Get Knotted £35.36 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 December, 2012 at 9:00 am

Get Knotted £35.36 @ AmazonAmazon are selling Get Knotted for £35.36, rather than £41.99 - if you've not heard of Get Knotted before, think Twister but for up to 30 players instead of just a few!

Get Knotted is the sort of game university days are made of; the sort of game that is GREAT when there's a huge gang of you who hang out; the sort of game that's perfect for kids' parties and the sort of game that all Cub, Brownie, Scouts and Girl Guide leaders should have tucked away in their camping activities arsenal.

I wrote about classic Twister late last week - it's such a great game and can you imagine what it would be like playing something similar with up to 30 others?!  I think it would be seriously awesome and absolutely hilarious.

The mat is three meters square and there are two large inflatable dice which will determine which body part must be placed where on the mat.

Here's what a couple of existing owners have to say about Get Knotted:

I bought this product for my daughter's 14th birthday party as something for the kids to do out in the garden. The Twister game is always popular indoors and is a great ice-breaker. The kids were soon screaming with laughter and falling all over each other. They also used it firstly as a picnic mat and then finally poured water on it and used it as a slide (not my idea). A great idea for the summer.

Used for a scouting event It was fantastic and washes easily. A good purchase. :-))))))"So there you go - far too much fun to be had by far too many people.

Happy getting knotted!

Garden Basketball Set £9.96 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 14 June, 2012 at 10:00 am

Garden Basketball Set £9.96 @ TescoTesco are selling this garden basketball set for £9.96 - a bit of a bargain for something that comes with a fair number of benefits, I think!

For YEARS, my laundry basket perched up on top of the TV cabinet was a basketball hoop before I bought a proper one for the kids when they were small.

It was effective for indoor basketball but not so useful when they wanted to shoot hoops outside in the sunshine during the summer.

This little garden basketball set from Tesco is freestanding, height adjustable and comes with a backboard for bouncing the ball off, a small basketball and a pump to keep it nicely pumped up with.

It's suitable for little ones aged between five and eight-years-old, although I'm sure the recommended age police aren't going to come banging on your door if you let a younger child play with it!

The benefits I eluded to earlier?  Well, getting out to play in the garden (fresh air and stocking up on a bit of Vitamin D - don't forget sunscreen if the sun has made a welcome return) and the development of hand-eye coordination; marvellous.

Kickmaster Football Training Kit £10 @ Duncan's Toy Chest

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 May, 2012 at 9:00 am

Kickmaster Football Training Kit £10 @ Duncan's Toy ChestDuncan's Toy Chest (never heard of them before;  I had a boyfriend called Duncan once, but that's a whole other story!) are selling this rather nifty looking football training kit in a backpack for £10, rather than £14.99.

My youngest son has been going to football practice at the local football club, on Saturday mornings, for quite a while now and he was THRILLED beyond belief the other day to be told he'd been selected for the Under 7s team next season.

As you can imagine football training is now a very serious business, and now the summer has arrived (did you like how it seemed to rock up overnight!) lots of practice can be had at the little pocket park that's just a few paces away from home.

There are goal posts already there but sticks or tupperware tubs, stolen from the kitchen, are a bit naff as dribbling markers - so I'm going to buy him this football training kit backpack.  It's comes with four dribbling marker thingys (I have no idea what they're proper name is), a bright yellow Kickmaster football, a set of shin pads and a water bottle.

Delivery with Duncan's Toy Chest is free (hurrah!) so all you're going to pay for this football training kit is £10.

6ft Football Goal For The Garden £7.47 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 May, 2012 at 12:00 pm

6ft Football Goal For The Garden £7.47 @ TescoTesco Direct are selling this 6ft football goal for the garden for £7.47 rather than its full price of £14.94.

The only 'person' who plays football in my garden in Lucy the Lurcher dog, her goalkeeping skills are rather awesome so the bushes don't take too much of a hammering.

If, however, your flowerbeds, shrubs and bushes are doubling up as 'back of the net' for your little ones epic garden football matches, then you might just want to give Tescos £7.47 of your hard earned cash and pick up one of these garden football goals.

This 6ft metal football goal will transform your garden into their favourite premiership team's stadium (well, in your child's eyes it will) and earn you a stack of parental brownie points too; all you need after that is for the rain to stop so they can actually get out into the garden and shoot balls at it!

You can arrange to collect your football goal for free in-store or pay £3 for standard delivery.

