Harry Potter Micro Puzzle £1.74 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 24 October, 2011 at 10:00 am

Harry Potter Micro Puzzle £1.74 @ TescoTesco are selling Harry Potter Micro Puzzles for £1.74; their usual full retail price is £5.97 which is, pretty much, what all the other usual suspects are selling them for at the moment.

I've been looking for something to buy my mum for Christmas for a little while now; she's notoriously difficult to buy for because a) she doesn't want anything, b) she doesn't need anything and c) if she ever does want, or need, anything she'll just buy it herself.

She is one of THE biggest Harry Potter fans I know - properly obsessed - and also loves doing puzzles, so, as a little token something just to mark the occasion, a couple of Harry Potter Micro Puzzles will fit the bill perfectly.

There are six 150-piece jigsaw puzzles each featuring a poster for the films from the Philosopher's Stone through to the Half Blood Prince; if you manage to collect all of them (you can't choose which one you get I'm afraid) then you can join them altogether in their jigsaw style frame.

They're 19cms high by 15cms wide and 5cms deep; suitable for anyone who's a Harry P fan and more than four years old and can be ordered/paid for online and collected in-store for freeee (you have to say that in your best Dobby voice when he was set free with a sock in the Chamber of Secrets!).

Harry Potter Hexagon Hogwarts Staff Jigsaw Brain Teaser Game £2.80 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 12 September, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Harry Potter Hexagon Hogwarts Staff Jigsaw Brain Teaser Game £2.80 @ Amazon

There’s a very generous 60% off the Harry Potter Hexagon Hogwarts Staff Jigsaw Brain Teaser Game which has been reduced to £.80 from £6.99.

A rather unusual game, but I’m sure it will be a hit among the Harry Potter fans of the world. At this price, it’ll also make a fab little stocking filler – especially since the only review says that it’s hard at first, but really easy after, so it’s entertainment value is not going to last terribly long.

The Brain Teaser Game features 10 hexagon puzzle pieces each represent three different characters from the story. Each puzzle piece contains a different section of each character for you to test your puzzle skills.  You need to complete the 10-piece puzzle hexagon with each character fully assembled on every piece when the shape is fully formed.

On the reverse of the puzzle pieces, there’s a simpler game, which is to assemble the logo from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

There’s also an hour glass and score sheet included to turn it from a single person game to a challenge among different players.

Lego Discounts @ Amazon

Lego Discounts @ Amazon

There’s loads of discounts on Lego at Amazon at the moment, with around 30% off on most items. Three deals featured over at HUKD today were:

The Knight Bus has 32% off and is now selling for £20.54, and comes with Stan Shunpike, Ernie Prang and the shrunken head, and Harry Potter and even Hedwig.  The bus rebuilds into a London bus or an ordinary bus (although it does strike me as being the wrong colour!)

The Pig Farm and Tractor Lego has 33% off, and is selling at £17.99. The set includes four little pigs and two farm minifigures. The pig pen is reportedly “excellent” according to a reviewer, and there are loads of accessories, like a (Lego) stone trough,   some mud, straw and bales of hay.  There are even wooden trough with swill in them! There’s of course also the tractor.

The Log Cabin set is a favourite of mine, as it’s a three-in-one which can be rebuilt into a river hut featuring a brook, bridge, outdoor stove and furniture,  and country retreat featuring a garden, street lamp and porch light. It also comes with a minifigure with a backpack, as well as a fire, canoe and other accessories and costs £17.99 – a 31% saving.

Harry Potter: Dobby Interactive Money Box £6.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 10 August, 2011 at 10:00 am

Harry Potter: Dobby Interactive Money Box £6.99 @ Home BargainsThis Harry Potter: Dobby interactive money box retails for £27.99, the lovely folks at Home Bargains will let you have him for £6.99.

I don't know any Harry Potter fan who doesn't have a huge soft spot for Dobby.

Me and Tamsin went to see The Deathly Hallows Part One together and when she said, recently in a post, that she howled when Dobby died...she wasn't kidding!

Anything that encourages kids to save and become responsible with money can, in my opinion, only be a good thing.

Life is far easier when YOU are in control of your money rather than the other way around, so laying the foundations for good saving habits early on is a fabulous 'gift' to give to your child.

