Free MioSolo Cloth Nappy £4.95 Postage @ Bambino Mio Shop

Bambino Mio are offering a free MioSolo nappy with the code below. You have to pay the (rather extortionate for one item) postage fee, but even so, it amounts to less than a third of the original nappy price.

New soft cloth for the price of postage

  • Discount: Free Nappy - £10.04 saving
  • Valid on: MioSolo nappies
  • Promotion Code: EDMIOSOLO

I love the cloth nappies my baby girls wear. They are so soft and gentle on their skins, and especially now with a newborn: I love the chemical free cloth on her little body.  My best advice and tip for parents who want to switch to cloth, however, is not to go out and buy a bunch of whatever worked best for your neighbour/sister/friend’s baby. The best thing you can do is to get a variety of different nappies and try them all out before buying those that work best for your child.

Just as we don’t all buy our trousers from the same place, our babies can’t all wear the same nappies. Some work better for some than for others.

That’s why this kind of offer (and many others like it during Real Nappy Week) is so brilliant – it gives you the chance to try before you buy loads and spend lots.

Huggies Nappies Big Pack 2 For £14 @ Asda

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 14 January, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Huggies Nappies Big Pack 2 For £14 @ AsdaThe Huggies Nappies Big Packs normally sell for £11.98 each at Asda. With this deal you can get two packs for £14. There are 76 nappies in these packs, so at a total of 152 nappies that works out to 9p each. Tesco is offering the same pack at £11.98 each or two for £19.

There are also deals on smaller packs, which you can find here, with 2 for £10 and rollbacks offered. The Huggies Nappies Big Pack is for sizes 4 to 7. If you're a fan of Huggies this is an excellent deal. It seems like every baby has a different 'preference'. I always found that my son reacted to any brand other than Pampers, while my neice had the same problem but with any brand except Huggies. My best mate on the other hand found that Sainsbury's own brand worked just as well as any brand name, but not the own brand from Tesco. It is definitely an odd one!

Everyday is a world of new discoveries for a baby. Whether they’re sticking their head between their legs or trying to eat their feet, they’re always exploring the exciting world as it unfolds around them. And like any explorer, it’s important that they have the right equipment.

Huggies Super-Dry nappies offer dryness for up to 12 hours protection. With a special super stretchy waistband and breathable outer layer, your little explorer can stay dry and comfortable, meaning he can concentrate on his next exciting discovery, whatever it may be.

Huggies Super Dry Big Pack x 2 £15 @ Asda

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 9 October, 2011 at 9:00 am

Huggies Super Dry Big Pack x 2 £15 @ AsdaAsda are selling Huggies Super Dry big packs for as little as £9 each, and I've been able to find them for this price at Tesco, and slightly cheaper at Amazon. However, you can get 2 packs for £15 in the multi-buy offer, and I haven't been able to find this cheaper anywhere. It works out to (for say the Huggies Super Dry 76 big pack size 4) just 10p per nappy.

I couldn't find an option to collect in-store. Home delivery charges start at £3, depending on what times you opt for. Keep in mind that there's a minimum spend for home delivery of £25. Also, don't book a slot too far in advance, as you're charged whatever the price is on the day, not at the time you place your order.

If you shop at Asda, it might be worth going into the store to see what they've got on the shelves. As for buying four boxes, well I remember what it was like when son was still in nappies, and it doesn't take long to get through that many!

Huggies Newborn Size 2 Nappies 2 Economy Packs x 62 £8.84 @ Amazon

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 18 September, 2011 at 9:00 am

Huggies Newborn Size 2 Nappies 2 Economy Packs x 62 £8.84 @ AmazonIf you're into planning ahead, then you can get a great deal on these nappies. They're made with organic cotton, and at £8.84 per pack from Amazon it works out to 7p a nappy.

Click here for Huggies from Amazon

For some reason, I developed a horror of all chemicals when my son was born. All my cleaning products went in the bin, and were replaced with more natural products and environmentally friendly ones. All new clothes got washed several times before I put them on my son, so afraid was of the chemicals you get in the material.

If you're that way inclined too, then organic cotton will definitely be a major plus.

According to the product description, Huggies have fluffy absorbent fibres made from wood pulp sourced only from suppliers with Sustainable Forestry Certification. HUGGIES was the first nappy clinically proven to protect against nappy rash.

One reviewer on the site, who gave the nappies four stars, comments that "my wife and I found that these nappies were great during the day for regular changes but they tend to leak during the night because they don't hold enough. This isn't too much of a problem - it just means more changes during the night or early morning."

