LeapFrog Software 2 For 1 @ Toys R Us

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 21 January, 2012 at 4:00 pm

LeapFrog Software 2 For 1 @ Toys R UsThere's a buy one get one free (BOGOF) offer on all LeapFrog software at Toys R Us at the moment. Have a look if you've got any LeapFrog devices. For example, this would be a saving of £19.99 if you have a Leapster.

All you have to do is select two LeapFrog items. When you checkout, the cost of the lowest priced item will be deducted. This deal ends on the 28th of January.

Many of the software cartridges were out of stock for home delivery when I checked, although you could still get them using the Click and Collect option. That's only useful if you're able to get to a store though.

However, there were programs like Ben 10 for the Tag Reader and Dora the Explorer still available for delivery as well as collection. These titles cost £12.97 each so that's a good saving.

Leapfrog My Puppy Pal Violet Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 3 December, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Leapfrog My Puppy Pal Violet Review

If your child is a Leapfrog fan, you can rest assured that My Puppy Pal Violet – or indeed it’s counterpart My Puppy Pal Scout – will be a hit.

My Puppy Pal Violet is a soft toy, primarily, but it does a lot of stuff.  The name tag – or dog tag, I guess – lights up during games and activities. The ‘activities paw’ which is the one on the right and has a balloon picture on it talks to your child about all sorts of things and plays ‘pretend’ games. It also talks about feelings.

The left hand paw has a musical note on it, which is for ‘daytime songs’. Press the pay and you’ll hear different songs that can be customised by parents in the online control panel.

The lullabies paw is the right foot which plays soothing songs for bed time, also customisable in the online parent panel, and you can choose whether it plays the songs for two, five or ten minutes, which is quite useful.

The Power Paw has the on/off switch, and when Violet isn’t played with for a while, she automatically switches off too.

As with other Leapfrog toys, Violet connects to the computer by USB so that you can personalise your child’s name and oversee their ‘learning path’. Also, if she happens to land in a pool or in the bath, a couple of days in the airing cupboard will sort her out, and she’ll still work. Thankfully (although don’t test this out unnecessarily!)

The downsides are: The box that houses the batteries only closes with Velcro and I’m not sure if it’s because she went for a swim or not (about 15 minutes after unwrapping it), but the Velcro isn’t very sticky, so the battery box is often exposed. Also if your little one goes to sleep holding Violet, you need to switch it off in the box otherwise pressing buttons during the night makes Violet sing and that wakes up a sleeping child.

Something that might matter to a lot of people is that Violet has a British accent instead of American. She also requires 3xAA batteries. To get the most out of this toy, you must have access to the internet on a computer.

It’s a great toy though and very versatile from a young age. My daughter loves it.

Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer £63.99 @ ELC

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 3 December, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer £63.99 @ ELCThe Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer is pretty much at the top of every Christmas must-have list. It is a sort of iPad tablet style toy for children. The Early Learning Centre, ELC, has the pink LeapPad Explorer's in stock. All you need to do is use the code SANTA to get 20% off AND free delivery, so you can get the Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer toy delivered to your door for £63.99.

Personally, I thought that at £79.99, and even £63.99, this is an expensive toy. But, if you've got an iPad you may think it worth every penny to keep the kids off your much much more expensive computer!

It has been sold out several times over at many retailers, with some devices going for silly prices on eBay. Seriously, did anyone actually buy at that price?

The Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer is suitable for children aged 4 to 9. It has a camera and video recorder. You do get a few apps on the device, and a game. There's also more than 100 games and apps available online. Children can choose from games, videos, e-Books, flash cards and they can even take photos or record videos. The Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer is fully compatible with the existing Explorer games library.

Leapfrog Counting Candles Birthday Cake £6.50 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 30 November, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Leapfrog Counting Candles Birthday Cake £6.50 @ Amazon

Amazon have 57% off the LeapFrog Counting Candles Birthday Cake at the moment, selling it at just £6.50 instead of £14.99.

The Counting Candles Birthday Cake is another Leapfrog innovation that sings and shines – literally… the candles light out and you can blow them out like a real cake.

Press the star button for a birthday song to play and the candles to light up. If you press the balloon button you can sing along to a counting song, or five fun songs about growing up. You can even hear other children’s thoughts on the best things about birthdays.

As with most, if not all, Leapfrog toys you can connect it to the online Learning Patch for customised learning ideas.

