Cracking Cookware Deals @ Sainsburys

Cracking Cookware Deals @ SainsburysI'm always on the prowl for decent pots, pans, plates and glasses and Sainsbury's have some fabulous deals on all of those things, at the moment, with lots of things half price and up to 70% off.

Pots, pans, baking trays et al - 1) you can never have too many pans and 2) whilst it's great that my teenagers can cook their own dinner, and do, they do have a habit of 'killing' my pans.  As one is about to leave home and the other only a year behind, I'm quietly building my new 'untouched by teenage hand' pan collection to be unleashed when they're gone and this three-piece copper bottom pan set for £36 instead of £72 will fit in rather nicely.

There are enough dinner sets to have me umming and ahhhing between them and most of them have 70% taken off their full retail price - there's a Denby dinnerware set for £21 instead of £70.

If glasses are your thing - or you live with people who keep breaking them - then there are some lovely simple every-day glasses up for grabs at half price - these four are £3 instead of £6.

There are 137 items in the 'cookware' sale section - I'm trying not to be tempted by this rather lovely porcelain pie dish that's £3.50 instead of £7, although I must confess I'm not trying very hard!

You can click and collect your shiny new cookware bits and pieces from your local Sainsbury's for free, or have them delivered to your home for £3.95 (standard delivery).

Happy cookware shopping!

9l Maslin Pan For Making Jams And Chutneys £18.74 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 September, 2011 at 11:00 am

9l Maslin Pan For Making Jams And Chutneys £18.74 @ AmazonI'm VERY excited about this 9l maslin pan on sale at Amazon for £18.74, instead of £49.95.

I've entered a homely, domestic phase!

I can think of nothing I'd rather do than pamper my husband and be busy (in between all the usual work busyness!) in the kitchen making things; this is NOT my usual behaviour.

I made the Christmas cake last week and will be pouring brandy on it, every Wednesday, between now and early December.  NOW, I want to make all sorts of festive chutneys to eat with all the left over cold Christmas meat.

And I want to make JAM; to eat with home-made scones, of course!

I've never made jam in my life (I've never made my own Christmas cake either - I'll let you know how it tastes in 11 weeks or so!) and there's so much fruit around at the moment thanks to the very cold winter, warm spring and wet summer we've had, that apparently, this is a great jam-making season.

SO, I beetled off to find out what equipment I needed and, in the process stumbled across this absolute BARGAIN of a maslin pan.

It has an encapsulated base which is important, apparently, because it provides an even heat distribution when cooking.

It also includes a useful measuring gauge for measuring ingredients and liquids and has a handy pouring spout, sturdy carry handle with easy pour helper handle; awesome.

By all accounts, this sort of thing is rarely cheap so if you're tempted to have a bash at making your own preserves you should order one sooner rather than later.

I've ordered mine!

Prestige Aluminium 5-Piece Pan Set £40 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 10 September, 2011 at 10:00 am

Prestige Aluminium 5-Piece Pan Set £40 @ AmazonThere's no denying it, decent pots and pans are expensive so when a deal comes up it's always worth taking a look.

Amazon are currently selling this Prestige Aluminuim 5-piece pan set for £40 instead of £114.99.

I wrote about pans a little while ago - my kitchen in South Africa is woefully lacking in the pots and pans department; after telling you about pans I beetled off to have a look for some new ones with the intention of buying some.

I came home panless but with a new plan - I'll buy new pans here, when I find a good deal, and take them back with me in January; these Prestige pans are likely to be the ones destined to live in the Southern Hemisphere.

They are made from 2mm guage aluminium, have the Prestige logo stamped on the base, non-stick coatings and some have glass lids.

The pan sizes are as follows:

  • 1 x 14cm aluminium milkpan
  • 1 x 16cm aluminium saucepan
  • 1 x 18cm aluminium saucepan
  • 1 x 20cm aluminium saucepan
  • 1 x 24cm aluminum frypan

I wish these were an Amazon Deal of the Week, but they're not so the price is subject to the usual Amazon jiggery-pokery as and when they feel like it.

Happy cooking!

Tefal 5-Piece Essentials Pan Set £39.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 August, 2011 at 10:00 am

Tefal 5-Piece Essentials Pan Set £39.99 @ AmazonIf you know me then you know this sounds strange - I LOVE new pots and pans!

This Tefal 5-piece essentials pan set - that Amazon have reduced from £100 down to £39.99 - really appeals to me; it takes iron will not to buy almost every pan deal I find.

I live between the UK and South Africa.  I'm currently at home in SA and my pots and pan collection here is absolutely WOEFUL! I'm talking one largish frying pan and a big steamer/casserole pan - I really must sort this out and buy some more.

I might have to go hunting and see if I can find an equivalent to this 5-piece Tefal Essentials pan set as it would be perfect.

It comes with a 20cm and 24cm frying pan and 16cm, 18cm and 20cm saucepans.

Each pan has a 'Thermospot' that tells you when the pan has reached its perfect cooking temperature and they all have non-stick interiors.

In addition to that, the saucepans have glass lids.

I'm a big fan of glass lids - even though they get water marks if you don't dry/polish them with a tea towel - because you can see exactly what's going on inside the pan.

I wish these were an Amazon Deal of the Week so their price was guaranteed until Sunday; they're not, so we'll have to take our chances and keep our fingers crossed that Amazon leave their price alone for a fair while yet.