120 Size 4+ Huggies Nappies £11 @ Asda

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 August, 2011 at 8:00 am

120 Size 4+ Huggies Nappies £11 @ AsdaIf you're in the market for nappies then this is a deal for you.

Asda are selling boxes of 120 Huggies nappies in size +4 for £11.00 instead of £20.98.

The only way these Huggies nappies won't be of any use to you is

a) you use cotton nappies or,

b) you have a baby who's too big for size +4

Other than that, there's absolutely no reason why you can't take advantage of nappy deals when they come up and stash them away until your baby is big enough to wear them.

I dread to think how much money I've spent on nappies over the years, on both disposable and cotton ones.

It's probably not even a good idea to try and work it out, it would just break your heart; saving money on things like nappies whenever you can is a way to ease the financial burden just a little bit.

There's no limit on how many boxes of these Huggies nappies you can order; the only thing that will limit you is them going out of stock and, at this price, that might be quite fast.

Change the delivery method to 'in-store' to collect them from your local Asda store for free.

ZPM Junior Nappy Pack Changing Bag Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 16 April, 2011 at 5:00 pm

ZPM Junior Nappy Pack Changing Bag Review

I don't know about you, but we've gone through loads of changing bags in the last 18 months. From the super-duper massive one from a leading pharmacy, which was simply too big and too heavy for a baby-wearing mum, to a tog bag, to simply shoving a nappy and some wipes into my handbag, we've seriously gone from bag to bag as we tested them all out, and tried out new nappy bags to suit our changing needs.

Now I'm more comfortable with going out with a baby, I realise that for a trip to the shops, lunch or a play date, I do not, in fact, need one of everything and the kitchen sink, you know... in case.

We now use the ZPM junior nappy bag. A spotty bit of fabulousness.

Although, to be honest, I'm not a fan of the spots, that is its singular drawback. For the rest, this nappy bag is perfect.

It is actually meant to be a bit of a weekender, overnight or on-the-go nappy bag, and I've tried it in all three those guises, as well as simply staying at home.

When we're home, it hangs on a hook next to the changing table (i.e. bed) and from there we can access everything we need.

An excellent feature of this nappy bag is the 360 degree swivel hook, great for public rest rooms, as well as a great changing mat. There are pouches on the side, I guess for bottles or jars, and the interior holds an entire small bag of nappies, or about six to nine reuseables.

The see-through zip pockets are great for such items as keys, cards and other would-be-in-the-handbag items, such as make-up. The second pocket I use for nappy cream and other travel sized baby toiletries.

The best part of these nappy bags, in my estimation, are the two waterproof, refillable dispenser pockets for wet wipes and nappy bags. I am chronically forgetful when it comes to wet wipes and more often than not go out without them, so having them already in the bag means I now rarely end up without.

All in, I think these are the best nappy bags around, especially since they now come with a shoulder strap for easier carrying, and cost under £25.

The ZPM Junior changing bag is a definite recommend from me!

Sainsburys Baby Event - 1/3 Off Baby Essentials

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 24 March, 2011 at 9:00 am

Sainsburys Baby Event - 1/3 Off Baby EssentialsQUICK! Nip off to the Sainsbury's Baby Event, before Wednesday 30 March, and save yourself 1/3 on a ton of baby essentials; yippeee.

I do love these supermarket baby events, and the Sainsburys' Baby Event is no exception.

It probably doesn't even bare considering adding up just HOW much money we spend on nappies, wipes and other baby essentials paraphernalia; my children are 16, 15 and almost 5 now and we still get through a fair few packs of wipes between all of us.

Wipes are included in the Sainsbury's Baby Event - Huggies wipes, Johnsons wipes, Pampers wipes, Sainsbury's Eco Little Ones wipes and the normal Sainsbury's Little Ones wipes have ALL had 1/3 taken off their usual prices.

Nappies for newborns to toddlers, night time pants and swimming pants by Pampers and Huggies and Nature Babycare are all on the Sainsbury's Baby Event 1/3 off hit list too.

Then there are creams, lotions, potions and powders.

Big tubs of Sudocream (or Sod-u-cream as my daughter once called it years ago) are a must in this house too, not for nappy rash but teenage spots!  It's marvellous stuff and works miracles overnight on almost anything that needs some healing help. A 250g tub at the Sainbury's Baby Event will cost you £2.42 instead of £3.64.

But it doesn't end there.

Baby feeding - food and equipment.  Baby changing - mats, nappy sacks and all associated malarky. Baby healthcare - with a great deal on a digital thermometer and even stuff just for mum.