I’ve never seen one of these in action, and personally feel that it’s a bit limited in entertainment scope, but the reviewers sing it’s praises with 12 out of 14 giving it five stars. The two that didn’t give it five stars marked it down because of deliver – hardly the fault of the product – and another said her daughter got bored of it, but doesn’t say how old her daughter was.

The Counting Candles Birthday Cake has an age range of 12 months to three years, and requires 3 AA batteries.

Leapfrog My Pal Scout £9.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 11 November, 2011 at 10:00 am

Leapfrog My Pal Scout £9.99 @ AmazonI've written about this cute LeapFrog My Pal Scout before; I've never seen him this cheap though! He usually sells for £19.99 but Amazon are currently letting him go to new homes for £9.99.

If ignore my loathing for electrical toys that beep and sing a me, then I can safely say that I'm a bit of a fan of LeapFrog toys; you really won't go wrong with anything Leapfrog if you're looking for a present for someone little.

Their educational value is fantastic; their fun value is just as good and their build quality and value for money is excellent. Here's what the Leapfrog My Pal Scout has to offer whoever you're thinking about buying this for...

My Pal Scout is a rather adorable little interactive puppy who connects to the computer; you can tailor him to the desires and wishes of your child through music customisation and personalise learning by programming My Pal Scout with your child's name, favourite food, animal and colour.

Leapfrog My Pal Scout comes with five, pre-loaded songs. If your little one is a bit of a music fan for whom five songs just isn't going to be enough, you can download more learning tunes and lullabies from an online list of 30 songs. His learning skills include first words, daily routines, early number sense, feelings and emotions, and animals.

Leapfrog My Pal Scout has icons on his paws which indicate what each one does. There's an activities paw - Scout will talk to your child about their favourite things, count hiccups and play pretend games. One paw plays daytime music and another the night time lullabies (My Pal Scout will play up to 10 minutes of these to lull your child off to sleep) and the last paw is the power off paw.

My Pal Scout speaks with a British voice, comes with the 3xAA batteries he needs and is recommended for children who are six months or older.

LeapFrog Fridge Phonics £8.99 @ HomeBargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 22 October, 2011 at 12:00 pm

LeapFrog Fridge Phonics £8.99 @ HomeBargainsHomeBargains win the prize for currently having the lowest selling price for this LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet Set - try saying that quickly!  They are selling it for £8.99, it's usual retail price is £14.99; Amazon are the next cheapest at £10.99.

I don't remember a time when my mum wasn't studying for something.  She's a bit of a qualifications collector with multiple degrees, diplomas, hedge laying qualifications (I kid you not!) and right through my childhood there were always little revision  cards stuck up all over the kitchen.

The kitchen becoming the classroom makes sense really, it was a room in the house where she spent a fair bit of time and I could become the examiner and test her whilst she cooked dinner; the same has happened with me and my children.

This LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet set comes with all the letters of the alphabet (a good start, I'm sure you'll agree!) that can be stuck on to the fridge and introduces your child to the sounds of each letter, which are big and chunky enough for small hands to get to grips with.

Along with the letter sounds, the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet set also plays the alphabet song, so your little one can sing along blisfully unaware that they're learning as they play.  It's suitable for little ones aged two years and older and the three AAA batteries it needs are included too.

Now, if you don't live near a HomeBargains then delivery is going to cost you between 50 pence and £2.99, and this all depends on what size your parcel is classified as - click HERE to see HomeBargains home delivery pricing structure.  However, if you DO live close to a HomeBargains store then you can collect your LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet set for freeee.

Leapfrog Scribble And Write £14.79 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 24 September, 2011 at 11:00 am

Leapfrog Scribble And Write £14.79 @ Amazon

There have been a few good deals for Leapfrog Scribble And Write, but this seems to be the best one online at the moment that’s actually in stock. Amazon are offering it for £14.79, including delivery, which is 26% off the £19.99 RRP.

The Leapfrog Scribble and Write is billed as an easy way to learn writing skills and if you believe the parents on the HUKD thread, there’s great value to be had from this toy on the likes of, for example, car journeys.  The reviews on it are generally positive, and with an age range of 3  - 6 years, it should be in commission for some time – not  bad for the price.

So what does it do?

It’s a toy that helps children trace the lights to get practice drawing simple shapes and pictures, theen graduate to learning upper and lowercase letters with step by step guidance. It includes learning games to help reinforce letter recognition and pencil control skills as well as phonic reading.

The Scribble and Write uses a single retraceable surface for ease of use and portability.

As is usual with Leapfrog products, parents can connect online to the Leapfrog Learning Path for customised learning insights and ideas to help expand the learning.

