Merry Madagascar/Penguins Of Madagascar Xmas Caper £4.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 21 November, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Merry Madagascar/Penguins Of Madagascar Xmas Caper £4.99 @ HMV

HMV is selling a double DVD with Merry Madagascar and Penguins of Madagascar Xmas Caper for £4.99 including free delivery. This is a nice saving for two lovely Christmas themed DVDs to bring some of that festive cheer to life.

The two DVDs have those adorably insane penguins from Madagascar involved in some bizarre Christmas capers and will utterly enchant the little ones in your home. Actually, those penguins are so funny even you will probably enjoy the two movies.

In the first movie, Santa and his reindeer crash onto the island of Madagascar and it’s up to those whacky penguins to save Christmas. In Penguins of Madagascar Christmas Caper there are a bunch of episodes from the classic TV show. So not a second movie then, but rather a series of shorts.

These would make lovely stocking fillers but as dispatch is one to two weeks it is best you nab them now, just in case…

Array Of Board Games £5 @ HMV

HMV has put an array of board games on sale for as little as £5 and, of course, they all come with free delivery. These games are coming at just the right time what with the summer holidays around the corner and us needing fun things to do.

Titles included in the £5 sale are Harry Hill TV Burp, Pass the Pigs, Twister Refresh, Doctor Who, Monpoly Family Guy, Twilight, Monopoly Revolution, Scrabble and Bananagrams.

Most of these games are pretty cool and some of them have been marked down from as much as £21 to only £5. There is also Monty Python Really Silly and tow different types of Doctor Who boardgame, making this a lovely time to nab presents too.

I adore sales like this for my Present Cupboard as it means that when Christmas rolls around, and these are all back to full price, people think I spent a fortune on them! I didn’t but, hey, isn’t it supposed to be the thought that counts?

The Ultimate Bananaman Collection £4.99 @ HMV

Do you remember Bananaman? Yeah, me too. He was particularly genius, I thought. Well, the Ultimate Bananaman Collection has been marked down to £4.99 at HMV and that lovely price includes delivery.

The Ultimate Bananaman Collection has been marked down from £14.99 to £4.99, a saving of £10, and includes forty episodes of the classic children’s series about the secret identity of schoolboy Eric. Whenever he eats a banana he becomes something akin to a superhero and does all sorts of fabulous things.

This particular series is very entertaining and would make a lovely present for kids over the upcoming holidays. Perhaps as something to keep them busy while you desperately try to juggle work and child commitments?

The Ultimate Bananaman Collection has enough episodes to keep even the biggest fan busy for quite some time.

Tangled PreOrder Blu-ray £3.99 DVD £2.99 @ HMV (Expired)

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 29 March, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Tangled PreOrder Blu-ray £3.99 DVD £2.99 @ HMV (Expired)

HMV are selling Tangled, the latest in the Disney series of children’s tales, for very little monies. The preorder versions in both Blu-ray and DVD are extremely cheap at £3.99 and £2.99 respectively, and they come with free delivery too.

Tangled is apparently adorable. My husband took our daughter to see it and she utterly loved it. He was indifferent, obviously, but I’ve had other mums tell me that they loved it too. It is a twist on the classic tale of Rapunzel and well worth getting for this low price.

Tangled sees Rapunzel as a rebellious teen meeting up with a charming bandit, Flynn Rider, and going forth on a magical journey that involves laughter, suspense and, of course, magical hair.

Tangled looks set to become another Disney classic, and I know my daughter feel utterly in love with it. I am definitely nabbing the preorder DVD of the movie, especially at this fabulously low price.

Hanna Barbara Collection 10 DVDs £13.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 9 March, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Hanna Barbara Collection 10 DVDs £13.99 @ HMV

This Hanna Barbara Collection consists of ten DVDs that include all the cartoon classics from the past few decades. Hanna Barbara created some of the all time cartoon classics like the Flintstones, Wacky Races, Dastardly and Mutley and more…

The Hanna Barbara Collection includes ten DVDs inside a nice presentation box that will look fabulous on your shelf. The site really does not give you any information at all. It amazes me sometimes – how can places like this sell products if they don’t tell people what they are?

Anyway, thanks to our intrepid HUKD explorer, we discovered that the 10 DVDs included in the Hanna Barbera box are: The Flintstones, Wacky Races, Dastardly and Mutley, Penelope Pitstop, Top Cat, and Hong Kong Phooey.

There are one or two volumes of each cartoon series inside the box set. So Top Cat, Hong Kong Phooey, Wacky Races and Dastardly and Mutley include volumes one and two.

