Spring Blossom Charmed By Accurist Ladies Watch £27.50 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 10:00 am

Spring Blossom Charmed By Accurist Ladies Watch £27.50 @ AmazonI was going to write about the Charmed by Accurist ladies watches as a 5pm review because I have one and absolutely adore it - however, a couple of deals have popped up that are quite simply too good to run the risk of missing out on if Amazon start putting the price up.

The usual (and genuine) retail price for the Spring Blossom and Cherry Blossom Charmed by Accurist ladies watches are £110, Amazon are currently selling them for £27.50!

If you're a fan of Pandora bracelets then you may just fall in love with this Spring Blossom Charmed by Accurist ladies watch - think Pandora, or Camillia and others, combined with a very unobtrusive watch face.

I love elegant bracelet watches and I also love Pandora bracelets, but I didn't want to wear something on each wrist so when I stumbled across the Charmed by Accurist watches (on a British Airways flight of all places) I knew it was the perfect compromise.

The Spring Blossom Charmed by Accurist watch comes with four round glass bead charms - two very pretty pale pink and two slightly darker - and four silver coloured metal heart-shaped beads with inset crystals.  The watch face is mother of pearl and has a crystal set at 12 o'clock.

The ends of the bracelet unscrew so you can add more beads and charms if you want to (it's compatible with all the main charm and bead brands) and has a lobster claw fastening.

There are a couple of things you should know about all the Charmed by Accurist watches

  1. They're not waterproof and
  2. They are REALLY tricky to do up on your own - however, with a bit of practice and finding the best way for you this does get easier.

If you're looking for a watch that's different and pretty, or a present for a special lady in your life, then really do go and take a look at the Charmed by Accurist watches - there are lots of different styles and most have discounts on them at the moment too, although not as low as the two Blossom watches.

Happy being charmed!

Sterling Silver Locket And Necklace £19.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 27 April, 2012 at 10:00 am

Sterling Silver Locket And Necklace £19.99 @ ArgosIf you're after a little 'something special' for someone (and I'm not talking about Justin of Cbeebies fame) then you might want to take a look at this sterling silver locket and necklace that's currently on sale at Argos - it's usual price is £29.99 but you can grab one for £19.99.

I really like this sterling silver locket and necklace because it's elegant and simple - it doesn't have flowers engraved on it, or teddy bears, which makes it suitable for younger or older girlies.

The chain is a silver curb chain and measures 18 inches; the locket is made from solid silver is hinged on one side and measures 21mm x 21mm.

Lockets have always intrigued me - I don't own one as I'm not really a necklace person - but whenever I see someone wearing one I want to know what they keep inside it; my daughter was given a locket and necklace as a gift when she was a bridesmaid and she loved it.

Your sterling silver locket and necklace comes presented in a gift box and is available for both home delivery - which will cost you £5.95 - or in-store collection (subject to stock) which is free.

Cutey Bracelets Review

Cutey Bracelets Review

I am quite ridiculously sentimental in a way that my practicality would hide rather well. Each of my piercings have special memories, as does each of my tattoos. But as I’m not a punk rocker or a teen ager, I don’t particularly want to be covered in metal or pictures, so have had to find a new form of commemoration and remembrance: Jewellery.

I think that’s why Cutey appeals to me. The descriptions on individual items are romantic and dreamy, like “This rich and unusual bracelet is full of remembrance, memory and wisdom” or “this bracelet embraces the soil and foliage, the roots and the branches of life on our planet.” Of course, that’s all fine and well, but it doesn’t really mean anything, does it? Except that it speaks to the intention of the pieces of jewellery, and makes them romantic and classical.

I have the Momus style with beautiful glass beads, two star charms and a tower charm – you can choose tower or bell with this style – to signify a place of safety.

Quality wise, I think these bracelets belie their costume jewellery prices:

They’re made out of good materials, and feel weighty and look expensive. They certainly don’t look like they cost as little as £12.99.

The clasp is the most unusual I’ve ever seen. I can’t explain it, but have a look at the picture. That clasp opens to have two distinctive parts, one that links in to the other. It’s unusual and lovely and looks like another charm.

When the clasp is open, the charms and glass beads can be pulled off the bracelet so you can change the order or add and remove them to personalise it to your own style.

The only downside to the bracelet is that it is a one-sized bracelet, and I found it quite tight fitting on my large-ish wrists. But most watches and bracelets usually sit quite tightly on my arm, so if you’re blessed with delicate bones, or even normal sized wrists, it won’t be a problem at all. Even so, I can still close it – it just doesn’t jangle on my arm.

Apart from the actual appearance, the presentation is nice enough too. Each bracelet comes in a sealed see-through bag, with a ‘Cutey’ tag attached to it with black ribbon. It’s all very elegant and pretty, and at that price, is a total steal.

Gumigem Teething Necklace Review

Gumigem Teething Necklace Review

I don't wear jewellery very often, but when I do, my 1 year old baby always pulls and sucks at it, and this is especially true of when I wear a necklace. Some of my necklaces are quite fragile, and I worry that they might break, or beads would get swallowed, so I've started avoiding wearing them when baby is close enough to get her chops round them!

