Little Helper Zooper Collapsible Retro Highchair £84.99 @ Amazon

I’m soon-to-be in the market for a highchair again, as the days are shooting by and my newborn aims for the three month mark, leaving six months not so far away. Browsing Amazon, this unusual contraption, the Little Helper Zooper Collapsible Retro Highchair caught my eye. As did the 39% price reduction, leaving this £139.99 highchair with a price tag of £84.99.

It’s unique design notwithstanding, the Zooper highchair has all the features you’d expect from a modern day baby table. It includes a removable tray, 5-point safety harness, adjustable footrest and wipe-clean tray, a padded cushion and a retro-inspired print.

In addition to those, it is a fully collapsible so it can fit easily into a car or behind a sofa. It is suitable for babies aged 6 months to 3 years or 35lbs. The foot rest is also adjustable.

I love the weird and unusual design, though I wonder if it’ll be as ‘under foot’ as the square ones!

Mamu 3-In-1 Highchair £19.99 @ Argos Ebay

Mamu 3-In-1 Highchair £19.99 @ Argos EbayArgos Ebay have a Mamu 3-in-1 plastic highchair on offer for £19.99, plus £1.99 postage. The same thing is £34.99 at Amazon right now, so it’s a nice saving.

I have looked around, but can’t seem to find any images of this chair in the other two positions. All pictures online just have the straight highchair image, but I’m sure this description will help you figure it ou.

The lower half of the chair, the tray table, is actually a table that the chair rests on top of. The tray can be removed to sit the chair under the table. It has a simple unclick mechanism, but is very sturdy, apparently, when clicked in place.

The chair does have safety straps which are removable for easier cleaning, and no fabric means there’s nowhere for food to get stuck.

One thing a reviewer mentioned is that this ‘aquamarine’ coloured chair is much greener than the blue image pictured and it suits a child up to 20kg.

How To Buy A Highchair

by Lynley Oram in Features on 27 February, 2012 at 1:00 pm

How To Buy A Highchair"Make sure it fits in the bath." These were the sage words of wisdom imparted to me by my sister, who has two boys older than my son. I had asked her for advice on buying a highchair. The reason, she explained, was that you could then just pop it in the bath and hose it down to clean it. At this point I began to think that maybe babies were a bit messier when it came to eating than I might be thinking.

I took her advice and made sure that the highchair we got was small enough when folded up to fit in the bath. There were a couple of other things I looked for in a high chair. A removable tray - so you can just pull it off and wash it in the sink. Height adjustable was good too, so the chair could be at sofa level and at table level. The back reclined a little bit, but I didn't actually look for this feature. It came in handy though as I found that son sometimes fell asleep in the high chair. If it was just a little nap I could lean him back, put the foot rest up, and let him snooze.

So, what else do you need to know about the wonderful world of highchairs?

Baby Polar Gear On The Go Booster Seat £15.35 @ Mothercare

Baby Polar Gear On The Go Booster Seat £15.35 @ Mothercare

The Baby Polar Gear On The Go Booster Seat is currently reduced from £23.99 to £15.35 at Mothercare.

I’ve mentioned before that highchairs have been my nemesis in the first years of parenting, and even now, I have a highchair at home that we paid a fortune for, used less than five times, and the only way I seem able to dispose of it is by Freecycle.

I finally got a great booster seat from Mamas and Papas, but I’ve always seen these, and think it might be a great purchase too – both for smaller babies and travel. And it doesn’t require you to find a new home for one of your chairs for a few years. Bonus.

The On the Go Booster seat is suitable for babies who can sit up unaided (the listing says 12 months, but that’s ridiculous!) to around 15 kg or four years. It’s apparently easy to wipe clean, has a 3-point safety harness, 3 adjustable straps to secure it to a dining chair, and comes with its own changing mat – which I’m sure would make a useful floor mat if you practice baby led weaning.