The Hanna Barbara box set is down from the usual price of £27.99 and, if you look at the cost of things like the Wacky Races Complete Collection, they are selling those for £25!

Paddington Bear Complete DVD Collection £4.25 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 28 January, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Paddington Bear Complete DVD Collection £4.25 @ HMV

Aaah, Paddington Bear. He’s simply the best bear ever and I share his fondness for marmalade sandwiches. I am gutted he sold out to Marmite, but I am pleased with this ace deal.  Here is the entire Paddington Bear collection for £4.25 from HMV, including free delivery, with a saving of £15.74 off the original price.

I used to love Paddington Bear as a kid. I loved the stories, the animation, the relaxed feel of the whole series. It rocks. Michael Bond’s series of books came to life in 1976 and have been a stalwart of childhood ever since.

I can’t wait to introduce my kids to the bear that was found at Paddington Station, the bear who loves marmalade, and who lives with Mr and Mrs Brown at 32 Windsor Gardens. This set includes all 56 classic episodes along with three feature length specials.

Awesome.

The Wombles Complete Collection £5.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 17 November, 2010 at 6:00 pm

The Wombles Complete Collection £5.99 @ HMV

The Wombles! I loved the Wombles as a kid and this collection is just ace at this price. Only £5.99 including free delivery, you get the entire collection of 60 episodes, and nab an ace Christmas gift.

Remember the song? The moment I saw this deal I was humming the tune in my head. I can’t believe I still know all the words. This is an ace chance to introduce my child to a series that captivated me when I was a child, I only hope she finds it as entertaining as I did.

The Wombles were introduced to us all back in 1973 and they are still clearing up that rubbish that we humans leave behind. Poor things, they’re probably feeling the sting of an increased population and more rubbish than ever before.

Nab this as a stocking filler or as a Christmas present for a child or two, and enjoy watching them all again along with them.

Bob The Builder Series 1 & 2 DVD £4.25 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 27 October, 2010 at 8:00 am

Bob The Builder Series 1 & 2 DVD £4.25 @ HMV

Bob the Builder Series 1 and 2 on DVD for £4.25 instead of £12.99? Yes please!

Well, I say 'yes please' but my youngest has grown out of 'Bobber' (as he used to call him) and it's Star Wars: Clone Wars and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien all the way now.

I still love Bob the Builder though...but not enough to want to sit down and watch series 1 and 2 in their entirety - so put your credit cards away, no really...you don't need to have them sent to me for Christmas, it's fine.

If your little one is a Bob the Builder fan though then having something like this on stand-by isn't a bad idea.

I'm not the sort of parent who likes to see my kids sat in front of the TV all day (hurrah for pin protection on all channels on Sky - the teenagers HATE it *grin*) but sometimes the stillness it affords can come into its own.

Ever tried getting a child to rest when they're not feeling so great, but haven't been knocked off their feet yet with whatever they're coming down with?  Sitting down with them in front of their favourite programme - Bob the Builder in this case - solves that in one easy step, and is a good excuse to nab some cuddles too.

Rainy days when you've exhausted all painting, drawing and creating activities? Bung on Bob the Builder - it worked for me anyway, good old Bob!

There's no delivery to pay on orders within the UK from HMV so £4.25 is all you need to part with.

Fireman Sam DVD Collection £3.49 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 20 October, 2010 at 8:00 am

Fireman Sam DVD Collection £3.49 @ HMVThis Fireman Sam three DVD collection is a smoking hot deal from HMV - it's been reduced from £12.99 down to £3.49.

Fireman Sam has been in my life since I was about 14 (which is quite a while ago now!).

For some unknown reason he attained cult status at my school. Anyone who was anyone would rush home to watch the latest episode, full of high drama, on kids TV.

If you didn't know all the words to the Fireman Sam theme, well...it was just too awful to contemplate and I can still sing-a-long-a-Fireman Sam to this very day!

"...he's always on the scene, Fireman Sam, and his engine's bright and clean, Fireman Sam, you can-not ignore...Sam is the hero next doorrrr!"

This came in very useful when my youngest was tiny and couldnt'/wouldn't sleep - singing this very quietly, walking around in a dark room would send him off within minutes...maybe it was just my bad singing that did it, who knows!

There are three DVDs in this Fireman Sam DVD collection, full of great Fireman Sam adventures with the all the folks from Pontypandy.

And of course, apart from the being rivetting entertainement for youngsters (and strange teenagers), there is the all-important and ever-present fire safety message. I wonder how many kids have actually learned and remembered some fire safety courtesey of Fireman Sam?

