Spring Blossom Charmed By Accurist Ladies Watch £27.50 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 10:00 am

Spring Blossom Charmed By Accurist Ladies Watch £27.50 @ AmazonI was going to write about the Charmed by Accurist ladies watches as a 5pm review because I have one and absolutely adore it - however, a couple of deals have popped up that are quite simply too good to run the risk of missing out on if Amazon start putting the price up.

The usual (and genuine) retail price for the Spring Blossom and Cherry Blossom Charmed by Accurist ladies watches are £110, Amazon are currently selling them for £27.50!

If you're a fan of Pandora bracelets then you may just fall in love with this Spring Blossom Charmed by Accurist ladies watch - think Pandora, or Camillia and others, combined with a very unobtrusive watch face.

I love elegant bracelet watches and I also love Pandora bracelets, but I didn't want to wear something on each wrist so when I stumbled across the Charmed by Accurist watches (on a British Airways flight of all places) I knew it was the perfect compromise.

The Spring Blossom Charmed by Accurist watch comes with four round glass bead charms - two very pretty pale pink and two slightly darker - and four silver coloured metal heart-shaped beads with inset crystals.  The watch face is mother of pearl and has a crystal set at 12 o'clock.

The ends of the bracelet unscrew so you can add more beads and charms if you want to (it's compatible with all the main charm and bead brands) and has a lobster claw fastening.

There are a couple of things you should know about all the Charmed by Accurist watches

  1. They're not waterproof and
  2. They are REALLY tricky to do up on your own - however, with a bit of practice and finding the best way for you this does get easier.

If you're looking for a watch that's different and pretty, or a present for a special lady in your life, then really do go and take a look at the Charmed by Accurist watches - there are lots of different styles and most have discounts on them at the moment too, although not as low as the two Blossom watches.

Happy being charmed!

Hampton Blue - Hand Made Vintage Fabric Journal & Nicky James Make Up Bag Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 25 April, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Hampton Blue - Hand Made Vintage Fabric Journal & Nicky James Make Up Bag ReviewMy heart soars with happiness whenever I get assigned anything from Hampton Blue to review, let me explain why!

First of all you need to picture what Hampton Blue is like, close your eyes and take a little imaginary journey with me...

You're on holiday in a quaint little English village somewhere on the coast; you stroll through the adorable high street and stumble across a little shop selling things you'd use but aren't like all the usual run-of-the-mill versions you normally find.

THAT, is Hampton Blue and I feel it's only fair to issue a stern PlayPennies public service announcement:

Paddington Bear Breakfast Set £7.57 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 April, 2012 at 9:00 am

Paddington Bear Breakfast Set £7.57 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this Paddington Bear breakfast set for £7.57 instead of its usual £12.50 price tag; personally, I'd be happy to pay full price for it but all the while Amazon want to sell it for less I'm even happier!

I adore Paddington Bear! I'm often at Paddington Station as I catch the Heathrow Express from there when I fly, and can't help but smile at all the tourists happily clutching their Paddington Bear toys and having their photos taken under the Paddington station signs.

I'm also a bit of a fan of breakfast sets like this Paddington Bear breakfast set - it's made by Royal Worcester and would make a lovely Easter alternative to chocolate or a Christening, or other special occasion, gift.

The set includes a double-handled mug,  bowl and a spoon; the porcelain is dishwasher and microwave safe and everything comes presented in a lovely gift box.

All the usual Amazon delivery options apply; I'll keep my fingers crossed they leave the price alone long enough for you to grab a Paddington Bear breakfast set if you want one.

Clothes, Toys and Gifts 10% Off @ Butterflies and Dinosaurs

Butterflies and Dinosaurs is the kind of shop I could simply get lost in. They have a gorgeous range of wooden toys, baby skin care, bibs and clothing, gift sets and organic teas and mum-to-be products available, as well as beautiful unique personalised artwork.

Funky things for little people, with 10% off

  • Discount:10%
  • Expires: 5 November 2011
  • Discount Code: READING

There’s a stunning range of wooden toys at Butterflies and Dinosaurs, a lot of which I haven’t actually seen before, so they’re not from the ‘major’ wooden toy brands. I love the ten brightly coloured Soldier Skittles that come with two little balls to knock them down with. Each skittle is around 19.5 cm in height, so they’re a pretty decent size, and cost £19.99.