Musical Movers Choo Choo £4.99 @ Mothercare

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 10 September, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Musical Movers Choo Choo £4.99 @ Mothercare

There’s a whopping 66% off the Musical Movers Choo Choo toys at Mothercare. While it’s been that price for a while, it’s still a great price.  Reduced from £14.99 to £4.99, it’s a great price for a fun toy for kidlets aged nine months and over.

My daughter has a little musical train that choo choo’s it’s way around the living room, and I adore it – not least because it holds probably a good fifteen tunes, meaning it doesn’t drive me crazy quite as quickly, and is one of the few toys that I do replenish the batteries when needed.

The Leapfrog Musical Movers Choo  Choo train sings a counting song. It teaches letters, numbers, vehicle names and of course, music.

While it’s not a particularly new offer, and is at that price regularly, it’s a fab price if you’re looking for Christmas or birthday gifts under a fiver.  Postage is a rather hefty £4.95, however,  so you’re better off picking it up in store, or reserving for pick-up. (Alternative, you can pick it up at Play.com for £5.00 including postage!)

Leapfrog Interactive Explorer Globe £39.99 @ Leapfrog Store

There’s a whopping £36.00 off the Leapfrog  Interactive Explorer Globe, which is now £39.99 instead of £77.99. The best price we’ve had it on PlayPennies before was £59.99 from Amazon.

It gives accurate, up to date information on population statistics, currency, music, size of the country and what time of day it is there.

The Globe also tells you the distance and flying time between two points on the  globe as well as coming with challenging learning games for the  whole family to play.  The game asks you to find various points and you must race against the clock to find them. There are multi-player options and different levels of difficulty, including progressively helpful hints for the younger players.

Leapfrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 16 July, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Leapfrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set Review

The Leapfrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set really took me by surprise. At first I didn’t think it was going to be a toy that was going to stick around for very long, but once my daughter got her hands on it, I realised how wrong I was.

Firstly, I love the fact that it’s magnetic. I have stuck it on the bottom half of the fridge/freezer now, with all the animal inserts and it’s a fantastic distraction when I’m working in the kitchen.  The Magnetic ‘barn’ doors have two slots for the 5 animals – a cow, horse, duck , sheep and pig – that are split in two.

The child can match the animal parts, or mix them up. Each time the child presses the animal a song plays, so, for example if there’s a cow head and duck body, it’ll be a song about the cow-duck or duck-cow if it’s visa versa. There are 25 combinations, but although the names change, the tune stays the same.  I also like that the animal sounds are quite realistic, so it’s pretty educational in that sense – so long as you look past the mix and match animals!

There’s also a chicken in the ‘loft’ of the ‘barn’ and he sings songs too.  It sounds terribly simple, and it really is, but it’s very entertaining too, at least for toddlers.

There are two volume settings, which I always appreciate in toys, and although they are separate, the animal ‘disks’ aren’t particularly small, so shouldn’t pose a choking hazard.  One thing that could have been improved is a pouch of something to keep the unused animal parts in, because they should stay on the fridge, but do end up all over the house!

This is a fab little set, and it provides multiple short bursts of entertainment that add up to hours.

These are currently on offer at Leapfrog for £7.49, which is half price.

Leapfrog Musical Movers Counting Choo Choo

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 12 July, 2011 at 8:00 am

Leapfrog Musical Movers Counting Choo ChooPlay are currently selling this Leapfrog Musical Movers Counting Choo Choo for £3.99; Mothercare are selling it for £4.99 and it's rrp is £14.99.

By all accounts this Leapfrog Musical Mover Counting Choo Choo has one of THE most annoying songs ever!

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5 all aboard the counting train....6, 7, 8, 9, 10 choo choo, Tickets please...." is how it goes, according to an HUKDer who can't get it out of their head.

I think the Leapfrog "I'm Farmer Tad, I had some pigs, oink-oink-oink-oink-oink!"' farmhouse electronic cube book thing my youngest was given for Christmas one year could rival that!

Whether or not it's annoying, you can't argue against the fact that kids LOVE this sort of thing.

And I ask you, what price is the early learning of numbers  for your child compared to a bit of having to put up with a song that will haunt you for many MANY years to come?

I wish you could hear me giggling away to myself.  You see, I'm far far away from having to consider toys like this and know that it won't unexpectedly pop up as a Christmas gift for any of my children.

Delivery is free with Play and you have zakeriyah at HUKD to thank for this post (I'm just the messenger *grin*)

Leapfrog Up To 42% Off @ Play.com

Leapfrog Up To 42% Off @ Play.com

Play.com is offering up to 42% off Leapfrog toys and games, with free delivery.

