Ginger and Crumb Moses Basket (Inc Mattress) £18 @ Woolworths

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 June, 2012 at 10:00 am

Ginger and Crumb Moses Basket (Inc Mattress) £18 @ WoolworthsIf you're after a moses basket but don't want to feel as though you've been ripped off  - moses baskets can be really expensive - then you should get yourself over to Woolworths, pronto, and take a look at this very cute Ginger and Crumb moses basket.

It's up for grabs for £18 - if you went to Littlewoods to buy it you'd be paying £49, look...

All of my children spent their first few months of life on the outside, sleeping in a moses basket; there's just something about the way they look, to me, that makes them a 'must'.

Aside from how they look, they are very practical

  • They're light and easy to move around the house
  • They're very easy to take away with you when you're staying away from home
  • They're small and baby can feel very cosy inside, there's also the added 'cocooned' feeling when the canopy is raised
  • Find the right deal and you have a very cheap first sleeping solution

Most moses baskets don't come with a mattress either, this one does which makes it an absolute steal for £18; you can also buy matching Ginger and Crumb items from Woolworths (again, considerably cheaper than Littlewoods) if you wanted to create a Ginger and Crumb nursery theme.

Compact Wooden Cot £37.90 @ Kiddicare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 25 April, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Compact Wooden Cot £37.90 @ KiddicareYou can pick up a compact wooden cot from Kiddicare for £37.90 (using checkout code MORRISONS) at the moment, rather than its recommended retail price of £129.99; it's ideal for smaller nurseries or as a secondary cot that lives at a grandparent's house.

Now I'm a fan of big cot beds, but they're quite big and I've always been lucky enough to have the space for them; where space is more of a challenge a compact cot is just what you need.

Suitable from birth up to around 18 months, it's made from pine and has a two base positions; both sides and ends are slatted too so you can see in and your baby can see out from all angles.

If you buy this version then you'll need to purchase a mattress that measures 90 x 54cm OR you can buy a compact cot that comes complete with mattress and Funky Friends cot quilt and bumper set for £68.40 (again, using checkout code MORRISONS).

Delivery is free, because you've spent over £29.99, and you can even chose a delivery time slot too.  Don't forget to add the MORRISONS discount code at the checkout!

Children’s Decorative Cushions 50% Off @ Tesco

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 4 July, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Children’s Decorative Cushions 50% Off @ Tesco

There’s 50% off two decorative cushions for children’s rooms at Tesco at the moment.

When the volcano erupted last year, I was in Norway, in the air during the eruption and on the second flight back to the UK. While traipsing the streets of Oslo trying to make the best of my time I came across a store called Kid, where they had all sorts of shaped pillows for children. I bought a few of them, excited at the prospect of decorating my little girl’s room.  We put up a mosquito net as a castle ‘turret’ in the  corner of her room, and it’s filled with cozy pillows in the shape of cupcakes, lions, hearts, butterflies and so on, as well as large teddy bears, and a huge Peppa Pig from Peppa Pig World.  It’s a really cosy spot, where she sometimes plays, and lies down pretending to be asleep.

The two cushions available at Tesco are the Butterfly Cushion for £3.50 instead of £7, and the Love Embroidered Cushion half price at £4 instead of £8.

Click and collect is free, but home delivery is £5.

Hemsley Nursery Set £399 @ Kiddicare

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 17 June, 2011 at 9:00 am

Hemsley Nursery Set £399 @ Kiddicare

The Hemsley Nursery set at Kiddiecare is currently £399 – a £300 saving from the £699 RRP.  The set includes a cotbed, wardrobe and dresser.

One of the biggest expenses in setting up for a new baby is the furniture that goes into the nursery. Just last night I was saying that nurseries are a very Western thing, and according to the Bounty survey a cot is one of the things British mums consider to be an essential.

We never had one, for practicality sake – we didn’t have the room – but if it’s something you want, this set is a bargain, I think.

It comes with a cotbed with three position mattress base, meaning it works from newborn to 4 – 6 years of age as it changes to a toddler bed.  It doesn’t come with a mattress though, so this will be extra.

