The Chicco 3 in 1 lullaby cot activity panel has won the Mother and Baby Best Newborn Toy Silver, Practical Parenting Magazine Best Buy, and the Mother and Baby Best Nursery Item silver award, so it's got to have something going for it!

It has a double function - projecting soft, coloured lights in rhythm to classical and new age melodies, or relaxing nature sounds. It also works as a nightlight too.

Not only that, you can record your voice onto it and play it back to your little one - I'm not sure how long a recording you can make, it would be cool if it was long enough for a short story!

Argos have a ceiling shadow light on sale for almost half price. It’s selling for £17.99 instead of £34.99, saving £17.

This is one of those products where you get more information from the reviews than you do from the description, so I’ll piece it all together for you.

The ceiling shadow light creates a kaleidoscope effect which can be pointed towards the ceiling for a dramatic lighting effect.  It has a 14cm diameter, which is worth thinking about because loads of reviewers say it’s larger than they anticipated.

The shadow light is mains operated, and it requires an LED bulb.

There are various patterns to choose from,  but no on/off switch – it has to be switched off at the mains, and then you have to find the image you want again when you switch it on again. It makes enough light to act as a night light.

It’s apparently really sturdy and when combined with the right music can be really relaxing.

Being scared of the dark, or not being able to find your way around a strange place in the dark, when you're a kid is just rotten.

I was scared of the dark when I was a child and I dreaded my mum coming to bed and turning the landing light off, plunging the rest of the house into darkness.

I was allowed to keep my bedroom light on, very dim, but everywhere else was dark; I wouldn't be able to see what might be lurking in it and that terrified me. I didn't want/need lighting on a scale of the Blackpool illuminations, but a little bit of a glow somewhere would have been nice; just so there wasn't total darkness.

This Disney Cars 2 in 1 night light and torch would have been just fab for me back then - when it's pointing down on its stand it's a lovely night light; if you need to get up in the night and all the lights are off, you simply pick it up and it's a torch.

Being scared or anxious of the dark is miserable.

I was scared of the dark when I was a child and I dreaded my mum coming to bed and turning the landing light off, plunging the rest of the house into darkness.

I was allowed to keep my bedroom light on, very dim, but everywhere else was dark; I wouldn't be able to see what might be lurking in it and that terrified me.

The dream glow Winnie The Pooh bear from Fisher Price has been reduced from £15.00, to £7.50 and now to £4.50 at Debenhams.

I must admit I've always been in two minds about this little bear with the glowing face – it's either going to scare the stuffing out of a toddler, or they're going to love it. At the same time, I'm not sure I like the dependence on a night light, but at least it's not on all the time.

This Pooh Bear reacts to being squeezed, when his eyes open and his face begins to glow. He has five melodies that are meant to soothe little ones, as well as nature sounds and a light-only mode.

Both customers that have rated the Dream Glow Winnie The Pooh have given him five stars, stating that he is “lovely, really cute & just the right size for a toddler” as well as that he is an “ideal gift for a 6 month old” and a “good quality product”.

I guess at £4.50 you can't really go wrong - if they child doesn't like it as a night time companion, it wasn't too big a waste. With two pregnant friends, this seems like a pretty good idea to me now, especially with free delivery.

Suitable for children aged 2 years and above, Lullaby Fifi is a great nightime friend for children.  Press her tummy to see her cheeks glow and hear her sing a soothing lullaby.  And if you press her tummy in the dark, the flowers on her pyjamas will glow.

I haven't actually laid eyes on this toy but it seems like an inspired idea for little people who are less than happy about the dark. My lads have both gone through stages of being afraid of the dark, so I love the idea of giving them a way to 'control' their fear of the dark, in the shape of a cuddly friend.

At this price this is also a sweet idea for a pressie idea for any little people you  might know who are big Fifi fans.