What really caught my eye though was the superbly cute Noah’s Ark set, with seven pairs of animals (mostly African, it seems,) and Mr and Mrs Noah – this is a  little more at £34.99, but I’m having a hard time not just clicking ‘Add to Cart’. It’s so cute.

If there’s a baby shower or new baby in your future, there are some gorgeous gift sets to choose from, and the personalised art work is really precious too.

Take 10% off the prices listed above, and throw in free delivery and hopefully you’ll love their products as much as I do!

Christmas Teddy Bear £7 @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 November, 2011 at 9:00 am

Christmas Teddy Bear £7 @ MothercareFor the second year in a row I've been charged with buying, and safely flying home to South Africa, a Harrods Christmas Bear for a member of my family; he's very cute but I wonder if I could get away with this £7, instead of £20, Christmas Teddy Bear from Mothercare instead!

Whilst I wasn't a dolly type of girl when I was little, I absolutely ADORED teddy bears and I had lots of them.  Sometimes you don't need a toy that does anything other than just be soft and perfect for cuddling, this Christmas Teddy Bear from Mothercare looks like he's more than up to the job to me (I'm rather tempted to buy him for myself!).

If you're in denial about Christmas then it's time to man-up now, there are a mere 53 days left until the big day itself and at £7, rather than £20 (just in case you didn't get that the first time) I wouldn't be surprised of this Christmas Teddy Bear goes out of stock fairly quickly.

The best thing about him is he's suitable from birth and machine washable too; a perfect companion for your baby and their first teddy bear (of many, you can't escape that I'm afraid).

He's available for in-store collection too, which is the option I'd take otherwise you'll pay £4.95.

3 For 2 AND Free Delivery @ Superdrug

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 September, 2011 at 12:00 pm

3 For 2 AND Free Delivery @ SuperdrugSuperdrug have a super deal that will save you a few pounds - mix and match 3 for 2 on all sorts of almost everything with FREE delivery thrown in for a bit of early Christmas cheer; HURRAH!

I'm rather fond of Superdrug; it's one of the last remaining bastions of the high street from my childhood.

It was the place to go as a young teenager to buy cheap make up - electric blue mascara, very pale pink glittery eye shadow to be worn as lipstick and coconut sun-gel that had no SPF factor, I'm not even sure SPF had been invented then *grin*

It's still the same today - teenage girls searching for make up bargains and us former teenage girls, still searching for bargains but now we can afford L'Oreal...as long as it's 3 for 2.

Superdrug online has more to offer than that though, there are gift selections for him and her, toys for the kids, hairdryers, straighteners, shavers, epilators and other forms of electrical torture.

They even sell chocolates and sweets; awesome.

Everything that's part of the 3 for 2 mix and match offer is identified with a little Christmas present icon, just add the bits and pieces you want to your basket and the cheapest one out of each three things is yours for free.

Happy early Christmas shopping on this abnormally-warm-dare-I-say-hot very late September day!

Guess How Much I Love You Gift Edition £3.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 7 September, 2011 at 11:00 am

Guess How Much I Love You Gift Edition £3.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are currently selling this lovely Guess How Much I Love You gift edition for £3.99 instead of £12.99.

"I love you right up to the moon - and back!"

That's just one of the lines in Guess How Much I Love You that, unless you have a heart of stone, is guaranteed to melt it.

Even though Guess How Much I Love You is a children's story - Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare discover that love isn’t something you can easily measure -  it makes a lovely gift to give the grown-up loves in your life.

The Guess How Much I Love You story and it's delicate watercolour illustrations are SO beautiful they almost make my heart ache.

I know what it feels like to try and tell someone just HOW much you love them when there just aren’t enough words, or ways, to quantify it.  However, what I can easily measure is just how much I LOVE this book - a LOT, is the answer!

If this is all your buy from The Book People today then a single item delivery charge of £1.95 will apply.

Even paying that little bit extra on top, I still love this deal.

Happy guessing how much someone loves you.

Clintons Father's Day Gifts Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 10 June, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Clintons Father's Day Gifts Review

While Father’s day doesn’t seem to bring out the Hallmark moments, pastel posters and commercial overkill that mother’s day does, there are still plenty of ideas around for how to treat dad.