The dresser has three shelves to the right and a single cupboard with 2 further shelves to keep your changing and bathing items handy. Again, this doesn’t come with a changing mat, but they aren’t too expensive.

The 2-door wardrobe has four internal shelves and a hanging rail – although we have added an extendable hanging rail to my daughter’s wardrobe as there’s so much wasted hanging space in a baby/toddler wardrobe.

While this is a sleek and clean-looking set, it is made of chipboard and plywood so won’t be too heavy, but also won’t last forever.

Build A Border Room Decor Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 8 December, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Build A Border Room Decor Review

Decorating a baby's room was one of the most amazing parts of pregnancy. It's such an exciting time, and can make you feel close to and prepared for your new arrival. Of course, later on you might have to change the décor to suit a toddler, and as fads change you might find yourself changing room designs time and again.

Build A Border Room Decor ReviewApart from the effort, the cost can really add up – so self adhesive borders and art are ideal, which is where the Fablon/Readyoll Build A Border sets come in.

The children's collections offer a wide variety of decorative products; borders, stickers, foam figures, hooks and more. The range of "mix & match" co-ordinating decorative products provides the opportunity to create a fun themed room that children will adore.

We sent two children's sets to PlayPennies mum Kim to try out and feed back to us.

I absolutely love the self adhesive 'Build A Border' sets that were sent to me to review. I received the 'Butterflies' set and the 'At Sea' set. As I have a daughter I chose to use the Butterfly set myself and I gave the 'At Sea' pack to my mum to give to the school where she works. They are hoping to use it to decorate a room.”

Build A Border Room Decor ReviewEach pack contains a 5m roll of self adhesive border and 60 self adhesive stickers. The Disney kits retail at the same price but you get over 100 stickers in each pack.

These sets are such a great idea and the price is so affordable. These would be perfect for children's bedrooms or nurseries. If you are looking for a really quick way to transform a room these are definitely a must-have item. They are so quick and easy to use. I haven't used the wavy edged flowery border that came in my set yet as I want to keep it for when I decorate my daughter's room properly.

I have however used all the butterfly stickers! I went a bit mad with them... I decorated a wall in the nursery, a toy box, wardrobe doors, lamp shade, windows and a mirror. Basically anything I could find that they'd stick to! I had so much fun...I only stopped decorating when I ran out of stickers!”

Build A Border Room Decor ReviewThe removable stickers can be placed on any smooth surface, such as a cupboard door or a painted wall.

The pack says that the stickers are repositionable during application and removable, which I can vouch for as I have tried and tested it” Kim told us. “I cannot however say whether or not these will be easily removed after a few years though - I'm hoping they will be.”

We hope so too, as that's the idea!

The 'At Sea' pack contains a wave design border and 60 stickers of boats, fish, starfish, crabs, clouds and more. This is a lovely set that would be perfect to create an ocean themed room.

For my daughter's first birthday this year, we emptied the lounge of furniture and put zoo stickers all over the room. They kept falling off the wall though, so I really wish we'd known about these – what a perfectly inexpensive way to give a themed party a real lift!

Build A Border Room Decor ReviewHA Interiors offer a lovely range of children's décor, including but not limited to Safari, Space, Winnie the Pooh, Disney Princesses, Cars, Zoo Time and Teddy Play Time.

As Kim said, “It is nice to see that they do a couple of unisex designs but it is equally lovely to be able to buy really girly or really boyish designs. I can imagine the unisex designs would be good for a nursery when you don't know if you are having a boy or girl or for a bedroom which is shared by brother and sister.”

Final thoughts...

So what are Kim's final thoughts?

Overall I highly recommend these Build A Border sets and I will definitely buy more of them in the years to come. I think if you are renting the property you live in then these are a godsend. Sometimes when you rent you are not allowed to paint rooms and these stickers mean that you now have the chance to transform a room for your child without the need for paint or wallpaper. When the time comes that you leave the property all you have to do is peel the stickers off. So simple!”

We can't help but agree and I can't wait for Spring so we can decorate my daughter's 'little girl' room.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

by Tamsin Oxford in Features on 4 January, 2010 at 12:00 pm

There are some things about expecting a new arrival in the home that more than make up for the sleepless nights and discomforts of pregnancy, and one of these is conceptualising and creating the nursery.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

While decorating and preparing a nursery for a baby is a necessary expense there is no need for you to spend a fortune on it either. Corners can be cut without it looking cheap or falling apart after three months of use.

