Free Personalised A4 Wall Calendar @ Photobox

Free Personalised A4 Wall Calendar @ Photobox

This is a really good deal from Photobox right now, you can get yourself a free personalised A4 wall calendar for 2012 and the only thing you pay is the £3.99 postage charges. Some may argue that the calendar costs you £3.99, but that is still a rocking price for this ace deal.

To get your free calendar you need to register first, then you can personalise it with your photos and send it off to your address for free calendar fun. The calendars are actually very good value for money when you buy them, so this is ace. I am so getting these made for the grandparents from their granddaughter.

You can choose from a wide range of styles for your photo calendar and it is rather easy to create. The only tough time you’ll have is deciding which photographs you want to use. The deal expires tomorrow at midnight so best you get started!

Personalised Photo Calendar £3.99 @ Photobox

Personalised Photo Calendar £3.99 @ Photobox

If you've wondered about getting yourself a personalised wall calender in the past, but had questions about either the process or the quality, now's a good time to try. This offer is free, but you pay the £3.99 postage. Sadly it's only open to new customers... good thing my hubby's never ordered from Photobox before, is all I'm saying...

Personalise your 2012 calender

  • Discount: Free Calendar
  • Offer Code: FREEWALL
  • Minimum Spend: £3.99 for postage
  • Conditions: New customers only
  • Exclusions: Pro Galleries and Photo Days
  • Expires: 31 October 2011

Actually, these are pretty great. The year my daughter was born, we filled a calender with pictures of her posed for each month - with hearts for February, chicks for April, in the leaves for October and so on - and gave it to them for Christmas. Lame, sure, but proud first time parents and prouder first time grandparents are easy to please.

Of course, you can use pictures from your favourite holiday destinations, sunset scenes, old cars or whatever tickles your fancy, really. It's also a great idea if you just want to 'try it out' before deciding to make some for others for Christmas.

The way it works is simple - upload pictures, pop them in the months you'd like them for, and you can even personalise dates on the calender - no more forgetting birthdays and anniversaries, and if it's a gift for someone else, there's no reason for them to forget yours!

40% Off Personalised Gifts, Stationery, Calendars and Diaries @ Photobox

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 July, 2011 at 12:00 pm

40% Off Personalised Gifts, Stationery, Calendars and Diaries @ PhotoboxIf you're quick, you'll be able to save 40% on personalised gifts, stationery, calendars and diaries from Photobox.

I'm a huge fan of personalised gifts, there's just something that little bit extra special about them.

There are all sorts of places that offer the same services as Photobox, and whilst I'm sure their service is good, I can't vouch for them the way I can with Photobox.

Their prices are extremely competitive, their service is exemplary and I've never had cause for complaint regarding the final product(s).

The creation and ordering process is very simple too - they really can't make it much more straightforward for you.

Simply choose the gift item you want to personalise, decide what you'd like to personalise it with - you don't have to use a photograph of people/someone, a photograph of your child's artwork or a letter can work really well and makes for a really unique one-off gift - and then upload it.

The personalised gift range from Photobox includes mousemats, mugs, keyrings, coasters, cushions, placemats, jigsaws, fridge magnets and that's just to name a few!

Personalised calendars always go down well with grandparents too; let's face it, anything to do with their grandchildren is always a winner.

To claim your 40% off simply enter the discount code HOLIDAY when you're prompted to - you MUST use it before MIDNIGHT TONIGHT though, so if you've been umming and ahhing about something for a while, now's the time to finally get it sorted and ordered!

The images are printed on high quality Fujifilm crystal archive paper and you can have same day dispatch if you order before 4pm on Mon to Fri. And you can choose from a variety of different sizes.

The deal does not include postage costs which will vary depending on what you buy and what delivery options you choose.

A4 Photobox Photobook £9.50 @ GrouponHave you got your head around Groupon yet? If you haven't and have been looking at photobook albums, now's the time to grapple Groupon.

So here's how it works:  you buy a deal through Groupon and you'll pay less than you would if you didn't.