How I Met Your Mother Seasons 1&2 £10.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 8 October, 2010 at 12:00 pm

How I Met Your Mother Seasons 1&2 £10.99 @ HMV

This is a fantastic show. I haven’t seen it from the beginning, I’ve only managed to catch an episode here and there, but what I’ve seen has been pretty darn funny. This is wry, dry and clever entertainment that doesn’t fall prey to the usual US slush. It’s only £10.99 for both seasons 1 and 2, which is a fabulous deal from HMV

Buying the boxsets will also get you 1099 purehmv points (if you happen to be a collector of such things, and will also be delivered to your door for absolutely no cost at all.

This series has the main character, Bob Saget, recounting to his children how he met their mother. He narrates from the year 2030 and it offers you some fantastically clever and funny moments.

There is quite an interesting history about the show and how it came about on Wikipedia. I enjoyed reading that almost as much as I’ve enjoyed some parts of the show!

2 For 1 Disney DVDs £12.66 @ HMV

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 27 September, 2010 at 7:00 pm

2 For 1 Disney DVDs £12.66 @ HMVHMV have a BOGOF offer on Disney DVDs meaning that for £12.66, a saving of 50%, you can have two children's movies from the extensive collection – that's double the family-friendly fun!

While I am no fan of children's TV – it's not the shows, but the advertising that drives me to the brink – I have always been one of those people who can't wait to have a child so that I could take said child to see the plethora of Disney movies that come out in time for the school holidays. I'm also one of those people who started buying up Disney DVDs long before I even had that twinkle in my eye, for the babies I'd one day have!

2 For 1 Disney DVDs £12.66 @ HMVSo, for that secret underclass of those people, this is the ideal opportunity to stock up. Of course, it's also a great time to start thinking of stocking fillers – well, not really, but when opportunity knocks...

HMV have great classic titles, such as Dumbo and Pinnochio as well as the recent releases such as Up, Cars and Toy Story 2 included in this buy one get one free offer. Whereas they would normally set you back £12.66 each, you're now getting two for the price of one, effectively making them £6.33 each.

The Lovely Bones DVD £5.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 8 September, 2010 at 10:00 am

The Lovely Bones DVD £5.99 @ HMV

If you’re one of the brave parental souls who could get through the book and the movie, then this is definitely a keeper. Down to only £5.99 at HMV including delivery, the Lovely Bones is a rich, heartbreaking and dramatic story that will grip you from the start.

I have to confess that when I was first given the book I managed the first chapter and then had to put it down. I couldn’t bring myself to read any further as the thought of that happening to my daughter was too vivid and horrifying for words.

I did eventually read it to completion, it was gripping and wonderfully poignant, but I think I went through several boxes of tissues in the process. The movie stays as true to the book as is possible with the time limit but, for me, didn’t quite do it justice.

Although many people disagree with me as the reviews have all been sterling. It is as poignant and heartbreaking as the books so please, bring tissues. It is also a lovely stocking filler for Christmas.

Alice In Wonderland Wii Game £12.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 22 August, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Alice In Wonderland Wii Game £12.99 @ HMV

My daughter loves the movie, as do I, so the next logical step is to look into buying the game, and this low price makes it that little bit more affordable. Down to £12.99 at HMV and including free shipping and a whack of purehmv point, it’s quite a good deal.

The game takes you into a topsy-turvy world where Alice and her friends – Mad Hatter, March Hare, Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit – have to defeat the Red Queen and the Jabberwocky. Each of the different characters have unique abilities to help Alice along the way.

She has to evade traps, solve puzzles and find secret places in the game. You can combine powers to solve the more difficult puzzles and enjoy many hours of fun. The game follows the same storyline as the film and includes lots of extras to make it replayable.

I haven’t heard much about the game so I’m not sure if it’s a winner or a dud, but it should be a great way to entertain the kids over the school holidays.

Disney Robin Hood DVD £6.49 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 August, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Disney Robin Hood DVD £6.49 @ HMVDisney's animated version of Robin Hood is one of my most favourite and I've already ordered my copy!

There are so many endearing characters in this cute little movie and, true to form, my favourites are the bad guys.

The Sheriff of Nottingham is a fat, lazy slob; Prince John is just a snivelling, weak and cowardly character who tweeks his ear and sucks his thumb when he's upset or tired, and was voiced perfectly by Peter Ustinov.

It disturbs me slightly that it's classed as a classic - I'm hoping it's to do with the story rather than it's age, because Disney's Robin Hood was made in 1973 which would make me a classic too!!