The Sainsbury's Baby Event started today and applies to orders being delivered by Wednesday 30 March; happy 1/3 saving!

Save on nappies - don't use them?

by Lynley Oram in Features on 30 August, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Save on nappies - don't use them?

I'd picked up the idea that going without nappies from (almost) birth was an example of extreme parenting. You know, all those child-centric ideas that are impossible to even think about achieving for most of us. Because we have to do things like earn a living as well as be a parent, and fit in time for the rest of the family.

So as always when confronted with a conundrum, I turned to the experts and to the experiences of other parents to find out more. I expected to find this just to be a US phenomenon, but that wasn't the case at all. Two of the best sites that I found were from the UK and Australia.

Convince me!

Save on nappies - don't use them?Going nappy free is an intriguing idea. Especially the thought of not having to spend a fortune each week on nappies for three years of your life (or more depending on the number of children you have). I first thought that maybe this might not be such a far-fetched idea when a friend moved to Hong Kong. The staff at the nursery were rather surprised to find her 18 month old still in nappies. 'Don't worry', they said, 'we'll handle it'. And they did. The nappies went, messes were cleaned up, and he was held over the toilet (or other receptacles to hand) whenever needed and at key points in the day. Staff would make a 'pishing' noise whenever he urinated, and this would be used to provide a cue for him to pee.

And it worked. When I told this to a mutual friend, she was astounded. As was I. We both mentioned it to our mums. Who weren't at all surprised. Seems that back in the late sixties, that's pretty much what most mums did, or at least they both had.

Save on nappies - don't use them? What had changed? In the examples we'd come across, then, there were two things in common. Warm or hot climates, and extended families as the norm. It is probably, we reasoned, something that's possible to do when childcare is shared with the family and not outsourced to babysitters, childminders and nurseries.

Recently though, I've got more involved in environmental issues and started exploring alternative parenting options. Happily these are often also cheaper and money saving options too. And going nappy free is one of them.

Show me!

First off, this is not toilet training. You're learning when the child is going to go, and helping them learn a few cues too to go when they don't necessarily need to. But they're not going to have control over their toilet functions. That's not something they'll develop until much later.

Dr Graham Clayden of Kings’ College London and consultant paediatrician at Evelina Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’, explained in Green Parenting magazine that “When the stomach fills there is a gastro-colic reflex, which causes the lower bowel to fill and defecation is then precipitated. Lots of babies defecate within 20 minutes of filling their stomachs. If that becomes totally predictable, yes, why not catch it – save a nappy, save the planet.”

Save on nappies - don't use them? The jargon then for this parenting practice is Elimination Communication, or EC for short. Plus you don't actually do without nappies entirely. The Australian website Tribal Baby, which contains a lot of excellent tips and advice for parents wanting to give this a go, puts it this way "It is about  using nappies as a tool rather than a necessity."

Help Me!

Naturally, you don't need to join a group to learn about EC, but it always helps to have support and advice. In the UK, Nappy Free Baby provides information, resources, discussion forums and links to groups around the country.

The main 'bible' on this subject appears to be an American one (don't they all!). The terms elimination communication, as well as 'natural infant hygiene' were coined by parenting author Ingrid Baur. Both appear in her book 'Diaper Free! The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene' published in 2001.

Save on nappies - don't use them?EcoBaby.co.uk summarises the main principles involved into four main components. Timing (newborns need to urinate every 10 to 20 minutes - personally that sounds like a lot of running to the potty to me!), signals (what faces, noises, body language babies use to signal that they are about to go), cueing (how we can tell the baby when it is an appropriate place to eliminate), and intuition (where you just 'know' baby needs to wee/poo).

And Finally

Are you sold on the idea? I'm not entirely but I do wish I'd had the chance to have a go. At five years old (and no chance of more) I think it is probably just a tad too late for me! What I really liked about all the advice I read on the internet is that it isn't pressurised, one-size-fits all, do it my way or the highway kind of stuff. No-one goes without nappies entirely. Everyone uses nappies as well. Sometimes just when they go out, but also at home when they're just too busy/ill/need a rest. It seems like a really good mix.

Save on nappies - don't use them?Neither does it seem to be a sure fire way to toilet train. Although from what I've read little ones have, with EC, become more toilet confident. It doesn't actually result in them learning to use the toilet independently any earlier than the development of their own bowel controls will allow them.

Post a comment - what do you think?

Pampers Easy Up Pants £2.99 @ The Co-op

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 19 April, 2010 at 9:00 am

If nappies are one of your weekly househoPampers Easy Up Pants £2.99 @ The Co-opld essentials, check out your local branch of the Co-op for Pampers Easy Up Pants, which are reduced in-store from £5.99 to £2.99 now.