28-Piece Giant Dominoes Set £9.99 @ Dealtastic

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 4 August, 2011 at 9:00 am

28-Piece Giant Dominoes Set £9.99 @ Dealtastic

This fun 28 piece giant domino set is reduced from £17.51 to £9.99 at Dealtastic. Shipping is another £1.99, bringing the total to £11.98.

I worked for a company once who planned a ‘summer ball and family fun day’ one summer. The ball was great, but the family fun day was superb! There were giant games all around the gardens they’d hired for the day, and things to keep families busy all day long. It was a wonderful day out, even though we didn’t have children at the time, and his giant domino set reminded me of it.

These dominoes are made of weatherproof foam, and each domino is 18cm long, 10cm wide, and 2cm thick, so while they look like two-hand tiles in the image, they’re not really that big, but still a lot bigger than your standard size. They also come in a box with a carry handle.

As the blurb on the website says, these are ideal for garden parties, BBQ’s or even Summer Drinking Games.

Word of warning though – at this price, don’t expect the world’s best domino quality!

Chad Valley Wooden Cricket Set £2.49 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 July, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Chad Valley Wooden Cricket Set £2.49 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Chad Valley wooden cricket set, for kids, for £2.49 instead of £4.95.

Aside from motorsport, I'm also a rather huge fan of rugby and cricket.

I'm very much looking forward to the Rugby World Cup which kicks off in a couple of months time, and I was recently glued to the TV following my team (the Deccan Chargers) in the Indian Premier Leavgue 20/20 series.

Cricket is such a great game - when matches come right down to the wire the tension is almost deadly - and evoke feelings of long, warm summer days with picnics and large glasses of cool Pimms and lemonade.

Well that's what happens in the little village I live in anyway.

This Chad Valley cricket set has a wooden bat, four wicket stumps and a bail (that's the bit that sits on top of the stumps) and a tennis ball all neatly packaged in its own bag.

It's a shame there aren't two bats because then you could REALLY have a game of cricket in your garden, and what do you do if you have three children who want to play?

Anyway, it's suitable for kids aged between three and five years old and it's available for home delivery and in-store collection, although for an extra £5.95 why on earth would you have it delivered?

Water Bombs AWAAAY!!

by Sarah Macdonald in Misc on 18 July, 2010 at 11:00 am

Water Bombs AWAAAY!!For the last few Sundays I've been bemoaning the fact that so far this summer we've had the irritating two-or-three-days-hot-sunny-weather followed by five-or-six-days-of-chilly-cloudy-weather!

Last Monday was the last decent day we had in my part of the world, my youngest will start suffering from cabin fever before too long.

However, the lovely people at the Met' Office are saying that the 'heatwave' - used in the loosest possible way, of course, as it probably only describes one day! -  is set to return next week; HURRAH! just in time for the summer holidays!

Keeping kids amused for six weeks has the potential to become very expensive, but at least when the weather's nice they can play outside in the garden and this usually means one thing  (well two things actually): sunscreen and WATER!

Playing in the garden with water in the sunshine go together like strawberrys and cream, or Pimms and lemonade when the kids have gone to bed!

But it can turn into a bit of a soggy garden-bog fest' if there isnt' some structure to it. I came across this list of fun garden water games to play with your kids this morning and already have a couple of favourites that sound awesome!

'Water Volley Ball' and 'Don't Be A Drip' are guaranteed to induce squeals of delight and have a 'mild peril' element to them too to get the adrenalin racing!

For water volley ball you just need a marker for the 'net' if you don't have one, two towels, a supply of water balloons and four players. Place the balloon in the middle of a towl and toss it over the net to the other team who have to catch it and then return it over the net.  If the opposite team don't catch the balloon and it explodes on the ground - you SCORE!

Dont' be a drip - make a little hole in a balloon (it doesn't have to a be a water balloon), fill it with water and tie a knot in the end (obviously). The aim of this game is to play catch with it and NOT be the person holding it when all the water has gone. SO simple but can you imagine the hilarity and frantic chucking of the balloon the closer it gets to being empty!

Water balloons are dead cheap - I found these over at Amazon (144 of them for £2.87) but Tesco, Asda et al are bound to do them too.  I think these garden games sound like a lot of fun and hope they  save you from a few of those 'I'm bored' summer holiday moments!

If you've got any great summer garden game ideas, drop us a line and let us know about them.