That's about as tricky as it gets but you have to be quick as most of them only have a 24 to 48 hour lifespan, when the clock stops ticking you've missed out.

That said, you've got a little longer to take advantage of this Photobox Groupon deal as the time doesn't run out until 11.59pm on Monday 27 June.

So with this Groupon deal, you pay £9.50 for an A4 photobook, that you create from your own photographs, from Photobox instead of £31.99.

Your book will contain up to 26 photographs, they'll be printed on 170gsm glossy paper and it will be bound in a glossy hardback cover.

At 2pm on Tuesday 28 June your voucher will become active and you'll be able to go to Photobox and start creating your book; you have up until the 29 September to do this, so there's no howling rush if you want to take your time or haven't taken the photos you might want to use, from a forthcoming wedding for example.

That's really all there is to it - you pay £9.50 for an A4 Photobox photobook that should cost you £31.99; marvellous!

Happy Photo Choosing!

Photobox Photobook Review

Photobox Photobook Review

We regularly feature photobook deals here on PlayPennies, so we thought it about time that we reviewed one. I say ‘we’, but of course, I mean one of our PlayPennies Mums – Lee-Anne, mum to one, to be exact.

The brief was simple: Build a Photobox Photobook, order it and let us know what you think.

For the last four years, I've made quite a number of photo books. For funerals, weddings, birthdays. They make a lovely gift, and something for everyone to look at. So,” Lee-Anne decribes herself, “I'd say I’m pretty old hand at creating one”.

I was particularly intrigued by Photobox's 'instant photo book' service,” she begins. “Now I know full well just how much time one of these takes to make. By the time you've selected your photos, arranged them in order, and then placed them on the pages it is the better part of the afternoon.” And she’s too right. I once spent an entire week of holiday designing three photobooks for family.

About getting started, Lee-Anne wasn’t too impressed, and found she wasted a lot of time.

Photobox Photobook ReviewWith Photobox you upload your photos first, naturally. This was the first time I had used them and I couldn't easily see how I could create an album first to put the photos in. Which would have been easier, as each time you upload a few photos, the screen on the left changes to show all the photos you have in Photobox albums. I had to go back each time to the previous screen to get the Upload button. This could have been a little bit easier.

It did get better from there though. “Once photos were uploaded I could quickly scan through, orientate individual photos, and rearrange them. Then I was given the option of using the instant service, or manually placing images in the book. I chose instant, and was really quite surprised at how well the photos were arranged. I didn't have to make many changes. I was happy with the photo on the cover, and with most of the images it had chosen to make into the full pages. It was also very easy to remove photos from the page, and change them around.”

I’ve personally used Photobox plenty of times in the past, but not recently and must admit, this sounds a fantastic service! It would save me actual hours of fitting in, fiddling and shifting things about.

The only negative Lee-Anne found was not being able to change the layout of the page to adapt the number of pictures on a page. (You can do this by clicking on the edit button. It takes you to a new screen with ‘layout’ as one of the options.)

But, the benefit of this ‘instant’ service is apparently the massive amount of time saved. “All in, with editing and captions, it took me half an hour to create a photo album I was happy with. It isn't really 'instant' but it does do all the boring bits (laying out the pages) but allows you to make the changes you want like moving photos around and adding captions, quickly and easily.” Half an hour to do a whole photobook? That’s a winner to me!

So, Lee-Anne sent off her order, and sat back waiting for it to arrive. Or with a young son, probably didn’t sit back, so much, but still, waited.

The photobook arrived earlier than I expected. It comes in a really sturdy box that you can carefully open if you want to use it again. Which is what I plan to do with the next photobook as I am creating one for my parents too. Inside, the book is in a plastic bag to keep it safe.”

Photobox Photobook ReviewI liked the size and clarity of the photo I chose to use on the front of the album. I got a fairly standard album, with the standard covers. This has a nice gloss to it, with a shiny look and really thick front and back covers. The inside pages are matt black, and then you get to the photos.”

The photo pages are fairly heavy weight, and slightly glossy.