I got one of these teething necklaces from Gumigem. They were invented by a mum with a similar mindset to me, who wanted to wear something safe that her baby could still grab and chew if they wanted to. The Gumigem necklaces are made from a similar silicone material to that of most baby teethers.

I got a plain purple heart shaped necklace, but I see that there are loads of other fab colours to choose from too. I particularly like the Sea Sparkle (pictured top left).  I think these would make a nice gift for a new mum, they do a few combo sets as well.

My baby really likes to chew on the Gumigem necklace. When she first sunk her incisors into the necklace, she left quite deep marks which I thought were not going to fade away. But the material crept back into its own shape after a minute or so. I decided to bite the necklace myself to see what it was like - it's very tough and you wouldn't be able to bite a piece off it. The cord is a long, strong, string and unbreakable to baby, with a safe clasp at the top.

The Gumigem necklace actually sits on my office desk at home, and I pop it on from time to time when I am trying to keep the baby happy while still doing a little bit of one-handed work on the computer. She enjoys fiddling and biting it.

In conclusion, the Gumigem necklace is not the piece of jewellery I would reach for when going for a posh night out, but it is perfect for wearing during the day, when there's a baby hanging off my hip.

60% Off Top Watch Brands @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 1 November, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Although time might be a touchy subject with those of us struggling to adjust to the clocks going back, I couldn't resist browsing through the selection of beautiful watches reduced by 60% on Amazon.

I have what has to be considered a hearty collection of watches, and I do love each and every one. Admittedly I've not taken my current watch off for over a year, but there was a time when I mixed and matched watches to clothes like most women do handbags or shoes.

With brands such as Police, Quiksilver, Timex and D&G included in the offer, there's sure to be a little something to suit every taste and budget.

For £17.99 (from £59.99) for example, you could find yourself the happy owner of a simple Timex Ladies Watch UG0085Q4 Gift Box Set with a matching Silver Bracelet. For a bit more, Sekonda Ladies Gold Watch Set 4232G.42 with gold plated stone watch white face and gold plated stone bracelet might be your new favourite at £25.99 (was 64.99), while the Nautica Watch BFD 101 Gents Watch at £60.00 (down from £150.00) could make a lovely gift.

Personally, if anyone's in a giving mood, I'm quite partial to the D&G Ladies Watch (£50.00 down from £125.00) myself.

I have to hand it to my husband though – I've not seen a swifter credit card hiding manoeuvre in my life.

Review: The Power Of The Magnet And The Volcano

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 18 May, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Review: The Power Of The Magnet And The Volcano

I was both excited and concerned by this particular review. On one hand magnetic arm bands saved me from most of the horror of hyperemsis gravidarium (excessive nausea and vomiting in pregnancy) but on the other hand I wasn’t entirely convinced that they worked.

Review: The Power Of The Magnet And The VolcanoWe received a stunning haematite bracelet for PlayPennies to review from Magnetic Therapy Ltd. and I was smitten. The bracelet doesn’t look all arty farty or weird, instead the purple stones complemented most of my wardrobe and people commented on how pretty it was.

Most people were taken aback when I told them it was a magnetic therapy bracelet – they had no idea they could look so stylish.

Now the background to the use of haematite is this – it’s a volcanic substance that is similar to magnetite and lodestone that is naturally magnetic and is believed to be a cure for depression (or melancholia in older texts – I just love that word). Considered a semi-precious stone, it catches the light beautifully and these bracelets come in a strength of 1200 gauss.

Magnetic therapy is believed to offer improvements in mental status, brain development, circulation, diabetes, headaches, stress and even to control smoking urges. The different designs and magnets used will affect exactly how the magnets work with your body and how well they react. Necklaces and bracelets are the most common.

Review: The Power Of The Magnet And The VolcanoAs I wasn’t feeling particularly depressed, I can’t testify to my stunner of a bracelet having cured me of depression, or eased it anyway, but I can say that I did feel a little bouncier. Whether this is because of the bracelet or is psychosomatic I can’t say. Not that I care really, no matter which factor affects my mood when I wear it, it still works.

I did find the bracelet quite tight which wasn’t very pleasant. Although I’m sure that’s the whole point of magnetic therapy, I prefer looser bands on my wrists or they tickle a bit. Yes, I may be a bit odd, I know. The haematite bracelets retail for £16.95 and there is quite a large range to choose from, and the standard magnetic bracelets are £14.95 or two for £25.90.

And Finally

Review: The Power Of The Magnet And The VolcanoOverall I really liked this product, even though I didn’t actually expect to. My inner cynic was screaming a lot of the time but whenever I told people what I was wearing, the conversation always turned to someone having had a miraculous experience with magnets. It’s definitely a fascinating subject and I lost many hours to researching and reading about it.

The bracelets are stylish and there is an impressive range to choose from and the price point is reasonable. You can buy really awful sparkly tat that falls apart after two uses or you can get one of these (either as a bracelet or a necklace) and it will last forever and have potentially wonderful effects on your health. I know which one I choose, I already got one for a friend that’s planning her wedding. For stress, obviously...