Of course, one of the first places that comes to mind when I’m looking for little bits and pieces for gifts and cards is Clintons so we asked PlayPennies mum Tammy to review a selection of their Father’s Day stock for us.

Tammy was sent a bell which says “Ring for Beer”, an “I’m a Retro Dad” T-shirt, and a Mr.Grumpy mug.

Clintons Father's Day Gifts ReviewTo get us started, Tammy shares her thoughts on the “Ring For Beer” bell.  “This is a small dark blue bell with white writing. It comes packaged in clear plastic and is rather good to look at.”  That’s a good start, as we generally like our gifts to be good to look at!

However, the joke was a little lost on Tammy’s partner. “My husband is not the kind of man who appreciates this kind of humour so he glared at the bell a bit and muttered about male stereotypes. I have to say that I kind of agree but the point isn't really about philosophy is it? It is about the fact that someone could buy this for their other half as a cute little extra joke pressie. And for that it is very cute.

My mum had a bell she used to ring when we were kids. No matter where we were, we knew it was time to get home for dinner/bath/bed or whatever was next in the day. As did the rest of the neighbourhood, but this was life before mobile phones. At least it saves dad running around trying to find his kids.

I don't know the price yet” – its’ £3.99 -  “so i can't comment on that but it is well made, rather solid and has a pleasant ring to it. Once it was out the packaging our child adopted it until we both hid it to preserve our sanity. I then used it one morning to ring for coffee in bed, sadly this did not go down well.”

And, as a final thought, Tammy says, “Ok on further investigation you can get Ring for a Cuppa which I think I'd like for Christmas please :)”

Clintons Father's Day Gifts ReviewNext up is the “I’m not Old, I’m Retro” T-shirt, which you’ll have to pick up in store.

Like most Father's Day t-shirts,” says Tammy “this one is sweet and pretty targeted”.

She’s pretty impressed with the quality too. “The fabric is good quality and not too thin and crap”.

But it’s not really her sense of humour. “I didn't get the joke about Retro Dad if I am honest. Well, I got the joke but it wasn't funny. Not my sense of humour at all. The husband refuses to wear it as it says he is old (that's what he says) but I reckon that grandpa's will dig it and so sent it on to my Dad from his granddaughter. He thought it was hilarious and wears it on Sundays to ‘slooomph’ around in”.

Tammy doesn’t get told the prices of items she receives, so she’s guessing here. “If this is under £10, it’s good value for money with quality stitching, thick material and a nice transfer that hasn't washed off and gotten all peely after 5 washes so far.”
It’s just £5, so doubly good value, by my calculations!

Clintons Father's Day Gifts ReviewThe final item Tammy received from Clintons was the Mr. Grumpy mug, which was a massive hit.

A few years ago,” she tells us, “I bought my husband a Mr Grumpy T-shirt which he loves and my daughter loves (especially now she is into Mr Men more) and when I whipped out the Mr Grumpy mug both their faces lit up in big fat smiles.”

Tammy was really happy with the mug, and thinks the mug and T-shirt should come out as a set.

The mug is cheap, dishwashes nicely and is big. I hate tiny little mugs that give you one sip of bloody coffee.” Said, of course, in her best “I’m a tired mummy” voice!

Tammy’s final thoughts on the mug? “This is a MUG and does everything very nicely. I think this is a definite winner for our house, especially with the low price.” Which is £4.99. “Oh, and I see they also have Mr Happy mug, so I ask this - how did they KNOW my husband was Mr Grumpy? (HAHAHAHA)”

There are loads of other options for Father’s Day, so check out the website, and if you pass one, pop in store too, and have a happy Father’s Day!

Me to You Keepsake Treasure Chest with Body Treats £4.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 June, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Me to You Keepsake Treasure Chest with Body Treats £4.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Me to You Keepsake Treasure Chest with Body Treats for half price, £4.99 instead of £9.99.

I would have loved this when I was a little girl;  I'm a little bit more 'designer' these days before anyone decides to send in a Me to You Keepsake Treasure Chest with Body Treats pressie for me!

When I was little we used to have big family parties at my nan's house on Boxing Day, this was almost like a second Christmas Day as my nan would buy all the grandchildren more pressies to open from underneath HER tree.