I tried to do this photo album as fast as possible, since that's its 'unique selling point'. I didn't adjust any of the photos, except for orientation. The automatic settings are clearly set fairly high on contrast, which worked well for most of my photos adding depth. However, the snow photos are simply too bright, and too dark, and they didn't look as good as the normal prints I have had made.

There was one fairly large problem with the album, which was totally a user mistake: Lee-Anne hadn’t thoroughly checked it before printing, and found an image she hadn’t changed the orientation on. “The fact that you can make this photo album so quickly did lead to me being careless. I left one photo on its side! When I checked for the correct orientation, I missed that one. Also one photo wasn't good enough quality for the larger, single page slots, and I missed that. It printed rather pixellated. I don't take all the blame for that though. Although you are warned as you go through if the program has issues with photo quality, this warning isn't clear and I missed it a few times.” It’s unfortunate that Lee-Anne missed this as there’s actually a button specially to check the quality of your pictures, which tells you which pages aren’t really up to scratch.

Photobox Photobook ReviewSo, Lee-Anne’s overall impression of the Photobox Photo book?

“I was very happy with the result. In less than half an hour I made a lovely book with lots of photos and captions that tells the story of a whole year of my son's life, from Father's Day 2010 to Father's Day 2011. I'm pretty happy with that!”

20% Off Everything @ Photobox

20% Off Everything @ Photobox

Photobox is one of my favourite online photo processing spots, I’ve been using them for years and they have yet to let me down. They are currently offering 20% off everything except premium canvas prints and photo fashion. A brilliant discount that you can use to nab some ace prints and gifts.

This is a good time to look into getting some cute Father’s Day gifts as well. After all, 20% off everything doesn’t come around very often and there isn’t that much time left until Father’s Day. Especially considering how darn fast this year is slipping by.

I really like the quality of the Photobox canvas prints and their photobooks. Although the actual process of making your photobook can be a bit tricky, there are some nice extras like the new Instant Photobook that cuts time off fiddling with different images.

You can nab canvas prints, mugs, coasters, shirts, toys and so much more in the 20% off everything sale. And all you need to do is enter the offer code SAVE20 into the basket and click Update. Voila! Your order has been happily discounted for you.

5 Ideas For Your Clutter

by Lynley Oram in Features on 21 March, 2011 at 1:00 pm

5 Ideas For Your ClutterUnless you're really good, or child-free, keeping the clutter down in the house is pretty much a losing battle. Here's 5 ideas for your clutter, to minimise, make good use of it, and make money out of it.

Clutter falls roughly into three categories. Memory clutter, I might need it clutter, and I paid a lot of money for it clutter. In my house we've pretty much got all three. Clogging up the loft, the garage, the under stairs cupboard. Even my precious office space, which is needed as I work from home, is turning into a store room.

It is, quite frankly, ridiculous. Part of the problem comes when one of you is a hoarder. This is not me. I come from a family of people who not only don't hoard, but are so unsentimental that nothing is ever saved.

There has to be a sensible middle way surely? Looking for ideas on what to do to tackle the problem sensibly, I came across these five ideas that seem particularly good.

Box it

I have tried scrap books before. For some people they're immense fun, and there's an entire industry dedicated to it. There's even specialist magazines on the topic. For me it was a total failure. I just could never keep up with it. All those bits and bobs. Before I knew it, I had two years worth of the stuff in the backlog, no idea of dates and in some instances only a hazy idea of what something was about or a souvenir from.

5 Ideas For Your Clutter

Now I have a few boxes of stuff from when the step kids were little, and it is all lumped together.

When my son was born, I bought a keepsake box. I can't seem to find the specific one I bought, and now I can't remember where I got it from. But I am so glad I did. It is a bit like this box here, the Blue Baby Keepsake Box (£16.99).

I popped all the little important bits in there, the stuff you REALLY want to keep, from when he was born. My friends sent the most wonderful gift, which was the front pages of their local newspapers from the day he was born.