With this Dobby interactive money box, the House Elf will become your child's financial friend - whenever they put money into the box, Dobby will come to life and recite some of his, and other character's, best-known lines from the films.

He's suitable for young savers aged six years and over and whilst I can't find any battery information anywhere, I think we can safely assume that he'll need some - either AA or AAA - and that they're not included.

Delivery from Home Bargains costs either 50p for a small parcel or £2.99 for a medium parcel - your guess is as good as mine as to which category Dobby falls into but, either way, it's not going to break the bank.

Happy Saving!

Lego Harry Potter: The Forbidden Forest £7.23 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 7 August, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Lego Harry Potter: The Forbidden Forest £7.23 @ Amazon

Amazon have a Lego scene from the last Harry Potter book on offer now for 31% off. They’re selling the Forbidden Forest for £7.23 instead of £10.49.

Lynley once asked me if there’s anything Harry Potter doesn’t have merchandising in, and I must say I don’t know. But if you think of something, do or don’t let them know, depending on your feelings on ol’ Harry.  I know some people glad to finally see the back of  the series, but the rest of us have a rather bittersweet sadness over it all coming to an end.

This Lego set  is actually a scene from the final movie, evidenced by the presence of Narcissa Malfoy, Hagrid and Voldemort all present in the Forest, so it’s the scene just before Harry … well, I won’t tell you, in case you haven’t read it or seen the movie.

The set comes with four  minifigures, those three and Harry, as well as such accessories as the wands, snake (which is a bit blah if it’s meant to be Nagini, but fine if it’s just a snake), owl, a mushroom and a spider – it is the Forbidden Forest after all, where those spiders live.

You’ll also find the Lego bits to make a tree and Voldemort’s blue fire.  Added to which, characters such as Hagrid, Narcissa and Voldemort are pretty rare.

Free Sorting Hat With £30 Spend @ Toys R Us

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 30 July, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Free Sorting Hat With £30 Spend @ Toys R Us

Okay, if you don’t know what the Sorting Hat is, I’m pretty sure the rest of this deal won’t mean that much to you, but if you do, and you already have your preference for start of term, read on!

Toys R Us is offering Harry Potter fans a free Sorting Hat worth £14.99 with any spend of £30 or more on Harry Potter goodies.  Offer is valid  until 14 August,  and you need to add the hat to your basket, and it will automatically be reset to zero once you add £30 worth of Harry Potter goodies.

In the offer you’ll find such treasures as the Lego Harry Potter Quidditch Match for £22.99 or Freeing Dobby for £10.99 (slightly more than you’d pay at Amazon for either, but you’d have plenty enough for your free Sorting Hat).

If you’re going for the full outfit, you can find a Gryffindor dressing up costume for kids aged 8 – 10 years for £19.99 (this has excellent reviews too) and for £14.99, add the Infra Red  Battling Wand of your choice.

Depending on how keen you are to have the Sorting Hat, it might be worth price comparing with Amazon, which is a little cheaper on most of the above individual items.

So, is it worth it? Well, I’ll leave that up to you to decide. Let me just say this: Halloween is only 8 weeks away…..

Lego Harry Potter ‘Freeing Dobby’ £7.99 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 27 May, 2011 at 10:00 am

Lego Harry Potter ‘Freeing Dobby’ £7.99 @ Amazon

There’s 24% off the Freeing Dobby Harry Potter Lego at Amazon at the moment bringing it from £10.49 to £7.99.

It was a rather sweet moment in the movie when Dobby realised his master had given him a sock – although Malfoy hadn’t really, and I’m pretty sure there’d be a rule in a wizarding book somewhere that would have allowed Malfoy to keep Dobby as his personal slave if he’d really wanted to.  Either way, Dobby is freed and goes on to save Harry and his friends later, so it’s a good thing al that happened, really.

Of course, you can reinact the scene or make up your own entirely, since this set comes with a buildable doorway with a lever mechanism to send Lucius Malfoy flying, a book and a sock, a spider, broom as well as Harry, Lucius Malfoy and Dobby figurines.

According to Amazon, the set is suitable for children aged six and up.  There’s a 4.4 star rating on the set. There aren’t any exciting pieces in this set, from a Lego building point of view, but the figurines are nicely made – or so say the reviewers.

