Playhouses are always going to be firm favourites with kids and in my experience they cross the gender divide, boys and girls love playing in them with equal gusto!

When my youngest was two, or so, we used to walk a few metres down the lane to the little village pocket park.  They had a little holiday house there and he would spend HOURS playing in there - opening the door and going in, playing BOO! through the windows and collapsing in hysterics every time.

It was his 5th birthday on Sunday and we threw him a 'birthday party in the park' - there was a bouncy castle, football, rounders, frisby and all of the big wooden adventure trail equipment to play on.

Where did most of the kids gravitate to? Yup, the now tired looking plastic holiday house!

This holiday house is suitable for little kiddies aged two years and over.  It has an opening front door, two open windows and measures 99 x 118 x 117 cm.

If you live in Southern Ireland then I'm afraid Toys R Us won't deliver to you (don't know why!) otherwise delivery is an option; although you'll need to spend a penny more to qualify for free delivery - standard delivery is £4.95.

The cheapest house on the list is the Holiday House which is £49.99 instead of £99.99. It has 4 stars from the 50 reviews, and seems a good little house if you don’t want to spend a fortune.

The lowest priced Fun Wooden Playhouse is £79.99 which also has 4 stars from the 4 reviewers. This is a very colourful playhouse which seems to be a shop, complete with a post office, shop, cafe and even a puppet theatre! It also includes lots of accessories.

There’s a massive £150 off the Smoby Hello Kitty Sweet Home which was £249.99 but is now £99.99

The very top of the range on offer is the Smoby Floralie Playhouse which is a £27 saving, coming in at £269.99. This house features a large inside space lots of accessories! They can water the plants in the garden outside. With a pitched roof, gate into the garden, telephone, 2 stools and gardening tools, this house will keep children entertained for hours.

While you can click and collect, delivery is £4.95, which might be easier if you’re going for one of the bigger houses!

There are a few lovely playhouses for sale at Amazon at the moment, and while they are normally rather expensive, these are well worth a look at these reduced prices.

There are loads of playhouses on offer at Amazon right now, some with only £3 or £4 off, but others, like the ones I’ve picked out below have really great savings.

For example, the Dream Town Cherry Blossom Stores Playhouse is down from £59.99 to £19.49, and comes with a till, play money, a credit card and a shop counter. It also has a ‘real’ working stable door and blind.

The Puppy Lane Cottage and Dog is one of my favourites for cuteness and is reduced to £39.99, which is a £30 saving. It comes with Candyfloss, a playful plush puppy, a Kennel, Collar Tag and Lead, Brush, Bowl and Bone.

If you have a bit more money to spend and want something a bit more permanent, there’s the Simba-Smoby Floralie Play House for outdoors fun. It was £299.99 but with 10% off is now £269.98.

It feels a little like rummaging through the bargain bin in a department store, but there are some nice little savings there if you’re in the market for a playhouse.

This rather cute Dream Town Cherry Blossom Stores playhouse is £18.99 at Argos Ebay right now, with an additional £1.99 for postage making it £20.98 in total  - still cheaper than the £29.99 at Amazon, the £34.99 you’d pay for it at Play.com or £44.95 at BPSalesdirect.com

I think this is a really cute looking little playhouse, and the fact that it’s only ‘half’ a building is quite  nice too as it should take up a little less space in your home, which is always useful.  The shop is made of fabric, and has a red tiled roof, purple door and awning over the windows.

It comes with a till, play money and a shop counter included. In size, it is (h)110cm x (w)96cm x (d)50cm and according to reviewers at Argos – where it is out of stock  - it is very sturdy and although girly looking, still fantastic for boys or girls.

It is easy to assemble, they say, and good quality.

If it’s at Argos Ebay, I guess this is your last chance to nab one, so don’t delay!

• Build a house of imagination with the large Mookie playhouse

The verdict is out on this playhouse from Mookie, and the reviews are very mixed. According to the Amazon product description, this is a 'strong and sturdy construction' but most of the reviewers felt that it has really poor and flimsy plastic and one person feels that the edges were a bit rough to be safe with children.

Adult assembly is required and most said it took them around 30 minutes, which isn't too bad.

The big thing to remember with this playhouse is that it is a large playhouse. While it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, one of the mums reviewing said that she wished they'd published the dimensions, because – and this made me spit my coffee with laughter, poor woman - “I really wish dimensions had been listed, when they say "Large" it really DOES means large. I bought this thinking "How big can it be? Look at the size of those toddlers in the picture..." Trust me.. they're the largest toddlers on the planet. This playhouse now IS our hallway!”

Well, when they say large, I guess they mean it!

Opinions might be split about the quality of this playhouse, but one thing everyone agreed on was just how much the children loved it.

• Move your kids into their own place with this Hello Kitty Playhut

My god-daughter is absolutely Hello Kitty obsessed. We just celebrated her fifth birthday with a Hello Kitty cake and Hello Kitty décor and a Hello Kitty bouncy castle. She has Hello Kitty bubble bath and Hello Kitty bedding. Really. When I said obsessed, I wasn't kidding.

I really think I should buy her this Hello Kitty Playhut, just to complete the collection.

It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is 76 (l) x 76 (w) x 91 (h) cm in dimensions. It's predominent colour is, of course, pink and it's made of fabric. The hut has an opening entrance with velcro tabs to keep the hut open or closed.

There's also a boys version, the Transformers tent that's the same in every other way. There's a five-star review on this one who says that it is easy to put up and take down, and that it gets played with every day – and that he can't say a single bad thing about it... which is pretty good!

Delivery is a hefty £4.95, but there's no escaping it, unless you go in store.