And putting it in a really nice box, means you can display the box. And having that out makes it so much easier to use the keepsake box, another stumbling block for me.

Sell it

How many near-pristine items have you got around the house sitting largely unused? It is a bit scary really to think how often I get sucked into buying something I think I really need and then only use it once. The thing is, if you've spent a lot of money on something, it is rather hard to let it go.

There's a guide to the basics of selling on eBay here. Another option, car boot sales, aren't quite as lucrative as they used to be. Ask around your local area to find ones that are still doing a good trade. If you don't know anyone who has tried car boot sales, take a look online for blogs in your area. For example, I came across this description of a few in the Wee Birdy blog.

5 Ideas For Your Clutter

Sale events can also be a good way to sell items, especially if you still have a lot of baby stuff. You can set up a table at an NCT Nearly New sale, for example. Click here to find one in your area.

The NCT don't cover everywhere though. They don't do my locality for instance, even though I'm in London. However, more local organisers might be doing something similar. Around here, for example, we have Sell It Mama.

Frame it

5 Ideas For Your ClutterAnother mum gave me some good advice. Shiree suggests that you "pick one or two pieces of your child's artwork and put them in the frame. Everything else goes. You will go insane if you try to keep it all, and most of it will lose meaning anyway. This way you've got something nice to put on the wall too. And your child will feel pretty chuffed to have their picture nicely framed." For some great ideas on doing this, take a look at the Blissfully Domestic blog.

Larger frames can contain a collage of items. Or you could do what a friend of mine does and paste tickets and similar items as wallpaper in the toilet. Not possibly the best idea if you think you'll move anytime soon though.

Picture it

One mum puts her children's momentos into a photobook each year. Special artwork, events they go to, school projects all get photographed. Then once a year she puts them into a photobook to keep. A good idea as some of those school projects are quite big! Keep an eye out on here. There's frequently discount codes and offers for the companies that sell these, and you can get them for half price or less.

In researching this article, I came across this blog from Photobox. It would seem that the company has a new 'easy make' feature on its website. The software will recognise the order the photos were taken in (I assume by the time and date stamp on them) and order the photos in the album automatically. I have no idea if this works or is available yet. But it definitely sounds pretty cool.

Donate or throw it

At some point you have to realise you can't keep everything. If you can't sell it you can give it away. And if you can't give it away, then throw it. Sometimes you just have to be ruthless.

You can't keep every single pair of shoes they have owned, no matter how cute they are (as I keep trying to explain to my husband, Mr Pack Rat). These can be recycled, so take them to a shoe shop near you that collects for charities. Some have the shoes made into other items, while others deliver the shoes for use in the developing world.

5 Ideas For Your ClutterIf clothes aren't good enough to donate to charity, take them to your local recycling depot. To find a recycle bank or centre that will take clothes, try the Recycle Now site. You can enter your postcode, and you'll get your closest recycling points on a map. I'm not sure how up to date it is though. It told me my closest recycling point was at my local supermarket, which is actually true. But it said that it was a Somerfield, a chain bought (and swallowed) by Morrison's about five years ago (I think).

So, what do you do? How do you keep your clutter down. Tips please! Especially if, like me, you live with a hoarder.

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift Ideas

by Lynley Oram in Features on 7 March, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift IdeasIt is Mothering Sunday, increasingly referred to as Mother's Day, on the 3rd of April in the UK. Which is roughly just over three weeks away. So you've got plenty of time to get prepared. But if you're wanting to snap up any bargain gifts, now is the time to go shopping.

Here I've drawn on the collective expertise of the PlayPennies' parents to gather together some fabulous ideas for Mother's Day gifts, priced at a fiver or less.

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift Ideas1 Card And Gift

This is really cute. I love it. The Mother's Day Ask Your Dad Door Hanger Card is a Mother's Day card and a gift all in one. And a gift you can use all year round. On the outside it tells the kids to go find Dad (I am paraphrasing just a tad) and on the inside it says 'have a relaxing day'.