Lego Harry Potter 4842 - Hogwarts Castle £74.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 April, 2011 at 8:00 am

Lego Harry Potter 4842 - Hogwarts Castle £74.99 @ AmazonAmazon are currently selling this Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle for £74.99 instead of £102.99.

If you're a regular PlayPennies reader then you'll know that I'm an AFOL - an Adult Fan of Lego - I'm also a big fan of Harry Potter but, you know, even these two things combined wouldn't persuade me to pay over £100 for a Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle set!

It's a universally accepted truth that Lego is expensive, has always been expensive and will ALWAYS be expensive so even though £74.99 is still a bit steep...it's better than £102.99.

There are over 1,200 pieces of Lego that make up Hogwarts Castle and despite everything I've just said, I'd LOVE to build it.

The recommended minumum age is eight years old but simply because it's not going to be the simplest thing to build - if you have a younger Harry P and Lego fan then you'll just have to help them build it (or invite me round and I'll help!).

Inside Hogwart's Castle  you'll find Dumbledore's office with sliding stairs, the Slytherin and Gryffindor common rooms, the Restricted Section of the library and the Great Hall decorated in Slytherin and Gryffindor colours; you'll also get 10 minifigures, including Harry, Snape, Voldemort and two Dementors.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express £39.99 @ Argos

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 16 February, 2011 at 7:00 pm

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express £39.99 @ Argos

My HP barometer just hit the roof. I'm not sure if this was every really £79.99 or if anyone would be able to pay that, but I still think the £39.99 they're asking for the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express now is pretty good for what you get. It's also over £60 at Amazon right now.

This Harry Potter Hogwarts Express LEGO set is from “The Chamber of Secrets”, where Ron and Harry borrow Ron's dad's flying car.

There are loads of parts for this set, including:

  • A very miserable looking Draco Malfoy figurine
  • An angry Harry Potter figurine
  • A rather disturbed looking Ron (no wonder, after crashing daddy's car!)
  • Ginny and Luna also feature as figurines, but sadly, Hermione doesn't
  • An invisibility cloak which though fun won't make your figurines invisible
  • The Weasley's flying car
  • The food trolley
  • Luggage
  • And the lovely Hogwart's Express

This one's out of stock for home delivery, and you might have to look around for it as it's out of stock in a lot of places already, but I did manage to find it not too far from me, and s'far as I am concerned, it's totally worth the drive.

Lego Harry Potter The Burrow £46.71 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 10 January, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Lego Harry Potter The Burrow £46.71 @ Amazon

For Harry Potter Fans, The Burrow Lego set from Amazon looks like a great set to own. The Burrows is currently £46.71, which is 25% off the original £61.99, and a pretty good price against the £64.99 at Play.com, or the £59.97 at Tesco Direct.

As any true Harry Potter fan will know, the Death Eaters never really attacked the burrows in book six, so the entire attack scene in the Half Blood Prince movie never actually happened. Nevertheless, it did happen in the movie in an attempt to show that no one was really safe anywhere, apparently.

So, in the movie, anyway, Harry and the Weasley's are all joined together in the Burrows for Christmas, when suddenly some of the Death Eaters attack, engulfing the house and surrounds in flames. Of course, all our leading characters are safe, and by the following movie, the house is in its original condition again.

This Lego set includes Mr and Mrs Wesley, Harry, Ginny and the Death Eaters Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback. It also contains an owl and a pig.

The Lego Burrow is also a three storey asymmetrical house – although not as crooked as the 'real' one – and it features a fireplace that you can place minifigures into and pull the lever to transport them using Floo Powder.

It also features a pig pen and each floor has a separate room, two bedrooms and a kitchen.

Harry Potter Cluedo £15.99 @ Argos

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 26 November, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Harry Potter Cluedo £15.99 @ Argos

For lovers of Harry Potter and lovers of Cluedo, the two meet in this game set for £15.99 at Argos, usually RRP £19.99, or £28.00 at Amazon.

The basis of this game is the same as the traditional Cluedo. You still move around trying to figure out who did it, with what weapon and where, but now we're not in some stuffy old manor – we're in Hogwarts!

When a student disappears from the school, players use the characters Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna or Neville to find how, when and what spell was used to attack the student. This variant, while loosely based on the reinvention makeover, is a major departure from traditional game play and constitutes a spin-off in its own right, as it includes along with the standard compliment of equipment, Help cards, Dark cards, Mystery cards, house point tokens (the loss of which can eliminate a player from a game), and a variable configuration game board which changes during the course of play.

