Where In The Wood? 150-Piece Orchard Toys Jigsaw Puzzle £5.32 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 March, 2012 at 9:00 am

Where In The Wood? 150-Piece Orchard Toys Jigsaw Puzzle £5.32 @ AmazonMy heart always jumps for joy when I come across a great jigsaw puzzle deal; if I were to write a Top 10 kid's toys list, jigsaw puzzles would be right up there  near the top.

This Where In The Wood puzzle has SO many benefits, aside from just puzzle-putting-togethering - in fact, I'm going to buy it for my youngest son so that we can do it together.

SO, 150 pieces make up a detailed woodland scene and there are a whole host of animal images in the jigsaw border - your task, once you've put the puzzle together, is to FIND those animals in the picture.

There is so much else you can talk about too - how many toadstools are there? Is it summer or winter in the wood? What colours are the flowers?  I mean, really, the list goes on and on and will very neatly shoehorn plenty of learning, observation and literacy skills into something that's fun.

Can you tell I'm a fan? The usual price for this Where in the Wood puzzle is £9.75; if you're quick, and Amazon leave the price alone for more than five minutes, then you can pick one up for £5.32 instead; marvellous.

Pick And Mix People £5 @ Play.com

Pick And Mix People £5 @ Play.com

Pick and Mix People from Orchard Toys are currently £5 at Play.com, which is a £2.50 saving on the £7.50 RRP.

I’ve been searching high and low for activities to have lined up to keep my two year old busy during the labour and birth of our new baby, and the days that follow. I’m pretty sure we’ll get in the swing of things quickly, and life will soon adjust to the ‘new’ normal, but in the meantime I need to make sure there are plenty stationary and sedentary things I can do to help her stay occupied.

I thought these Pick and Mix People from Orchard Toys could be loads of fun and a good laugh, and because of the wide age range, something she could really grow into!

The set comes with 12 characters split into three parts each – head, body and feet. So that gives you 36 cards to play with and talk about. You can match up the people with the right parts, or have a good laugh with your mix and match characters. There’s also an educational guide on the reverse if you want to make it more than a game!

4 Orchard Toys Farm Puzzles £3.40 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 24 May, 2011 at 8:00 am

4 Orchard Toys Farm Puzzles £3.40 @ AmazonAmazon are currently selling this box of four Orchard Toys farm puzzles for £3.40 instead of £7.00.

I love puzzles; they don’t have flashing lights, they don't eat batteries at an alarming rate, they don't have bells and whistles or crinkle, rattle or 'sing' nursery rhymes.

They’re just good old fashioned toys that have a huge range of benefits when your child puts the pieces together.

Four Orchard Toys farm puzzles come in this box and are made from 4, 6, 8 and 12 pieces.  This is perfect for really young kiddies to take their first steps into the puzzle world, as the puzzles will grow as their confidence and puzzle-piecing-together skills improve.

Puzzles encourage the development of pattern recognition, patience, organisation (if you sort out the corners from the edges and the middle pieces) and also fine motor skills which are required to fit all the pieces together.

The reviews are good; almost five stars from everybody…

"We bought this for my son when he was about 20 months and he got on really well with it. He still struggles with the chicken one but still loves it."

"Great set of jigsaws! My son is nearly 2 and LOVES doing them. He can do the easier ones himself and needs help with the hardest."

Each puzzle measures 18cm x 18cms and the pieces can be wiped clean.

Crazy Chefs Game £5.64 @ Amazon

The Crazy Chefs game from Orchard Toys is currently on sale at Amazon for £5.64 instead of £7.25 – a lovely 22% saving. Amazon says this offer is valid until midnight tomorrow (Sunday).

If you’ve never heard of Orchard Toys, I strongly suggest you head over to their website and have a browse around. I’ll even make it easy for you and give you their link: Orchard Toys. They are a really interesting company with fantastic games for your little people.

You just have to read some of the reviews on this game at Amazon to know I’m not the only one that thinks so.

I think I may be developing an undying gratitude to the people at Orchard Toys” says one parent.  “This is the fourth Orchard Toys game I have purchased and they have all been durable and enjoyable”, says another.

The game is a game of memory, where you have to collect all the ingredients you need to ‘make a meal’.

According to the parents, again, the game has taught their children about recipes and ingredients, of matching pictures, and most importantly – and mentioned by a few reviewers – taking turns.

If you don’t know Orchard Toys, do check them out, and this game does sound like a winner too.

Orchard Toys Tell The Time Game £3.50 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 10 February, 2011 at 8:00 am

Orchard Toys Tell The Time Game £3.50 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this Orchard Toys 'Tell the Time' game for £3.50 instead of their listed rrp of £7.00 - Play are selling it for £10.99.

I remember being obsessed with the time when I was small; I wanted so desperately to be able to tell the time so I could legitimately wear a watch, I used to get worried that someone would ask me the time and I wouldn't be able to give them an answer *sigh*

Like learning to read, learning to tell the time is a huge step into another world, one where the grown-up kids live.

With this Orchard Toys 'Tell the Time' game your child(ren) will learn and develop numerical skills with analogue and digital times - I'm glad about that, few things infuriate me more than someone who can't tell the time on a watch, or clock, that has hands.

On the whole, reviews are good too...

"This game is fun for learning to tell the time. Each player has a lotto type board with funny time related activities to collect. Quite simple to play and because there are pictures you don't have to be able to tell the time to play it."

"I got this to help my 6 year old learn to tell the time. She loves it and so does her 4 year old sister - it is easy to make it accessible to everyone. A really good introduction to learning to tell the time - I wouldn't get it for a child who already can, but it's ideal for one who hasn't learnt yet. Highly recommended."