This Me to You Keepsake Treasure Chest with Body Treats is exactly the sort of thing she would have bought for me and my other girl cousins, the boys would have been given typically boy things like cars, cap guns and joke sweets - I remember being given a particularly foul soap flavoured one once.

This is suitable for little treasures aged three years or older and the keepsake chest contains: 50ml foam bath, 50ml shower gel, 50ml body lotion and some body polisher.

As it's consumable, the Me to You Keepsake Treasure Chest with Body Treats is excluded from the 30-day money back Argos guarantee.

It's available for home delivery for £5.95 or you can reserve it online, pop into town and pick it up in-store for free.

Hampton Blue Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 6 April, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Hampton Blue ReviewI'm trying to think how best to describe Hampton Blue to you...

You know when you come across a little shop which sells things that are a little bit different to all the usual run-of-the-mill things, whether it be clothes, toys, gifts or little trinkets that are just for the sheer hell of it?  Well that, to me at least, is Hampton Blue.

Hampton Blue is a family run business set up by two sisters who were, and I quote, "... inspired to set up our own online boutique offering a treasure trove of desirable accessories and gifts at affordable prices."

The banner headline on their website reads 'Temptation at your fingertips' - it won't take a long browse around to realise that this is very true...you've been warned.

We were sent two toys from Hampton Blue to review - a Pirate Tap A Shape Box (£4.95) and a Lanka Kade Wooden Snail Jigsaw (£5.95) - which we sent off to PlayPennies mum, Laura, to try for us.

Pirate Tap A Shape Box

Hampton Blue Review

Laura and her six-year-old son were a little bemused with the Pirate Tap A Shape Box.  Firstly, there's not a box in sight as everything comes packaged in a round metal tin.

Secondly, Laura tells us that name on the tin caused some confusion too, "The name on the tin is Tap A Shape Pirate in a Tin Game. Except, there are no instructions in there for how you are meant to play with this as a game."

She goes on to say, "What you do get are lots of little pieces, beautifully crafted out of wood, that can be moved about to create all sorts of different types of pictures. At six, my son was soon quickly bored with it though, and he didn't really get it either."

Laura explains the age advice on the tin is from aged three years onwards which, whilst she understands due to the small pieces presenting a potential choking hazard, she feels is a bit of a shame as, in her opinion, it's more suited to younger children.

However, all was not lost with the Pirate Tap A Shape Box!

"The tin was a huge hit though, with it's see through lid and cute pirate graphics. I've since noticed that the contents have been emptied and substituted for some of his 'treasures', such as a foreign coin, a plastic spider, and a domino."

It sounds a bit like the well known 'cardboard box' syndrome to me - where the packaging is FAR more fun than its contents.

Lanka Kade Snail Jigsaw

Hampton Blue Review

The Lanka Kade Snail jigsaw is described as a educational wooden counting jigsaw in the shape of a snail and Laura loved it.

"This is a delightful toy," she says, "there are five parts to the snail, each numbered. It works as a puzzle, and as a counting toy. It's made of wood, in primary colours. The label on the back says it is hand made in Sri Lanka, and that it is made of rubber wood."

Laura also explained to us that Lanka Kade is an approved Fairtrade supplier and that the Snail jigsaw was suitable for littlies aged 18 months or over, "As I don't have a baby in that age range, I gave it to my best friend's son to play with (he's 20 months) and he loved it too."

Laura said it was fun showing him how it went together along  with helping him 'count' through the pieces, " He played with the body part of the snail as a toy too, and his mother tells me that he takes it about with him when they go out too.  She finds it is a great toy to keep him occupied if they're on the train."

You can't get a much better endorsement than that - a toddler who wants to take a toy with them whenever they go out.

Laura also told us that her friend's son was particularly interested in the individual shapes that make up the snail, "The pieces of the snail aren't just rounded parts of the shell spiral that fit together. The parts of the shell sort of interlock. This keeps the snail together more than it would if it all just sat together, and that's probably the intention."

The unusual interlocking shapes of the pieces proved utterly fascinating in their own right making the Lanka Kade Snail jigsaw a huge hit.

And finally...