Pampers Easy Up Pants are handy for toddlers on the move who are either embarking on potty-training or not quite ready to take that step. Persuading a busy tot to lie down for a nappy change is no fun for anyone, so these allow for swift nappy changes with minimum interruption.

There is some debate among parents as to whether this type of training nappy helps or hinders when it comes to potty-training but at £2.99 for a packet it's a Pampers Easy Up Pants £2.99 @ The Co-opgood time to pick them up if you've thought about giving them a try.

This promotion runs until the 4th of May but obviously there's no guaranteeing what stock will be available in at your local store at any given time - worth popping in and out over the next few weeks if this deal appeals. While you're there, don't forget to sign up for a membership card to get even more bang for your buck, and help change the world, too. Now that's a bargain.

Baby Freebies: Free sample of Huggies® Newborn

by Sarah Macdonald in Freebies on 2 March, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Baby Freebies: Free sample of Huggies® Newborn Nappies - whilst not the most glamourous baby purchase you'll make, will be one of the most regular and if you've walked down the nappy aisle at the supermarket you'll already know what a bewildering array there is.

So what do you choose?  One of the big names or a supermarket own brand?  Gender specific (if you already know or if the baby has already arrived)? Pull ups? Velcro tabs? Ones with stretchy sides?  Perhaps ones with Pooh bear on them (I always thought that was hilarious to have Pooh on nappies....but then I can be easily amused!)?  Or maybe ones that are shaped more like proper pants than a nappy?  And let's not even go DOWN the route of swimming nappies yet!

Baby Freebies: Free sample of Huggies® Newborn So here's my best advice - get hold of as many different samples of nappies as you can and then try them out.  Huggies boys nappies were great for my eldest son many moons ago, but Huggies for girls 14 years ago really didn't suit my daughter - she was more of a Pampers fit and you won't know which is which without trying them.

Thing is, you don't want to spend the best part of a tenner on a pack of nappies that might not suit you or your baby - so samples is definitely the way to go.

You don't have to register first to claim this baby freebie from the Bounty parenting club, you just need to fill in your name and addresss and they'll send your sample out in the post to you.  I do like it when things are nice and simple.

Happy Nappy choosing!

3 For 2 On Selected Nappies @ Boots

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 25 February, 2010 at 9:00 am

How many nappies does a newborn baby need? The truth is way more than you'd 3 For 2 On Selected Nappies @ Bootsexpect. Which is why it's great news that Boots are doing a 3 for 2 deal on selected Pampers nappies right now.

For some inexplicable reason it's impossible to link to all the Pampers items in the range that are part of this deal but if you follow the link above you'll see the 3 for 2 button which will take you to the deal.

Included in this offer are the Pampers Baby-Dry nappies, which have a unique extra sleep-layer to lock wetness away for up to 12 hours, so your baby gets the sleep he needs to develop. Pampers Baby-Dry is a said to be a great all round nappy suitable for use across a baby's nappy lifetime. The smallest size in this 3 for 2 offer seems to be 'Size 2 Mini' which is suitable for babies that weigh between 3 and 6kg or 6-13lb so they're probably a safe bet to stock up on if you're expecting a delivery from the Stork sometime soon!

Since these are usually £8.99 for a pack you'll get 222 nappies for £17.98. That's A LOT of nappies, even for a newborn!

20 Nappies for £1.47 @ Asda

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 2 February, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Asda's Smart Price nappies are one of the best-kept secrets of toddlerhood.20 Nappies for £1.47 @ Asda

£1.47 for a packet of 20 nappies is a bargain that is hard to beat. Asda only seem to do these nappies in one size - Junior - to fit children between 11kg and 25kg so they're really only fit toddlers on their way to potty training.

When my sprogs were little I tried to offset my guilt about landfill sites full of disposable nappies by using eco versions but there came a point, maybe when I had 2 little dudes in nappies at the same time, that the budget overtook my global idealism. Sad but true.

But that's where these nappies came in. They are a budget brand so don't expect 20 Nappies for £1.47 @ Asdathe best quality nappies in the world but if you have a toddler who is not quite ready to go nappy-free these are easy on your pocket. They're actually also surprisingly good quality for the price and once I tried these out I couldn't see any reason to part with any extra cash.

Asda have a minimum order of £25 for online deliveries though - which is a lot of packets of nappies at this price -  so you'll need to spend all the money you save  on these nappies on something else if you want to get them delivered!