The Booster Seat converts to a bag with adjustable shoulder straps and weighs around 900g.

FunPod High Chair £109.99 @ Amazon

FunPod High Chair £109.99 @ Amazon

FunPod High Chairs are on sale for £109.99 at Amazon. That's 31% off, or £50, and delivery is free in the UK.

The FunPod High chair is a five-in-one product which can be used as a high chair and a low chair, with or without the tray. It can also be converted into an original FunPod Kitchen Safety Stand for toddlers – in other words, a place for your toddler to stand while you're working in the kitchen.

Its adjustable height means the child can stand at the counter or at the sink, getting involved in what you're doing, without having to stand on a chair – and risk falling off.

There are quick release screws which allow for speedy transformation as baby grows into toddler, and it has an easy-to-clean surface. The high chair can be used from around six months, and the safety stool till around five years.

The set comes with the tools you need to make the changes.

It's still expensive for a high chair, but if I think of the £80-odd we spent on a regular high chair, which does nothing but allow a toddler to sit in it, it's actually pretty good value for money.

Hauck Alpha Grow With You Wooden Highchair £35.75 @ Amazon

Hauck Alpha Grow With You Wooden Highchair £35.75 @ AmazonOH this is a BARGAIN!

Having had three kids I reckon I know a bit about highchairs - I've had the usual big metal-framed ones with the enormous plastic tray at the front and they were fine, except the occupant couldn't properly sit AT the table with everyone else as they were marooned in a sort of no-mans land; at the table once-removed if you will.

So I decided that for the youngest (4 next month, I can't believe it!) we'd get a wooden high chair like this so he could actually have his bowl/plate and cup etc ON the table and really be right there in the thick of meal times.

I bought another well-known make of highchair that's just like this one *wink* and it cost me the best part of £100.  I didn't mind spending the money because they ARE awesome chairs and it did/does exactly what I wanted it to do, but if I could have got something pretty much identical to it for almost a third of that price I WOULD have!

So these chairs adapt as your child grows because you can move the seat and footrest up and down so it's a perfect fit for them between the ages of 6 months and 10 years old.  Yep, you read that right - this chair could be with you for the next 10 years if your  baby is a new one!

Hauck Alpha Grow With You Wooden Highchair £35.75 @ AmazonBeing able to adjust both of these things to fit your child, rather than your child growing to fit the chair, they are widely accepted as being good for encouraging correct posture when sitting. It also comes with a restraining bar (my £100 one didn't, pah!) and a crotch strap to stop tiny ones sliding out underneath.

Amazon have reduced this from £49.99 to £35.75 AND because you're spending over a tenner, you'll get £2 to put towards an MP3 download; delivery is free too with the infamous SuperSaver deal.

Kids Dining Chair £6.60 @ Vertbaudet

Kids Dining Chair £6.60 @ VertbaudetThis basic but practical kids' dining chair is usually £29 at Vertbaudet, down to £11.60 just now.

Better still, if you use the code 3288 at checkout you'll get a further £5 off a £10 spend (including sale items, and free delivery), reducing the price to a cheap and cheerful £6.60.

The code should work for new and existing customers, but existing customers who've 'forgotton' their account number can just register as new.

This chair looks good for children who are too old to tolerate a high-chair but not quite ready for a proper grown-up seat at the table. Its real attraction is that it's height adjustable so should grow with your child and fit an assortment of tables.

A modern look in 2 styles: natural or lacquered green. A practical design that evolves as your child grows. Easy to adjust at 3 heights. Rounded backrest dim. 40 x 13cm. Height 75cm, width 40cm, depth 40cm. Stable wooden structure and seat in non-toxic, lacquered MDF.

Kids Dining Chair £6.60 @ VertbaudetWith change from a tenner I think this is a real bargain and could offer a handy solution to that age-old not-enough-chairs-when-friends-come-for-tea problem!

Leave us a comment if you buy one - we'd love to know what you think.