When the dark mark appears various events happen that would cause the unprepared players to lose valuable house points, lose them all and you are out of the game.

It sounds like a lot of fun for anyone who would love to be a part of the Harry Potter cast!

The game is suitable for three to five players ages nine and over.

Harry Potter On Blu Ray £17.99 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 November, 2010 at 8:00 am

Harry Potter On Blu Ray £17.99 @ HMVThis is a magical deal (almost as magical as my puns)! HMV are giving away years one to six of Harry Potter on Blu Ray for the astonishing price of £17.99!

I still can't quite get my head around being able to pick up all six of the Harry Potter films on Blu ray for £3 each!

I've checked it, and ordered it, and I promise it's not a mistake - I'm going to say it again, just so it sinks in: years one to six of Harry Potter on Blu Ray for £17.99.

I adore the Harry Potter films - I caught the Chamber of Secrets on TV the other day and it sparked off a bit of a Harry Potter fest'. I dragged out all my non-Blu ray copies and every Sunday afternoon since, I've watched one of them.

The Philosopher's Stone still has to be one of my favourites, it's not as dark, moody or angsty as the later ones.

The Teenagers birthdays are on Wednesday and, over the last decade, going to see the latest Harry Potter film at the cinema has become a bit of a ritual; we're off to see the Deathly Hallows part one on Saturday next week and we can't wait.

If you've never seen any of the Harry Potter films then grabbing years one to six of Harry Potter on Blu ray (did I mention the price was just £17.99) is your chance to see what all the fuss has been about for the last 10 years.

Harry Potter Cluedo £9.99 @ Play.com

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 June, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Harry Potter Cluedo £9.99 @ Play.comWell this could be my mum's birthday or Crimbo pressie sorted out...

...not only is she an avid fan of the classic whodunnit game but she's a HUGE Harry Potter fan too - we had a Harry Potter themed Christmas once, she made us all these amazing wizard hats and everything!

I liked Cluedo as a kid but how much fun is it going to be playing the Harry Potter version! I think it was Professor Snape in the restricted section with the Avada Kedavra spell!" utter genius!  Actually it's not quite that - the object of this game is to figure out which Hogwarts student cast which forbidden spell in which part of the school; it's close enough.

The board comes with all the usual bits and pieces you'd expect but with an HP twist there are:

  • 2 special dice
  • 6 wizard hat pawns
  • 1 ghost pawn
  • 10 Hogwarts event cards
  • 6 character cards
  • 6 magic cards
  • 9 room cards
  • 2 summary cards
  • Check list pad

and a 'Fluffy' holder for storing the cards that reveal the who, the what and the where (he was the three-headed dog in the Philosopher's Stone remember?).

Play have reduced this from £19.99 to £9.99 and it's a GREAT price,  it's selling for a fair bit more everywhere else, and delivery as usual them is FREEEEEE.

Harry Potter Boxset 1- 6 £27.95 @ Zavvi

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 7 March, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Harry Potter Boxset 1- 6 £27.95 @ ZavviJust the opening few bars of the Harry Potter music is enough to make me want to watch these movies for the hundred-millionth time.

I remember a time when there was no Harry Potter, no wizards' chess, no chocolate frogs, no Hagrid and no Quidditch - hard to believe isn't it.

I also remember wondering what all the fuss was about until I read the first book to my two eldest (who were considerably smaller then) and then it all made perfect sense - we were hooked.

Going to the cinema to see that first movie was just fabulous; Voldermort and the Forbidden Forest scenes scared the living daylights out of my daughter - she was only 5 at the time (she's 14 now) so don't go plonking really young ones in front of these movies on their own!

Harry Potter Boxset 1- 6 £27.95 @ ZavviFor those who have yet to be acquainted with Harry Potter - essentially the stories are about wizards, witches and good triumphing over bad with more than just a little suspense, action and humour in between.

The rrp on this set is £48.93 but Zavvi have cast the REDUCTO! spell andreduced it to £27.95 - there's no delivery to pay either (I don't know what the spell is for that...free delieverio...?).

Don't be fooled into thinking these are just magic stories for kids...watch them for yourself if you've never seen them and find out what all the fuss is STILL about!