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift Ideas

The Ask your dad door hanger card is sold by Marks & Spencer and can be bought for the princely sum of £2.25.

Over at the PaperChase, they have the perfect get-out-of-buying-a-present-altogether card. It's the No Gift Card. But it is better than it sounds. The card actually says 'No Gift To My Mother Can Equal The Gift She Gave Me'. Awww how sweet is that?

2 Chocolate

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift IdeasThornton's chocolates. Delicious. This little package of I Love Mum Cups simply says I Love Mum. They're milk chocolate truffle cups. The pack contains five chocolates. It costs £2.99.

Something simple, sweet and unfussy. Try this chocolate bar from John Lewis. It is the Ambassadors of London 'Happy Mother's Day' Chocolate bar for £4.

Or you could add that personal touch. At Not On The High Street they're selling personalised Best Mum chocolate bars. You can choose from milk or dark chocolate, and add a message to the back of the bar. The site also sells Yummy Mummy chocolate bars (£4.45) and Thanks So Much bars (£4.95).

3 Smellies

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift IdeasIn my book it is hard to go wrong with something that smells lovely. Bubbles, salts, soaps. Anything for the bath is good. One of my favourite brands, Lush, sells this lovely A Ring Of Roses soap, which sells for £3.45 per 100g.

According to the website "A Ring of Roses smells of sweet oranges and lemons, as well as genuine Turkish rose absolute. This skin softening, soothing body soap has the same fragrance as Amandopondo, but surrounded in an infusion of larkspur, honeysuckle, marigold and cornflowers, it smells completely different. Use it when you need calm for your skin and your mind."

When I looked on The Body Shop website, I was surprised not to find any specific Mother's Day items. Maybe it is too early? But regardless, there's this little gift set, which is cheaper and more practical than buying actual roses. The Moroccan Rose Small Gift Box (£5) contains a Moroccan Rose Bath & Shower Gel (60 ml), a Moroccan Rose Body Butter (50 ml) and a Bath Lily.

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift IdeasHere's something a little more unusual. Whittard, the tea people, sell Fleur Bathtub Tea (£3.50). This is not actually tea you drink though. It is a soothing and calming infusion for your bath, which you soak in.

According to the Whittard website "four jumbo teabags filled with a calming blend of herbal teas and blossoms, scented with lemon balm and lavender. Sit back and relax with the calming scent of lavender."

4 Practical But Different

You really have to know your recipient before buying something like this. But I think it would be PERFECT for my mother in law. She's the type of person who can pull a mini-screwdriver set out of her handbag at a moment's notice.

I think she'd love this. Actually, so would I. It is really gorgeous. The Kirstie Allsop, she of Location Location Location fame, Mini Measuring Tape, available at Marks & Spencer, is £4. It has a floral design, or vintage chic as it says on the website. The Kirstie Allsop Mini Measuring Tape has a button to hold and release the tape. The site doesn't say how long the tape measure is, which is a bit of an oversight I think. But one of the reviewers on the website said it was quite long. Another said that it was really handy for measuring about the house.Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift Ideas

5. Photo Gifts

There's two advantages of photo gifts over other types of presents for mum. First, they're personal. You can make them about you and the family, and that's always a good thing. Second, you can get creative and make the gifts together.

At Snapfish, photo posters start from £3.99. We published a half price and free delivery promotional code for posters from Snapfish as well. To use this click here.

The Kodak Gallery has 20% off all photo books at the moment, but sadly that doesn't put any of them at the sub £5 mark. And at Photobox you get £5 off when you spend £20. Which, although it involves a fiver doesn't technically fit the specfications of this feature.

Five For Under A Fiver: Mother's Day Gift IdeasPhotobox do photo fridge magnets for £4.10. I'm not sure exactly what you get for that price though. On the website it says that you can "go for a 6”x4” print presented in a magnetic photo frame, or two mini frames each holding a 3”x2” photo of the same image." But to look into it further you have to upload photos and so forth, so I didn't investigate. Would be well worth checking out though. You could do a fridge magnet for each member of the family.