The first things you need to do are sit back and think about what kind of nursery you want to create and set aside an exact budget. Whether you’ve decided to wait and see what sex your baby is, or if you’ve found out already, there is so much choice out there.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

Do some research and really look into what designs or themes appeal to you. Some parents aren't keen on thrusting gender specific colours onto their offspring. Fortunately the rest of the world is starting to catch up with this more modern way of thinking. From wall paper to wall coverings to patterns to posters, you’ll soon be buried in options.

Winnie the Pooh is wonderfully neutral, appealing to both boys and girls, and Mothercare has a huge range of co-ordinated sets in soft natural colours and designs. Take some time to search online for advice on what colours work best in certain spaces and how to make a space look bigger.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

There are even colours that can affect your child negatively or positively. Red is an example of a negative colour, not in itself but rather when used extensively in a nursery. It’s not peaceful and, according to experts, it’s a stimulating colour. You don’t want to put your baby to sleep in an evironment that wakes them up and fills them with energy.

Soon you’ll have some idea as to what colours or themes or characters you want in your nursery so now is the time to get it without going over your budget. It’s also a good idea to draw up a list of the Must Haves, Want to Haves and Dream Ofs.

The first set will be things like cot beds, changing stations, storage, blackout blinds, a small sofa and so on. The Want to Haves will be the essentials but with trimmings so, for example, you want a cot bed but you want it in teak with engraved flowers. The Dream Ofs would be new carpeting instead of a large rug or new hard furnishings that aren’t essential to the baby.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

Instead of wallpaper or expensive shop-made borders consider doing your own stencils. Grab the stencils you need from cheap art and craft shops like Wall to Wall Stencils. You’ll need to practise a bit before you head on over to your nursery walls, but it isn’t that hard to do and you have the added bonus of refining your colour choices.

If you have any friends with artistic talents ask them to draw on the walls for you. There is nothing cooler than unique and original artwork in a nursery, especially since they can be as imaginative as they want. Don't forget to take photos!

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

Paint the walls yourself using quality paints at good prices. Visit our sister site HotUKDeals to find excellent offers on painting supplies and snap them up for your nursery. You don’t need to paint all the walls either (unless you need to, of course) as more modern nurseries have one or two bright splashes of colour complemented by wall borders and paintings. This will also save you on paint.

If you have hardwood floors or raggedy carpets then it’s a good idea to invest in rugs. Rugs are far cheaper than wall-to-wall carpeting and you can go wild with colours and designs. Those of you with hardwood floors really should consider a large rug as baby won’t like learning to crawl on hard surfaces, nor will the floor absorb sound and keep the room nice and cosy.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

Ikea, eBay and stores like Rug Zone have cheap and cheerful rugs that will cover most of the hard floor space. Newborns love black and white patterns and toddlers love fun designs with riotous colours. Have fun choosing these!

If your designated room lacks storage then consider getting wall mounted shelves. Children’s books are stunning to look at so your shelves can double as artistic beauty as well as a place to keep things from being eaten or stood on. There are a huge range of these available at stores like Ikea or RapidRacking.com.

You can even place toys in between baby essentials like wipes or blankets to create that showroom feel you get in many large retail stores. In fact, many a good idea can be stolen after an amble through a retail store selling nursery goodies.

Decorate Your Nursery On A Budget

Save on your curtains by buying plain fabric curtains without lining, some ribbons, some hooks and a blackout blind. The blackout blind will do the work of the lining for you, and do a much better job of it as well. Stitch the ends of your ribbons to tidy them up and then use them as tie-backs for your curtains. Measure them and then insert the hooks for them to sit in. These ribbons can be your nod to your theme, for example Winnie the Pooh printed ribbons with lemon yellow curtains.

Hopefully these ideas will inspire you and save you some money as you begin the exciting journey of planning and creating a nursery. As you progress keep asking yourself if you can make it, or do it, yourself and then give it a try. It will surprise you and the result will satisfy you even more.