If you're looking for original little toys or gifts that won't break the bank then it will be well worth paying a visit to Hampton Blue.

Both Laura and her friend felt that both items were perfectly priced and even though the Pirate Tap A Shape box seemed a bit 'random', the tin is still providing plenty of joy and storage for those special little things.

Build-A-Bear Limited Edition Love-Bug Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 3 March, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Build-A-Bear Limited Edition Love-Bug Review

I’ve long been a fan of Build-A Bear-Workshop. In fact, I am the one who throws a tantrum when we can’t go inside. And yet I have never managed to build a good bear. Mine are either too stiff or turned out to be cats, not bears. Really.

So when I was sent the utterly adorable Love Bug Bear I melted. She costs £9, down from £13.50, has truly cute wings, and even had the dads going, “Aaah.”  In fact, I had to wrestle her away from one of the dads who was sort of bouncing it on his knee. A great big strapping man playing with the Love Bug.

The Love Bug is very well constructed and is soft, soft, soft. I am not entirely sure about the wings, though. The wings may start out looking perfect but after minutes they already have seam lines in them. The tiniest bend can cause a line to form.

This didn’t bother me much, if I am honest. I think a bear is supposed to be worn and rough and look as if it has been loved. Certainly the fur on this one is soft enough to encourage plenty of cuddling.

The Love Bug Bear from Build-A-Bear Workshop has replaced poor Jessie as the Toy To Sleep With at the moment. I even had to wrestle it away from my daughter as she tried to smuggle it to school in her backpack.

The Love Bug Bear is limited edition so he won’t be online for very much longer. If you happened to forget Valentine’s Day (gasp!) or have a birthday coming up, then this is a completely delightful gift.

Postage will cost you another £3.25 for standard shipping though, so perhaps you should nab your Love Bug from the nearest Build-A-Bear store.

The Chocolate Moon Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 9 February, 2011 at 1:00 pm

The Chocolate Moon Review'The Chocolate Moon' - the first thing that sprang to our minds was a huge chooclate moon hanging heavy in the sky, sooo tempting and yummy looking but out of reach.

Luckily we're talking about  a lovely mail-order chocolate company whose chocolates treats are most definitely within reach.

Now usually we have things sent to us and we then send them on to one of our parent testers; this time, however, we wanted to know how the whole process worked for our tester from browsing the website, to ordering through to delivery and, of course, then the eating.

We picked on PlayPennies mum Sadie and gave her the 'terrible' task of reviewing some chocolates from The Chocolate Moon

"It was a tough decision to make. "Hi it's PlayPennies here, we were wondering if you'd like to order and review some chocolates for us?" Oh hang on....erm....let me think about that for a moment...review some chocolates? YES PLEASE!"

The Chocolate Moon ReviewThe only thing we had to send Sadie was the www.thechocolatemoon.co.uk web address and the rest was down to her.

"From the moment the page opened I knew I was in for something  a little more special than a slab of Fruit and Nut," Sadie revealed, "the design, the colours, the images! I was ready to dive in and indulge my inner-chocolatier."

Sadie went on to tell us that she thought the ordering process was going to take a few minutes, when in actual fact it took her two DAYS!

"The length of time it took me to order from The Chocolate Moon was purely down to the fact that I couldn't make up my mind which chocolates to choose!" she confessed, "There are so many amazing flavours and variations that just choosing one thing was TOUGH!"

In the end Sadie took the plunge, stepped away from the safe and traditional and decided to try something she'd never tasted before; Chilli Truffles.

"They'd called to me right from the start. They're different, they sound daring and I thought 'what the heck!' I'm going to give them a bash!" Sadie explained.

The ordering process was quick, simple and plain-sailing. Just choose your chocolates, add them to the basket, fill in your details and pay; that's it.

"I got an email confirming my order had been recieved," Sadie told us, "and another one that same day, telling me my order had been dispatched. The Chilli Chocolate Truffles arrived the very next day, the service really was very quick."

The Chocolate Moon Review"The chilli chooclate truffles were packaged in a clear cellophane bag, tied with gift ribbon and had a Chocolate Moon gift tag attached to it; the bag of truffles came inside a tube-shaped box (can you have a tube-shaped box?! I can't think of a better way to describe it, sorry)."