Disney Robin Hood DVD £6.49 @ HMVIf you don't have this DVD in your collection then I strongly recommend that you add it. It remains true to the original story, is action-packed and the story line moves fast enough to keep young minds interested but not so fast that it passes in a blur and they can't keep up.

HMV have reduced the price of Disney's Robin Hood down to £6.49 from £17.68 and there's no delivery to pay on UK orders either.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory £7.99 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 1 August, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory £7.99 @ HMV

This is a family classic done the way family classics should be done  - with laughter, snappy lines, clever dialogue and smart witticism. As opposed to the terrifying Michael Jackson-esque horror that was created by Johnny Depp et all a few years back. Now selling for £7.99, here is the original Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with good old Gene Wilder in the lead.

For those of you shaking their heads in bewilderment, allow me to explain. This here movie is  the first and has a spectacularly insane Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. The movie brings the classic book to brilliant life with great songs, fizzling characters and lots of laughs.

I really do recommend you watch this version of the book-to-movie realm for Charlie And The Chocolate Factory as it is truly lovely in every way. Sure, it’s dated. But that actually seems to add to the charm. Definitely worth adding to any family DVD collection.

Toy Story 1 & 2 Box Set £9.99 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 19 July, 2010 at 8:00 am

Toy Story 1 & 2 Box Set £9.99 @ HMVI wonder if the people who dreamt up the original concept for Toy Story knew it would be as big as it is...

Woody the Cowboy, Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Slinky, Mr Potato Head and every one of the other characters have such strong identities that they all deserve a mention, but it would get a bit boring.

I'm sure you have your favourites and those who really irritate you - Bo Peep is the irritating one for me, Buzz is so arrogant in the first movie he's fabulous and Mr Potato Head wishing for a Mrs Potato Head tickles me no end.

For those of you with younger children you might already have Toy Story 1 and, maybe, 2 on DVD already but for us parents with teenagers (like me) will only have these movies on good old VHS tapes!

This makes £9.99, with free UK delivery, for the 2-disc DVD box set a complete bargain especially when the rrp should be £22.10.

Toy Story 1 & 2 Box Set £9.99 @ HMVAsk anyone for a Toy Story catchphrase and they'll most likely come back with "To infinity...and BEYOND!" - with the enduring appeal of the Toy Story movies and the pomp and ceremony currently surrounding the release of Toy Story 3, I think infinity and beyond is the answer to the question: How long will Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 be popular for?

In The Night Garden: Hello Everyone £12.93 @ HMV

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 7 July, 2010 at 4:00 pm

In The Night Garden: Hello Everyone £12.93 @ HMVEverybody's favourite loony blue man/thing/creature and his rather insane friends are now available for hours of watching fun on this DVD box set. Down from £29.99 to only £12.93, you save £17.06 and you'll make Iggle Piggle fans hugely happy.

The disc includes the following titles: Hello Igglepiggle, Hello Upsy Daisy, Hello Makka Pakka, and Hello Tombliboos. If you're a parent who's sat in front of the TV early in the morning or late at night, desperately trying to keep your eyes open after a long day (or night) you'll probably recognise most of the episodes.

Although, I have to add that this is a pretty surreal thing to watch when you're exhausted. Suddenly you start to wonder where these little blue people have come from and why the short fat people seem to keep losing their pants.

In The Night Garden: Hello Everyone £12.93 @ HMV

I find it amazing how this programme manages to tap straight into a child's mind, they absolutely love it. I am constantly wondering what the creators did to come up with the idea. Incidentally, it's the same people who designed the Tellytubbies. Nuff said, I guess...

Horton Hears A Who DVD £2.99 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 June, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Horton Hears A Who DVD £2.99 @ HMVThis a tiny little price for such a big story!

Horton Hears a Who was penned by the wonderfully zany Dr Suess w a y back in 1954, so it really is a classic that's been brought to life with a bit of animation magic.

Horton is an elephant and one day he hears, "HELP!" being shouted from a tiny speck of dust! Even though he can't see who's asking for help, Horton decides to lend a helping hand anyway.

The thing is, his friends and neighbours give him nothing but grief for his trouble and refuse to believe that there's anyone or anything so small living on the 'speck'.

The speck of dust is actually home to the Whos who live in the city of Whoville on the speck of dust and Horton helps them by standing by his motto and procolaiming, "After all, a person is a person, no matter how small." Good old Horton.

HMV have reduced this family movie right down from £13.99 to just £2.99 and there's no delivery to pay either, so it's a proper little bargain.

As you can well imagine, a beautiful maiden in a poofy wedding dress with no clue on real life doesn’t do very well in that bustling, brusque city.
