Floor Jigsaw Puzzle (60 Pieces) £7.51 @ Amazon

Giant Toy Story Floor Jigsaw Puzzle (60 Pieces) £7.51 @ AmazonCan you believe that the original Toy Story first graced our screens 15 years ago back in 1995!

I have a very clear memory of being up at a very antisocial hour back in 1995 with my, now almost 16-year-old, son watching Toy Story on good old VHS tape - no DVDs back in those days you know!

Buzz Lightyear irritated me, Woody was just too much of a goody-goody and Bo-Peep...I didn't like her much either. But Mr Potato head wishing for Andy to get a Mrs Potato Head for his birthday amused me greatly and he became my favourite - maybe it's because I never had a Mr Potato Head as a child, who knows.

Founded in 1883, Ravensburger are a family owned company who specialise in puzzles and they've produced this rather fabulous GIANT Toy Story Floor Puzzle.

Giant Toy Story Floor Jigsaw Puzzle (60 Pieces) £7.51 @ AmazonIt measures a whopping 70cm x 50cm and has 60 chunky pieces.  According to the official blurb the suitable age range is between three and 108 years old, which I find hilarious! Is that 108 figure totally random?

Perhaps there has been some research which shows that once you're over 108 years old your ability to play with puzzles is lost and you're not to be let loose near them ever again!