We really liked the look of the packaging when we had a quick peek at The Chocolate Moon website too, it makes a really nice change from the standard square box chocolates usually come in.

"Then it was time; time to discover whether I'd ordered chocolates that I'd love or chocolates that I'd take on bite of, spit out and then regret not ordering the Champagne Truffles instead."

When Sadie told us she'd ordered Chilli Chocolate Truffles we waited with bated breath for her verdict.

I'd heard all about chilli chocolates before and asked a few friends and acquaintances what they thought about chilli chocolate - was it right....or wrong?  The split between the two answers was about 50/50; which camp would Sadie fall into?

"OH. MY GOODNESS! If you've never tried chilli chocolate then you HAVE to try these Chilli Chocolate Truffles! They are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!" was Sadie's verdict.

We think she liked them!

The Chocolate Moon Review"The chocolate is dark, there are little red, yellow and orange chilli flakes on top of each truffle and the smell that rushes out of the bag when you open it is just fabulous.

They're firm to bite, but not too firm. To start with they don't taste much like chilli at all but after a few seconds the heat kicks in and THEN you know you're eating chilli chocolates!"

Sadie asked us to make sure we told you that the chilli heat wasn't unpleasantly hot, just enough to let you know it was there and make you think 'wow!'

The Chilli Truffles cost £7.25 for 150g which worked out to be 11 in number; in fact, most of the prices for all the chocolates available from The Chocolate Moon are £7.25, there are a couple of things for £7.95 and £5.95.

Delivery is very fast even though it's standard first class and will cost you £2.95 for orders under 600g or £3.95 for orders over.  You can also choose WHEN you'd like your order delivered by taking advantage of their scheduled delivery service...

You can now schedule the delivery of your chocolate gifts on a date to fit the occasion. When you order gifts from The Chocolate Moon, you can either have them delivered as soon as possible, or select a date within the next 3 months on which to deliver.

This way, you can take the strain out of remembering that special day - just leave the timing to us - we'll dispatch the gifts 2 days before your chosen date to ensure they arrive just in time.

And finally...

The Chocolate Moon ReviewSadie was over the moon with her entire The Chocolate Moon experience.

"The Chocolate Moon were an absolute delight to deal with and the chocolates were fabulous; I'll definitely be going back to them again and again and again," Sadie concludes.

"I know these aren't the cheapest chocolates in the world but you get what you pay for;  based on their service and the quality of the chocolates you're getting an absolute bargain."

So there you have it -  if you want hassle and stress-free service along with chocolates to die for, bookmark The Chocolate Moon and pay them a visit for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, 'Just Because' days and anytime you want to spoil yourself days.

I think I can feel a 'spoil myself' day coming on...

Think Pink Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 3 December, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Think Pink ReviewI confess! Whenever I read, hear or write 'think pink' I can't help  but think Vanish washing products.

If you thought the same, Think Pink again!

Think endless pretty pink girly things for almost eventuality, scenario and occasion you can possibly think of.

I'm not a 'pink' fan but having had a look around their website I'm feeling thoroughly girly, pretty and have a longing for pink.

(There is a blue version of the site too, just in case those of you with boys were feeling a bit left out!)

We sent PlayPennies mum, Tamara, three things from Think Pink to review:

Three piece Angel - Tutu set (£12.99)

Think Pink ReviewThis is an adorable little fairy/angel set that comes with wings, a skirty tutu thing and a wand.

"My daughter loves, loves, loves, and did I mention, LOVES the three-piece angel/fairy outfit!  It has been doing a bit of a South Coast Tour having made appearances at Tescos, Brighton and gymnastics," Tamara tells us.

By all accounts, the skirt is  really REALLY pretty and can even be used to bulk up a normal dress for a party or when something a little extra special is called for.

"Seriously," reinforces Tamara, "we used it to poof up one of her party dresses and it looked LOVELY, just a peep of frill and lace out the bottom and lots of lovely volume."

Tamaras also tells us that this angel/fairy outfit is whipped out most days and  is a HUGE hit with her daughter who can go off things pretty fast if they just aren't up to scratch.

One of the big fears with angel/fairy outfits can be the wings; delicate wings and over-enthusiastic/less-than-careful youngsters do not make good allies!