While the ad on Play.com says that there’s up to 20% off in the sale, but some of the items have as much as 42% off.  That said, the Ben 10 Alien Force Wanted Kevin Levin LeapFrog Tag book has 50% off,  and is £6.39, so it seems as if Play.com can’t really make up their minds – in our favour though!

Another great offer is the LeapFrog: Scribble And Write for £14.29 instead of £19.99. With this, children trace the lights to get practice drawing simple shapes and pictures, then graduate to learning upper- and lowercase letters with step-by-step guidance.

The very cute My Pal Violet has 35% off, making here £12.99 instead of £19.99 and comes with 5 pre-loaded songs, or you can select and download your choice of learning tunes and lullabies from an online list of 30 songs. Press a paw to play music, learning songs or games!

There are 80 LeapFrog games and books on offer, which gives you plenty choices for starting or adding to you LeapFrog collection.

Half Price Leapster 2 Games @ The Leapfrog Store

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 20 June, 2011 at 10:00 am

Half Price Leapster 2 Games @ The Leapfrog StoreThe Leapfrog store are selling Leapster 2 games for half price at the moment; hurrah!

So you've bought a reasonably inexpensive Leapster 2 only to discover the games can cost almost as much as the console did, well now is the time to buy games in advance and stash them for birthdays and Christmas time.

There are quite a few half price Leapster 2 games up for grabs and they cost £9.99 now instead of £19.99.

There's a nice mix for boys and girls; my youngest would go mad for the Star Wars games - Star Wars Jedi Reading and Star Wars Jedi Maths.

The other titles include:

  • Disney Pixar Up!
  • Scooby Doo
  • Disney Priness
  • Go Diego, Go! Animal Rescuer
  • Wolverine
  • Ratatouille
  • Sonic X
  • Wall-E

Delivery will set you back a mere £1.50 and there are other various Leapfrog deals up for grabs at the Leapfrog Store too.

My youngest had a couple of Leapfrog bits and pieces bought for him when he was around two and three, he loved them and still goes back to 'visit' his electronic Farmer Tad book every now and again when he thinks no one's looking.

LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal £19.42 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 28 March, 2011 at 7:00 pm

LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal £19.42 @ AmazonThe Leapfrog Tag Junior Reading System has been around for quite a while now but it's still rather an expensive little item, so £10.57 off the price is pretty good, I think.

According to the Amazon blurb, the Tag Junior Book Pal “encourages toddlers to explore while helping build confidence with books.”

Each Tag Junior book introduces a different preschool skill such as the alphabet, counting or social play through 24 book-based activities and more than 130 audio responses. Open-ended questions and fun sound effects encourage children to take charge, as they touch any part of any page to bring words, pictures or activities to life.

This green Tag Junior Book Pal comes with the book “If I Were” included, as well as a USB cable and a parent guide. Whether or not this is a little OTT (over the top) for something aimed at kids aged 0 – 4 or not, I can't quite decides, but after your child has played, you can connect the Tag Junior Book Pal to the online LeapFrog Learning Path to see your child’s progress and get printable activities to expand the learning.

This one comes in green, and you can have it in under two days.

I do love a good activity table and this one ticks all the boxes for me.  The Leapfrog Learn and Groove Musical Table is suitable for little people who are six months and over; it almost seems a shame they can’t enjoy it from birth – well they could I suppose if YOU played with it with them on your lap!

With this Leapfrog Learn and Groove Musical Table your youngster will be able to unleash their inner musical genius.  Think Mozart! Think Beethoven!  Think Tchaikovsky!!

Ok, maybe not, but who cares?  Your mini groover will be having so much fun and there’ll be time for classical genius later.

The legs of the Leapfrog Learn and Groove musical table come off too; I think this is a brilliant idea as it means young ones who can’t stand yet can still enjoy playing with it.

Everything is brightly coloured to engage and excite your child’s senses and there are 15 musical activities in English and French with over 40 songs and melodies – now isn’t that a GOOD idea, the introduction of different languages at the earliest opportunity….what a shame the Government haven’t caught on to this yet – LEAP FROG for Government I say!

Oh and those lovely people over at Leapfrog have also given the Learn and Groove Musical Table volume control; marvellous.

The Leapfrog Learn and Groove Musical Table needs 3 AA batteries which aren’t included - well, I suppose we can't have everything - but even so, this is  still a great deal as elsewhere it’s selling for between £25 and £35.