"The wings are sturdy buggers AND just the right size too; wings can be tricksy things," says Tamara. " Too big and they can flop and droop which = kiddy temper tantrums and shouting.

Too tacky and badly made they can flop and droop and tear = kiddy temper tantrums.

These are small and sturdy but not too small so that they don’t show over her shoulders."

The wings have stood up to the riggers of being loved by a child too.

Tamara tells us they've been squashed in the car seat, stood on, squelched into a corner and even cuddled up to in bed and they are still going strong.  She's very impressed!

Cupcake Money Box (£8.99)

Think Pink ReviewDid you know that a cupcake money box can do more than just hold money?

Neither did I until Tamara told us about the new game her daughter had invented!

"The cupcake money box has been used in a new game that takes place on weekends: Husband lies down on floor and pretends to be asleep. Daughter fetches him 'coffee', which happens to be this cupcake money box.

Husband goes “glug glug glug” and pours the coffee down his throat. He then leaps up dramatically going “WAHEY!” just when she least expects it and tickles her madly. Is very entertaining!" explains Tamara.

She also revealed that it does involve the cupcake money box getting bashed around a bit.

"This is one TOUGH money box! It hasn’t so much as show a chip and it's BIG too!"

Another thumbs up, methinks.

Spotty Tea Set (£15.99)

Think Pink Review"I fell in love with this the moment I saw it," confesses Tamara, "I thought it was just a little handbag! Then when we opened it and saw these adorably spotty ceramic plates and pots and cups we both got very excited."

Carpet breakfast, lunch and dinner picnics with the Toy Story gang and friends and family have been enjoyed.

Tamara tells us that it is the most gorgeous tea set in the WORLD!  Everything slots in nicely, the plates and spoons have little bands that hold them in place.

However, the spoons are easily breakable and tough to squeeze back into their elastic holders, Tamara says she has to do that bit.

She also tells us, "The handle has already broken off the case. I wasn’t around when this happened so I have no idea how it occured. It could be something pretty brutal that caused its death!

The case lock and case are still going strong though, it's just sans handle now; more of a clutch case tea set than attache case."

And finally...

Tamara's concluding thoughts on the Think Pink bits we sent her?

"The three-piece angel - tutu kit is ace! It would make a great little stocking filler or present for that niece you HAVE to buy for but don’t know very well. £12 seems good value for money for such a sturdy little kit.

The cupcake money box is brilliant!  An absolutely fab' stocking filler; sturdy and does an excellent impersonation of a cup of coffee.

Despite our little incident with the handle of the Spotty Tea Set this really would make an awesome Christmas pressie. Any girl who unwraps one of these on Christmas day will want to have their Christmas lunch served on it...I would!"

Think Pink - have a PlayPennies Gold Star!

If you're a regular PlayPennies reader you'll know that I've got a bit of a thing for canvas prints.  You'll also know that I'm a photographer in part of my offline life; you'd think I'd extoll the virtues of pictures painting a thousand words, which they do, but sometimes words can mean SO much more!

So, why not put together some special words for a loved one and have them printed onto canvas for them to hang on their wall?

I absolutely ADORE this idea and is something I'm doing this year.

You'll have to use your imagination and a bit of photographic trickery but it'll be WORTH it.

If inspiration hasn't struck yet, here are some ideas for you:

  • special dates, places and events that mean a lot to you and the person you're giving the canvas too.
  • Write a poem for them
  • Write a letter to your mother, father, son, daughter, whoever!
  • Write a list of promises to your child - 'I promise to love and protect you' - or your hopes and wishes for their future lives.
  • Lyrics from the song that was the first dance at your wedding (great for anniversary gifts too!)

It really can be anything you want!

Layout the words, in your software of choice, on your computer, or hand write them onto a big piece of paper and take a photograph - as long as you can upload your words as a jpeg image you'll be good to go!

Prices start at £22.99 for 30.5cms x 20.3cms and go up to £67.99 for 76.2cm x 50.8cm - don't forget to add the code and design two different ones to take advantage of the 2 for 1 Photobox canvas print deal!

I've gone W A Y over my word limit on this one, but I don't 'care' - if you read this and it means you end up giving a present that's treasured for a lifetime, then it'll have been worth it!

Sometimes words DO mean more than pictures.
